Redbone, A Mighty Blow Given Night That You Died

He a mighty dog, grandpa just called him Redbone
As big as a hog, he weighed in over six stone.
Part black bear and part mutt, his growl scared one and all
Hellfire in his gut, Pap would bear hunt him each Fall.

Redbone, a mighty blow given night that you died.
One young lad, went out into the dark woods and cried.

As a pup Redbone was as beauty to behold
Such as never before loved by a six year old.
Soon red coat shining, he became muscle and bone
That is why our Ole Pap came to name him Redbone.

Redbone, a mighty blow given night that you died.
One young lad, went out into the dark woods and cried.

Eight years flew on by and Redbone was loved by all
Eigth season he was slower to come when we call.
Ole Pap call for first morn's hunt and heard not a bark
Redbone only growled showing his teeth like a shark.

Redbone, a mighty blow given night that you died
One young lad, went out into the dark woods and cried.

Ole Pap shot back, last bear hunt tore you up a bit
Then his chew of tobacco, oft front porch he spit.
Redbone just lay there, Ole Pap said, old friend just rest
You have been a fine hunting dog, the very best.

Redbone, a mighty blow given night that you died.
One young lad, went out into the dark woods and cried.

Next night midnight moon rose, we heard a moaning yelp
Our old faithful friend, our Redbone's last call for help.
Ole Pap went out, came back in with sad ashen face
He said, Redbone is gone, friend we can not replace.

Redbone, a mighty blow given night that you died.
One young lad, went out into the dark woods and cried.
