    When the storm is raging
    And my hope is gone
    When my flesh is failing
    You're still holding on...

    When the storm is raging
    And my hope is gone

A truly great artist and a great song.
My favorite is his song- ""Tennessee Whiskey""....
Such magnificent lyrics , amplified by that magnificent singing voice he has.
I just presented a youtube video of the song in the music thread here below - What are you listening to?
So much of that song was a part of my life, my wild youth. --Tyr

True Love Can Only Come From True And Sincere Heart

He cried, lord grant me one kiss,
Tis her lips I so dearly miss,
dark curls set her beauty apart
my angel that has won this heart
I that such treasure deserve not
my love she has forever got
    no other sweetheart can compare
she of blue eyes and raven hair.
A soft answer came back as this,
Truth is, you - she so dearly miss.

She cried, God bless our new life,
I pray, only to be his wife
    his touch, a sensual treasure
our nights to be sweetest treasure
I ask for such true wedded bliss
    he gifts eternity each kiss
    please bless our future together
with faith, to life's bad times weather.
A soft answer came back as this,
Love shall bring you, his lips to kiss.

As all was said, down came the word,
Your sincere pleas and faith was heard
you both, loving true, will be wed
blessed will be your marriage bed
treasure will be born of deep love
    future blessings sent from above
such be written, such shall be done
you will have what your love has spun.
A last reply then to them came,
Light comes, as one honors my name.

With about a dozen edits, decided this was a finished piece. So presented it. Now perhaps she may see I can write other than dark verse. Although with me- dark verse- is indeed a dear passion. And to me represents that which is the other side of the coin in this world that we -all- know has so very much darkness in it.. A fact, that poetry's ever so very rich history- so clearly and magnificently reveals to those that look..

This was born this morn because my wife read my new blog on the master Poet, Edgar Allan Poe. She then asked me why do your write about so much dark? Can you not write about positive things- perhaps about love? I replied yes I can. She replied, well then show me a good new romantic poem if you can and I mean today before I come home from work.

CONTINUED-- A challenge to me is a challenge to be honored. So I read about 5 dozen sonnets, many of which were composed by great poets here....... Then I read a few more by Byron, and by Shakespeare as well. Grabbed a pen and inked this first onto paper. Then into my digital note.

Hell, It Aint No Fad, But Best I Forget It

I want it so bad but I just can't get it
Hell, it aint no fad, but best I forget it

Life is just a broken heart disease
And not golden treasure that please
But that calm after the damn storm
And in my prayers I pray you no harm
Tis my dying soul they want to seize
And lost spirit in this earthen form
O' tis darkness, the evil in terra form

I want it so bad but I just can't get it
Hell, it aint no fad, but best I forget it

Love is the harvest but mine is absent
A hero's sword is straight but mine is bent
It is a moonlit night and I'm a'cryin
I've lost my true sight, I am a'dyin
Comes that calm after the damn storm
And in my prayers I pray you no harm
I beg forgiveness for all of my lyin'

I want it bad but I just can't get it
Hell, it aint no fad, but best I forget it

Verses From The Remnants Of Broken Chains, A Short Series

Verses From The Remnants Of Broken Chains

There, vigilant bronze feeds the steeds of war
Within long silent shadows, there you are
Lost child, sired from Prometheus unbound
Promise of a golden harvest not found.

    R.J. Lindley , Nov. 12th 1981

Wisdom From The Remnants Of Broken Chains

Attitudes and platitudes- hold that thought
Sad child, in your wicked lies you are caught
Crimson tinges sets the flower apart
Far too late after the last ship departs.

    R.J. Lindley , Nov. 15th 1981

Justice From The Remnants Of Broken Chains

You smiled licking your frosty callous thumb
Felt injustice, when struck both deaf and dumb
Laughed out loud as you rode your horse to death
Cursing that gift under your angry breath.

The Bloodstone, The Raven And Master Poe,
    Part Three of Three

There came hammer knocking on the back door
As Poe was acting out pitiful moans
Raven thought, could this be from Hell's dark shore
    Another beast hearing anguishing groans
Then a sweet young voice, from a mortal man
Asking entry from his friend Master Poe
Raven mused, more fish for frying pan
Tonight shall be a most delightful show!

