Default Generate your own energy For 90% less

Natural Gas is not cheap around here, so usage and price, will have to be determined, but looks promising.

The system can run at an 80% efficiency when used to provide both heat and powe
That certainly can't hurt the overall efficiency of our national power grid. They mentioned a cost of 90% less but 10% of what?

Quick browse of the article says 90% cheaper to buy this fuel cell than other fuel cells. Says you'll wind up paying about the same price for electricity overall. There is an advantage in that the system is uninterruptable, so no more power outages. The 80% efficiency achieved through using it's heat and electricity produced makes this a better idea for northern climates.

Yes, but 90% cheaper than what? Hopefully they won't have the problem that solar has with high initial costs and insanely long payback periods. They mentioned it was responsive but can it handle the high initial surge of an AC compressor kicking on? Anyway, lots of questions but it's good to see the march of technology continuing. We fortunately don't have a problem with power outages but I know many areas do and this makes the problems of off-grid living easier to bear.

I'd gladly pay $2000 for a 1 or 2 KW system to use as a back-up power source where I have propane available. The alternative is a piston-powered propane engine running a mechanical generator. This is a pretty common market, by the way, where folks have a large propane tank on-site (or natural gas piped in from the utility) to run their heating, stove, hot water, gas fireplace, etc.

10% of the cost of existing commercial fuel cells.

un-interruptable... unless the flow of natural gas to your home is cut off.
