    Beauty So Dearly Missed

    small lake, calm waters

    I decided to write a Haiku this morning and this memory popped into my head after reading ABOUT JIM AND NIGHTTRAIN'S ADVENTURES IN THE GREAT NORTHERN ICE WILDERNESS.
    I am no fan of the cold , so sunshine popped into my head and this memory from back in 1979.
    Some credit goes to Jim And NightTrain -- FOR THIS CREATION AS READING ABOUT THEIR RECENT GET TOGETHER CAUSED ME TO THINK OF A GET TOGETHER I HAD BACK IN 1979,ALMOST FORTY YEARS AGO.--TYR

    What The Farmer Truly Lives For

    I
    Across the low hills misty meadows glow,
    devilishly hiding gleaming rainbows.
    Today earth shines true as yawning dawn wakes,
    as from nights cold, Nature gives it quick shakes
    releasing powers, from its nighttime breaks.

    II
    From his feather bed and cozy farm home
    he rises, work to do no time to roam.
    As coffee percolates, plans each hour,
    jumping into morn's steaming hot shower
    thankful God gave him life and this power!

    III
    In begging fields he works to life uplift
    with mind, muscle and brawn a blessed gift.
    Ever mindful of duty, its high cost,
    great sacrifices, harvests he lost
    due to Nature's wrath and its killing frosts.

    IV
    As sun sets, he looks up at the blue skies
    thanks his Lord for all, with tears in his eyes.
    To home and hearth, those he truly lives for,
    again giving thanks, asking for no more
    he knows life is love,and Heaven keeps score!

    V
    Across the low hills misty meadows glow,
    devilishly hiding gleaming rainbows.
    Today earth shines true as yawning dawn wakes,
    as from nights cold, Nature gives it quick shakes
    releasing powers, from its nighttime breaks.

