Should I Dream For Another Thousand Years

Should I dream for another thousand years
Dare this soul to its former self denounce
Times that I succumbed to shallow fears
Or a shadow tiger about to pounce
Through the darkling-cast mists of ancient years.

Should I dream, a paradise to reside
Wherein Cupid's arrows so daftly fly
Life and love joining with life to confide
Secrets of earth, beauty of new Spring sky
Time's wicked decay and the reason why.

Should I dream, eternity is my path
A sojourn through this maze, a gentle walk
Seek virgin stream for a renewal bath
Gaze at bright-lit night sky and deign to talk
About youth, folly and my once raging wrath.

Should I dream, my vanity is a scar
Its remedy a mere walk in the park
An early morn trek, one not too, too far
A realization, but one not too stark
As to leave catastrophe's door ajar.

Should I dream for another thousand years
Dare this soul to its former self denounce
Times that I succumbed to shallow fears
Or a shadow tiger about to pounce
Through the darkling-cast mists of ancient years.

When Poet Ponders What Fate Delivers
    Quotes: -- " deus ex machina "

""Aristotle praised Euripides, however, for generally ending his plays with bad fortune, which he viewed as correct in tragedy, and somewhat excused the intervention of a deity by suggesting that "astonishment" should be sought in tragic drama:[19]
    ***
Irrationalities should be referred to what people say: That is one solution, and also sometimes that it is not irrational, since it is probable that improbable things will happen.
    ***
Such a device was referred to by Horace in his Ars Poetica (lines 191–2), where he instructs poets that they should never resort to a "god from the machine" to resolve their plots "unless a difficulty worthy of a god's unraveling should happen" [nec deus intersit, nisi dignus uindice nodus inciderit; nec quarta loqui persona laboret].[20]""

When Poet Ponders What Fate Delivers

Alas! Could Fate have dealt a better hand
Than waking on this beach of cold white sand
Marooned, in this flowing ghostly cloud
I that was once so gallant and so proud
Now fleeing into a certain black doom
A victim of the Sister's spinning loom.

Those years ago, when hope was my best friend
Youth my dessert, success my blessed end
I rose wondering how this all could be
I now downtrodden, life having to flee
A victim of my pride my great excess
    Sad caricature of vanity's mess.

With my boat sank, I here freezing alone
All my self-respect, my wealth now all gone
My sweet beautiful love where has she fled
All cast aside, no longer would we wed
She a rare soul, her body so divine
I here staring at the cold salty brine.

Why had Fate to me this sad lot gifted
From glory now into the pits shifted
And my deep weeping prayers, of no use
I crying in the dark, lost as a goose
Help, when in the hell would it arrive
This great horror, would I still be alive?

Sun now rising, spreading its golden rays
I walking, promising to change my ways
Found a road, desolate beach far behind
What tricks fright plays on a sorrowing mind
What luck, I found my good friends just ahead
Life turned around, gone that dreaded dread!

Deus ex machina as Nietzsche once said
Was the gods feeding man his feeble bread
Or was it Venus panning such a plot
That mankind always sought an easy lot
Had it came from Socratic winds, a breeze
That simplest was to take life at ones ease?

I thought Euripides, sent gift this morn
To me a poet so oft given scorn
And in that moment, that gods had beset
I was sure that a god I had once met
Spoke kindly, promising a future gift
That was last night, why had it came so swift?

    Robert J. Lindley, 2-12-2021
( Within Realm Of Possibilities, A Divine Gift )

    Note:
    Definition of "deus ex machina"
1: a god introduced by means of a crane (see CRANE entry 1 sense 3a) in ancient Greek and Roman drama to decide the final outcome
2: a person or thing (as in fiction or drama) that appears or is introduced suddenly and unexpectedly and provides a contrived solution to an apparently insoluble difficulty
… the shipwreck, far from being a tragic peripety, is the deus ex machina which makes it possible for Defoe to present solitary labour … as a solution to the perplexities of economic and social reality.

Poem One: Inspired by my reading of -Lady Labyrinth's---magnificent

poem , "Courting the Sublime Significance of Nothingness"

    (1.) Poem One

Seeking The Boundaries Of Love's Depths And Her Hand

The air, its surging breath sings

into the soul of a willing fan

one that leaves baggage far behind,

    an emboldened adventurer

    Such that looks for rarity

    for the invisible truth

a soft kiss within a whisper

a song that invades heart, soul and mind

Becomes a diviner, an escape artist,

calm wading ebony seas of despair

    jealous of only Time

    envious of only beauty

fearful of enormity of mortal blindness

What curses may the shadows then utter

the pains of life and a dark pit

    nay, such does not faze

the hardy, the faithful, the true seeker

Alas! So recites the ailing poet

    lost amidst memories long fled

begging the stars to shine again

    the heavens to gift

Love, deep love , sweet love

and the divine tastes of her love

    Dare the Gods such deny

risking vanity and hateful mortal wrath

inked curses and paper cuts to hardened hearts

not so, for the seeker - lives to seek

    to touch her lips

    to into bliss fairly fall

And should such treasure be gained

die as a humble servant to fate

    without regret.

    without of arrows malice,

    shot at invisible beasts

under a dying moon and a wicked host

Fanciful the imagination and poet's heart

mixing of dreams and elusive elements

    self-aggrandizing, a warrior

    combating invisible foes

    stabbed by those eyeless ghosts

crying into wounded nights and fading lights

Aye, this and more- the seeker finds

never the eternity of lost love

the infinity of peace and joy

    the heart of her

    the touch of her

the depths of love only she gifts

And at last, the poet begs Aphrodite

    to this life extinguish

    for without love

    without warmth

    without her return

    the universes exists not…

dying embers in finality embrace the cold

yielding in sorrows to the darkness, to its empty cries…

Sight Of Gazing At Those Gleaming-Bright Newborn Rainbow Hues

Sweetness and splendor of Nature's beauty- The Rose

Imagination, myriad paths, life we each chose

Hopes and dear dreams, glory of love and life we seek

Enormity of choices, traversing this realm, scaling its mighty peaks

Curse of mortality, these flesh and bone cast bodies so weak!