Poe look startled but said, "enter young lord"
I was merely rehearsing for a play
Pray tell me what news for I am bored
And this has been a truly dreadful day
Young Luke crossed the room and bowed low
Rising gave Poe the dagger as a gift
Asking, Master Poe why this strange request
And your odd message, bring it and be swift.

Poe took the weapon with a sad, sad look
In a wailing voice said- "this is my Fate"
As he did so his entire body shook
He in soft voice moaned, you are not too late
Young Luke was startled and a bit confused
Have you such sorrows as to death invite
Asking, for this you would not have used
A dear friend, to bring this sharp blade tonight!

No sooner said, than Raven cried, "no not yet"
Poe you must not, I need far more than this
Too soon, dark master and I have a bet
And next blood moon is to be your death kiss
Poe and Luke pretended to not such hear
As Luke moved and blocked Raven's view
Raven almost exploded from the fear
When Luke that loud cry gave, Raven then knew!

Alas! Raven thought such must never be
This calamity that has foiled my plan
Was never what Fate and I did agree
Not for this hideous and loathsome man
Fate, have you our agreement now went back on
Did not our sworn oath -we in hot-blood swear
And both splash our venom on the bloodstone
This, after my accursed soul I bare!

As Luke stepped back, there Poe in blood lay
That dagger to the hilt stick in his chest
Luke fell to his knees, God forgive I pray
May our brother Poe now have peaceful rest
Raven beside itself, at thus being cheated
Cursed sky, cursed even louder Fate
As Luke into far corner retreated
Raven came forward to eat from that plate.

As Raven neared, his invisible cloak fell
Approaching were Master Poe had died
And from distant hill the midnight church bell
Rang in tune with those tears Raven cried
Leaning closer to whisper in Poe's ear
    Raven over dead master hovered
Saying, this fresh blood my soul now so cheers
I shall taste it and my face now smother!

With its ghastly black tongue it licked
As it got that first bloody red-ink taste
Would know it had been cleverly tricked
Poe acted swiftly, with no time to waste
The dagger plunged into Raven's chest
Raven felt its razor sharp silver blade
Poe said, I send thee to your hellish nest
And to the death that your evil hath made!

Then Raven vanished into thin air
Room suddenly lit up with golden light
A glowing angel then appeared there
Allowing Poe and Luke to see its sight
With a joyful shout it sang right on out
You shall both be truly, deeply blessed
And with deep pride walk this world all about
Raven now this failure has confessed.

Luke spoke first, saying but Raven is dead
How can it, such confession ever speak
Poe, did you hear what this angel has said
Raven can again into our world sneak
Poe addressed the angel, is this true
That foul beast can innocent souls aggrieve
Did it not receive the death it was due
Or has Fate- Luke and I now so deceived?

Angel replied, that was Raven's first death
Evil beast has six more deaths to endure
Before that savage thing takes its last breath
Earth not see it's like, of that I assure
Poe said, of this night I shall set in verse
We must ever be on guard and alert
And remember this beast is a dark curse
That lives to get revenge and mankind hurt!

The Bloodstone, The Raven And Master Poe
    Part Three of Three

    Note:
    Presented as composed- unedited

    Note_
Total of three parts, composed in a total of 200
rhyming verses....This is part three- the conclusion.
A dark tale, in rhyme and with the epic struggle
    between Raven and Master Poe.
Raven with yet more six more lives to infest earth
and thus plague Poe and whomever it chooses.
I myself have heard the late night knocking but
but laughed it off and set mousetraps -knowing
that disbelief is a stout shield…. Admitting that
such is a reality may bring in an unwanted guest….

Verses From The Remnants Of Broken Chains,
    Series Conclusion

    **********

Soft Cries From The Remnants Of Broken Chains

I 've broken the deep silence that is profound
Slept amidst low cracklings of dying leaves
Lent my heart, sold it pennies on the pound
But, tis agony of your loss that grieves.