    Note- ANOTHER OLD POEM , FROM MY PRIVATE JOURNAL.
    Written back when I was a young nineteen year old, remembering my father, his death four years prior and wondering would the deep heartache ever stop.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Simple Man, Just Striving To Have A Simple Soul
    There was no great air of mystery about him
    tho' kind, too much of his life had been sad and grim.
    Truth, he would rather take a beating than tell lies
    seeing others in hurt brought tears to his blue eyes.
    In his gentle life he sought love and common sense
    about his past he spoke with no storied pretense.
    Upon waking and giving thanks for each new dawn
    he sat on his porch, admiring green of his lawn.
    Simple man just striving to have a simple soul
    live life in peace, love his family was his goal.
    Tho' life once led him down a very darkened path
    he wore no hatred and displayed no burning wrath.
    I felt his great strength, his kindness bore into me
    I sprang from strong, blessed roots, his genetic tree.
    Now he has journeyed on to his blessed reward
    I have faced this world alone, its been very hard.
    On blessed nights he appears to me in my dreams
    oft telling me to walk besides cool mountain streams.
    Then when things get too hot, step in cool aching feet
    Find wisdom to not just foolishness dare repeat.
    Have you guessed, this true friend, was my beloved dad
    loved me with all his heart even when he was mad.
    This my humble tribute, inked in poetic words
    he taught life, love, beauty of dawn's sweet singing birds.
    How He Once Fought Under Light Of The Full Moon
    Brightest full moon nights, he climbed the high ridge to shout
    Darkness abated, enough light to see the path.
    In waving glow, shouted curses to spit it out
    Challenging demons waging his lost lover's wrath.
    Had he not fled, into deepest and darkest woods
    With broken sword, split shield and sad, torn heart as well.
    Yet without fail, soon came shadows wearing black hoods
    Bringing her dark poison arrows shot straight from hell.
    O' that her heart had not itself been very black
    Love could have overcame her other wicked deeds.
    Those traps she set, deep pits along the hidden track
    Memories of her slashing until his heart bleeds.
    At a stalemate, in his battle with hooded foes
    With his last ounce of courage, he bravely fought on.
    As his gleaming light of defiance grows and grows
    Nature hears and sees such his true character shown.
    Then with last defensive punch Nature's help he sought
    Rushing in to rescue him came the grey wolf pack.
    With howls of victory, that Nature's friends had brought
    He knelt and there prayed to get his life back on track.
    Tired Heart, Old Soul, Sad Spirit And A Hopeful Light
    Tired Heart said to rest, but muse cried," you must write on
    forget your worries, fire up your angry tone".
    Ah, but my soul cried, "listen not to the mad muse,
    poetry is a gift one you must not misuse".
    Old Soul was awakened by this rip-roaring den
    bellowed out," remember I am thy only friend".
    Hold on cried intellect, "do not this brain abuse
    for I control his words and tis I that will choose".
    Sad Spirit then spoke words that gave revelation,
    "remind thy muse poetry is thy salvation.
    And tell biased Old Soul, Tired Heart has many friends
    that follow in thy journey around hidden bends".
    Then Tired heart spoke again said, '' to me be thee true,
    for our joining that holds together all of you.
    Go rest under shade tree and dreaming thy best dreams
    for Heart has your back and Hopeful Light fills thy beams".
    When Thirsty Earth Begged Its Brother Sky
    When Thirsty Earth Begged Its Brother Sky
    When thirsty Earth cries, for much needed rain
    Sky beams ever brighter, said not again
    Why cry thus to me, ask your mortal men,
    they steal your bounty and live in dark sin?
    Earth heard and let out more desperate moans
    Sky rumbled back, no rain in clear tones.
    Earth begged oceans and forests to plead
    please ask brother Sky to fill our great need.
    Again Sky answered with angrier sounds
    told Earth, stop men from going out of bounds
    Earth moaned louder and then pleaded some more
    asking Sky, some rain please, this I implore.
    Later Earth and brother Sky came to terms
    rains came so heavy it woke sleeping worms!
    Tribute poem, written this morn..-Tyr
    Hold Not A Sad Vigil For Me
    Hold not a sad vigil for me
    Born of flesh and blood, once was free
    Where my soul went, a better place
    I ran Life's mysterious race.
    Now having taken my last breath
    Spirit passed through, cold hands of death
    Beg, when I am laid in cold grounds
    Earth hears no heartfelt weeping sounds.
    In Life's gift, I came to this world
    To another realm, soul is hurled
    There exists, no more evil lies
    Only Light, Sun and gleaming Skies.
    Once settled, saying prayers for you
    Those that I love, evil ones too
    This final message, truth stands clear
    I enter smiling, with no fear.
    Do not stand at my grave and weep* (1)
    Instead pray my soul, the Lord keeps
    My grave, merely a marking place
