and Thomas Jefferson died, the second and third presidents of the United Sates, mere hours apart.
Both men had been central in the drafting of the historical document.

And as he lay dying, Adams bemoaned the fact that his rival Jefferson outlived him. H did not know that Jefferson had just died before him.

I love 'This Day In History,' from many sources. My favorite though is Tara Ross. She's a retired attorney and fairly conservative, though I don't know her politics. She's strongly in favor of the Electoral College and has written books, including one for children, on that topic.

On her regular blog you can also find, 'Medal of Honor Mondays.' Pretty cool stuff.

    Default Uncle Sam

On 07 Sep 1813, the United States gets its nickname, Uncle Sam, when
a newspaper picks up the story of Samuel Wilson, a meat packer who supplied
barrels of beef to the United States Army. Wilson stamped the barrels with "U.S."
for United States, but soldiers began referring the grub to "Uncle Sam's".

I wish that history would tell us that on this day in time, today, President Trump declared California a Federal Disaster Area and sent in the National Guard to clean up the state and throw out the treasonous trash running it and all the illegal aliens.