    *****

Mere Shreds From The Remnants Of Broken Chains

You begged to rest on this rocky ground
Lying just beneath that cold chamber door
Midnight pains hardly made a frantic sound
Yet pride lost whilst making pitiful score.

    R.J. Lindley , Nov. 26th 1981
    Quatrain

    *****

Voided From The Remnants Of Broken Chains

You limp on your bitter, frost-bitten foot
And I, my dying soul cry all the more
There in that love-torn basket love was put
You left seeking gems on another shore.

Whispers From The Remnants Of Broken Chains

In fresh twilight, loving whispers float free
Life echoed young call to remember love
Hope rested under its usual shade tree
Massive cold raindrops fell from far above.

Waking From The Remnants Of Broken Chains

There waits truth, far beyond the shoreless sea
Waves lashing and bright bold thunder crashing
In world, where life was a magical tree
With all the lakes and mighty fish splashing.

Once I Thought This Of Magic Poetry

Once I thought this of magic poetry
All was there as a most wonderful sea
So foolish, that was me forgetting this
Tis not that simple to enjoy such bliss
For great verses are born by ink and pen
Alas! These must come from souls of mere men
Mortals that are of weaken flesh and blood
Some that live, to drag others through the mud!

Once I thought life wonderful poetry
Forever a treasure and part of me
So foolish, such as that so naively think
And in that sweet dream, forget to ever blink!

But this world is dark and full of hard knocks.
Although sad blues reign, poetry still rocks!

One Whose Devilish Heart Comes From The Fridge.

Why did I write, " I do truly love her"
Carve love lost hope into innocent bark
She that had called me a surly cur
An insult that left a deep hidden mark.

What folly, a black curse that never ends.
O the sheer agony of, "lets' be friends".

    This love-storm, its endless revolutions
Far worse than a tempest and a hanging
From dark depths of mankind's evolution
The hard invisible blows still clanging.

What folly, a black curse that never ends.
O the sheer agony of, "lets' be friends".

    Insanity- to love so futilely
Live in past dreams - under a falling bridge
    Follow along, so damn dutifully
One whose devilish heart comes from the fridge.

What folly, a black curse that never ends.
O the sheer agony of, "lets' be friends".

At Home, Resting After A Sweet Morning Trek

    Cool and sweet
    Laced with gentle streams
    The treasure of forested hills
    Forest sighs, and afternoon delight
    'neath welcoming sky.

    Souls they touch
    Hearts they enthrall
    Day or night
    Embrace this spirit
    Soothe with that colorful treasure
O giant that awaits the dawn
    Welcome this eager friend.

Remembering-that which was precious and lost
both youth and the time spent with my beloved dad
when a child I saw the beauty of gleaming frost
that revelation made this soul happy and glad.....8-07-2021

Default A Tribute To An Old Man
I have labored on writing this tribute poem for about 9 weeks now. Leaving it, coming back, making changes.
Always trying to improve it, as nothing seemed good enough.
Then I finally saw the light, my father tho' extremely intelligent was still a simple man.
One that believed good triumphs over evil, that people are only human and thus they should not be judged against a perfection yardstick.
For weeks I sought perfection to honor him, one I so dearly love.
Then he seemed to say to me this morn-- " son, when love is true it is already perfection, regardless of how its presented."
With that in mind, I finished this poem today. And hope you may enjoy it and think beautiful and loving thoughts/memories of your
own father, be he now living or passed on as is mine..-Tyr

    Just An Old Man

Just an old man I came to know
his mind still busy, feet were slow.
Tired feet lounged in old, worn shoes
he had lived, lived and paid his dues!

An old man, one I always loved
one who taught me to fight when shoved.
Showed me to be kind when one could
how to work hard and saw firewood!

An old man, long ago I knew
taught me to say, yes sir on cue.
Suffered to give more than he had
to raise good sons, not to be bad!

An old man, one God took away
taught me true love and how to pray.
Gave his kind heart and gave his all
to teach me to stand proud and tall!

An old man, that never forgot
to aid me, were I on the spot
Old man that gave, not being asked
in that bright light, this soul once basked!

Just an old man, so brave and true
wore the old, to buy me the new.
An old man, one I so cherish
I pray to meet, when I perish!