    To delay what Time will erase.
    Hold not a sad vigil for me
    Born flesh and blood, once I was free
    Where my soul went, a better place
    I ran Life's mysterious race.
    Two Old Red Tractors, Both Are Broken Down
    Two old red tractors, both are broken down
    on a small dusty farm, outskirts of town.
    Dawn comes early, no time to sleep in bed
    rooster crows call out, work, work, work instead!
    Dad rose early, I hear a tractor start
    shows me his ethics, I must take to heart.
    I rise to eat, coffee, bacon and eggs
    we work hard to live, here nobody begs!
    This farm, it damn sure does not run itself
    nor just give us food, on the pantry shelf.
    Meeting morn's brisk air, I wake even more
    I start work, seems a never ending chore!
    Sun setting, more work still needs to be done
    suppertime, tomorrow we have more fun!
    Robert J. Lindley, 5-04-2018
    Sonnet, ( Farm work, seems to never all get done)
    Truth, Evil Exists And Not All Men Pray
    Ah yes, sad that hell never froze over,
    all is not Nature's beauty and clover.
    We fallen creatures, yes we have our way
    truth, evil exists and not all men pray.
    Ah yes, we cry our faults are not so bad
    and bad ones always dwell in other lads.
    We fallen creatures, yes we have our way
    truth, evil exists and not all men pray.
    Ah yes, sins we try to bury with lies,
    or try to wash away with our false cries.
    We fallen creatures, yes we have our way
    truth, evil exists and not all men pray.
    Ah yes, glowing dawns come and then they go
    and we walk in blindness, saying we know.
    We fallen creatures, yes we have our way
    truth, evil exists and not all men pray.
    Ah yes, this rightly condemns you and I,
    as just rewards come in the by and by.
    We fallen creatures, yes we have our way
    truth, evil exists and not all men pray.
    Ah yes, night gives not the cover we think
    and our lives can fly away in a blink.
    We fallen creatures, yes we have our way
    truth, evil exists and not all men pray.
    Ah yes, sad truth- no man is an island,
    tho' we each one have been marked with a brand.
    We fallen creatures, yes we have our way
    truth, evil exists and not all men pray.
    Ah yes, we will face the music tis' true
    and no foolish lies will serve me or you.
    We fallen creatures, yes we have our way
    truth, evil exists and not all men pray.
    That Darkest Day, The Death Of Her Midnight
    She cried out profusely, please do not die,
    only last week, you my love, ran so well.
    He was down, so pitiful where he lie
    mangled in that blood soaked road where he fell.
    Her tears fell and rising sun paled so quick.
    Then she noticed his black hair was so thick.
    Midnight moved, looked as if to implore,
    yet that brief spell of hope ran away too fast.
    She thought why had she not seen before,
    that very moment, Midnight breathed his last.
    Her tears fell and rising sun paled so quick.
    Then she noticed his black hair was so thick.
    She reached out, to touch his fast fleeing ghost
    its image stood there and then flew away.
    Never another, she loved him the most
    thoughts of nights they walked beach sands in the bay.
    Her tears fell and rising sun paled so quick.
    Then she noticed his black hair was so thick.
    Stranger stopped and asked, Miss, was that your dog,
    she had not the strength to give a reply.
    Her world was dark and her head in a fog
    all she said was, why did he have to die.
    Her tears fell and rising sun paled so quick.
    Then she noticed his black hair was so thick.
    Note. Midnight she called her beloved dog, her companion for twelve wonderful years. He was hit by a car that tragic day and she has ever had another to replace that which to her was irreplaceable.
    There Was A Gigantic Tree There, Gnarly And Old
    ( Part One )
    There was a gigantic tree there, gnarly and old.
    I just had to stare, tho' wind was soon icy cold.
    Looking up, its roof hiding beyond human sight,
    Then the wind blew cold and something just wasn't right!
    Frozen, I stood rooted, my legs refused to walk
    Next an owl hooted and I understood its talk!
    Shivers shooting up my spine, fearing brain cried out,
    Who are you, what do you want I said in a shout.
    Voice cried, I am fallen, buried under this tree.
    Now best you turn about, no longer walk on me!
    With heart racing fast, sweat popping from every pore,
    My soul rose at last, demanded I speed to safe shore!
    Voice spoke bolder then, leave or else accept this curse
    No hero of men, I thought how could this get worse?
    Malevolent thing rose, suddenly bursting forth,
    Yelled leave, do so now and pointed towards the north!
    Yet there lay a swamp pit known to be very bad
    Alas! In the worse of it, my life to be had!
    Then it came, my shaking voice spoke, leave me alone
    No more of this, even if you are buried bones!
    Wind roared forth, crashing around, shook me and the ground
    Words came with evil sound, leave or else be thee bound
    Wickedness, no more could I stand, I fell to pray
    Faithful words that allows me to be here today!
    There was a gigantic tree there, gnarly and old.
    I just had to stare, tho' wind was soon icy cold.
    Looking up, its roof hiding beyond human sight,
    Then the wind blew cold and something just wasn't right!
    Note-
    Searched for it but can not find a Part Two. Either it was never written or else lost over these many decades.
    I supposed that I could perhaps, decide to write the second part now but I just can not see doing so at the moment.
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Seems a large box of my old poems has went missing since last Spring's clean up at our new home here .
    I know I never tossed it to be burnt or put in the garbage, but Riza and Justin both swear that they did not do so...
    I can not replace poems written over forty years ago, back when I was so young and really inspired with a totally different view of life and this world.
    Mostly likely another couple hundred of old poems now forever lost. --Tyr
    Magnificent Path Lit By Moonlight Dreams
    On a different road taken this day,
    Magnificent path lit by moonlight dreams;
    Wherein hope's promises hold greatest sway,
    Defeating wicked world's usual schemes.
    There rests, golden paradise most oft sought,
    Beckons with deepest echoes of blessings;
    Tho' with great sacrifice such wonders bought,
    Tis filled with love's passionate caressing.
    Blessed it be, if found in youthful years,
    When greater strength and vigor reign so strong;
    Although life may still curse you, send its tears
    Fear not, more joyful days will come along.
    Know Time will fly, have its destructive way,
    Eating its fill of heart, our flesh and bone;
    Coloring dire moments, with darkest grey,
    Let not Time's dark curse, turn thy heart to stone.
    Tend Thy Orchard, Its Bad Limbs Prune
    Shall thee let hope hold firmest sway,
    Live life well now, without delay;
    Enjoy the beach and its cool nights
    Walk under moon's soft beaming lights.
    Remember sorrow comes with grey,
    Relief shall come if one but prays:
    Yet thy heart must seek, stay in tune,
    Tend thy orchard, its bad limbs prune.
    Hold thee deep, virtues that are good,
    Rarely say, if only I could;
    Be given more, my days are hard
    Life now deals me very bad cards.
    Send me more, I deserve it all:
    I bow and answer thy hard call,
    Reward me for my greater work,
    For my duty I never shirk.
    Tis' best to in a humble way,
    Sacrifice more, asking no pay;
    Enjoy hard tasks, thee are blessed,
    With those unseen hands that caressed,
    Faithful Hearts and Souls from the start,
    Joined in truth that which never parts.
    Embrace the favors in Truth's Light,
    Fear not demons of darkest night.
    In Your Love Dreams She Kisses You All Night
    When you see her, her bright smile knocks you down
    sweetest, prettiest girl in her small town.
    But you were too scared, and you never asked,
    in her beloved memory you now bask.
    Join the club, many have been down that road
    afraid of great beauty, scared to be bold.
    In your love dreams, she kisses you all night
    everything is just swell, all is so right.
    Then dawn arrives, you wake up all alone
    your longed for night-angel away has flown.
    Your morning breakfast does not taste the same
    far away, you hear echoes, say her name.
    Day drags by, you race home to go to sleep
    for she comes when dreams are fever-pitch deep.
    Gobble down your cold supper, hit the hay
    please, please let her come, you silently pray.
    Soft clouds flow in, suddenly they depart,
    she comes, easing into your wanting heart.
    When you see her, her bright smile knocks you down
    sweetest, prettiest girl in her small town.
    But you were too scared, and you never asked,
    in her beloved memory you now bask.
    Join the club, many have been down that road
    afraid of great beauty, scared to be bold.
    When You Seek That Elusive Holy-Grail
    When father time is short it burns,
    you have now reached diminishing returns;
    you seek elusive Holy-Grail,
    find your ship too slow due to tattered sails,
    years creep by and your soul cries out,
    what the hell is life really about?
    You find that Hope seems a lost cause,
    that Fate initiates its ending clause;
    shreds of light in your heart still rest,
    you stumble on trying your very best,
    bits of courage find ancient path,
    giving you reprieve from Fate's darkest wrath!
    Soon, you look for Nature's treasures,
    knowing that with them come blissful pleasures;
    such that oft heal and prolong life,
    gifting peace of mind, soul's rest, ending strife,
    as the years pass, you seek more light,
    knowing its glows, defeat darkest of nights.
    Rest assured, course millions have sailed,
    when their sad soul and heart were both impaled;
    all appeared lost, about to go,
    sorrows heaped, days brought harder blows,
    the sun refused to shine its bright,
    all seemed lost, and devils lurked those dark nights!
    When father time is short it burns,
    you have now reached diminishing returns;
    you seek elusive Holy-Grail,
    find your ship too slow due to tattered sails,
    years creep by and your soul cries out,
    what the hell is life really about?