An old man, one I hope to see
that good son, he raised me to be.
Just an old man, one that loved me
pray I, to one day be as he!

The Banquet At Cajamarca, Atahualpa, Peru

Darkness reigned that day, its blades slashing
Blood flowed its red, death its might flashing
The holy enlightened, in their feasting elan'
Frenzied with greed murdered again and again
    Massacre - born, demon-fed influence
Wherein greed met a savage confluence
No doubt that somewhere there was gleaming gold
And for that armored saviors, their souls sold!

Light and history records that foul deed
More the pity that they had massive greed
Kind that fears not, shedding innocent blood
And upon heathen ground cast a red flood
Dare one ask, where light, love and mercy fled
As that day even the stones flowed with red
No price too steep to reap golden treasure
Did it to such heroes it give pleasure!

In this savage world such was forgotten
No blame laid on those so truly rotten
Men of prowess, deepest faith and true hearts
Darkness of which greed's hands so oft imparts
They that murdered for gold and power
While feasting in their false golden towers
Shall not God's true judgment ever evade
For true justice demands a price be paid!

Darkness reigned that day, its blades slashing
Blood flowed its red, death its might flashing
The holy enlightened, in their feasting elan'
Frenzied with greed murdered again and again!

November 16, 1532 Cajamarca, Atahualpa, Peru Cajamarca massacre ~2,000

The Battle of Cajamarca was the unexpected ambush and seizure of the Inca ruler Atahualpa by a small Spanish force led by Francisco Pizarro, on November 16, 1532. The Spanish killed thousands of Atahualpa's counsellors, commanders and unarmed attendants in the great plaza of Cajamarca, and caused his armed host outside the town to flee. The capture of Atahualpa marked the opening stage of the conquest of the pre-Columbian Inca civilization of Peru.

Back In The Autumn Of '73

    Born from memory distant scene
    rooster crowed, then peacock's preen
set the stage for a summer trek
hope alive, but barely a speck
as life its great mysteries hid
auction on, I made my first bid.

    Discovery was the youthful aim
life was then thought to be a game
yet world had far different plans
educate with pain this blind man
and that by way of a love lost
born when flowers fear the first frost.

What was sent was taken away.
Deep agony lives 'til this day.

Of Night Ascendant, Soft Capricious Moon

Of night ascendant, soft capricious moon,
In life and loving- may we never part,
Nor dance to any disappointing tunes
Whilst we fly together as two brave hearts.

Traversing immanent course with our God
Through appalling world, may we safely trod.

Throughout life, we our flowering seeds sow
Rising to dawn's call, its majestic glows.

Daring to deny world's dark temptations
    Live true, within Light's illuminations.

Of night ascendant, soft capricious moon,
In life and loving- may we never part,
Nor dance to any disappointing tunes
Whilst we fly together as two brave hearts.

As We Stroll Along Lanes Of Truth, Lies Or Convenient Illusions

But if truth and light grace your soul
And a wisdom shields heart and mind,
You may in life hope for the best
As we stroll along lanes of truth, lies or convenient illusions
And either we come to know or not know
That to this dark world- we are less than nothing.
O truth! Does life and love gift all we need
As that gaze from stars crying while looking down
We then, that are not born of eternal seeds
Wade through this ever changing realm
Mired in the darkness which patiently lies, waiting within!

In love we think we are flowers blooming forever
    In gardens devoid of decay
    Yet invisible beyond that veil
Are powers that seethe in anger
Things that seek to destroy, and eat us alive.
Such foreboding exists, as does ground beneath bare and roaming feet
Although in blindness we see only with limited sight we have
Prone to seek peace, love and beauty,
We conjure up fantasies and dreams
Illusions that quell our deep and internal fears!

Ah, gone are days of the magical gods
They which could be insured to take the blame
Those that set us into perils, into savage wars
In our ignorance we saw- the gods played and wreaked havoc
As we, heaped upon this world mysterious gifts of darkness
And paraded forth as if living was a mere game
A thing which we mastered, a monster we truly controlled.

And in that deception we saw imagined gods that we had conquered
And we imagined the Gods that we had become-through our magnificent being!