Sight of gazing at those gleaming-bright newborn rainbow hues

Splendor and immense bounty of flowing skies, shining blues

Man's vanity that invades to set us on darken paths

Woes and sorrows, birthed by Fate's accursed wraths

Man's science, ingenuity, greed and love affair with math.

Humanity- earth's wonders its bounties of teeming throngs

The Arts- beauty of poetry, literature and majestic songs

Life, oft a cup gathered into warm welcoming hands

Honor, duty, the task of taking hard defiant stands

The unpredictability of Time's falling sands.

Yet dare we forget that life demands truth and sincere love

For the rose may prick if plucked without the needed gloves

In youth, those honey-eyed dreams of hot romantic nights

Lovely maiden gifting her jewels her sexual delights

That which a brief moment may overcome world's darkest blights.

Dare We Wake To Wade In Life's Luscious New Streams

As dawn comes singing and gifts its soft golden beams

Dare we wake to wade in life's luscious new streams

Shall we welcome with ardor of lover and friend

With truth and hope forgive those that only pretend

For what is life, if we but such grace dare refuse

Man was given the honor to in life so choose.

Within passion's deep gifts, love such great treasures gives.

As soothing balm, in the beauty of all that lives.

Can our dreams this dark raging world evil subside

Conquer its demons, its wicked devilish pride

Set a new course in which hope and love may flourish

Seed romanticism that our spirits so nourish

Bring on faith, that our crying souls should so cherish.

Within passion's deep gifts, love such great treasures gives.

As soothing balm, in the beauty of all that lives.

As dawn comes singing and gifts its soft golden beams.

Dare we wake to wade in life's luscious new streams.

And On Love's Path May We Forever Trod

Once this soul beheld, - joy of morning dew
Dawn- its bright golden beams racing unto-
Verna glory within love's soft sighing heart,
    Enrapturing language romance imparts,
Sight of flowering meadows, hill and dale,
Blessings of her gentle touch without fail,
As sky and sun announce the coming day
We together in Nature's beauty play.

Dare our hearts this soothing visage deny, -
As its colorful hues sets spirit's cry,
    Entranced by passion's whispering breeze
Upon love's journey we trod with great ease.
I a former victim of loss love's wrath,
She a sweet angel sent to cross my path,
Bow we both to what treasure Heaven sent
And pray to God this love never relents.

Once this soul beheld, - joy of morning dew
Dawn- its bright golden beams racing unto-
Verna* glory within love's soft sighing heart,
    Enrapturing language romance imparts.

And on love's path may we forever trod.
While hand in hand, truly blessed by God.

    Dedicated to poetry's romanticism
    and the enticing beauty that
women gift unto this too oft drab world.

    1st. Note:

    *Verna - Wiktionaryen.wiktionary.org › wiki › Verna
Coined in the 19th century, from Latin vernus (“spring-like”) or as a feminine of Vernon. Proper nounEdit. Verna. A female given name from Latin quotations ?.

    2nd. Note:
I watched it snow today, we have now about 5 inches of white
cream splashed upon the ground. Looking out the window I
thought of my youth and to my mind came a snow angel.
And the truth, the beauty of life , love and womankind
sudden the first four verses came in a flash and I snatched
a pen to jot it down. That pen had a will a heart of its own
and within minutes this came to be. I reread it -made one
small change. I changed the word "sight" to the word "joy"
As in, - "joy of morning dew", in the first verse..

Three Tribute poems-- composed by me,

    For Longfellow blog….

    (1.)

Glory Of Faith's Triumphant Golden Crowns

The rays of morn took their first golden breath

Dispersing powers of night's darkling mists

First gleams romancing sweet the earthen shores

Beating back dark shadows with glowing fists

Demanding night accept its coming death!

    Triumphant crowns!

Dawn's first yawning, a parade of new dreams

Waking Fate and its ever growing lists

With dancing echoes of showers to fall

Beating back dark shadows with glowing fists

Birthing flowers born from resplendent streams!

    Triumphant crowns!

Sweet the softest callings of better days

With man rising to earn his daily bread

And Nature singing true to cheer life's all

Earth no longer mourning yesterday's dead

Future hope setting sail as sunbeams play!

    Triumphant crowns!

    Humanity follows its usual course

While bright blue-set skies rejoice overhead

Teeming hordes traversing their daily treks

Across well-worn pathways from life well fed

Amidst the carnage of loss and remorse!

    Triumphant crowns!

Father Time speaks demanding to be heard

Above the din of crowds surging about

Commanding its fleeing hours to obey

Sternly obeyed were its arrogant shouts

And the infinite powers of each word!

    Triumphant crowns!

Sun was setting, its daily chores all done

Mortals noted the rapid fleeing light

All had felt the ever changing new course

Some with increasing joy, others with fright

Dark shadows arose screaming lets have fun!

    Triumphant crowns!

The moon sped brightly forth taking top stage

Stars came twinkling across heavenly skies

The wise old owl took its same midnight flight

Night spread its woven cloak of evil lies

While sleeping crowds await first new rage!

    Triumphant crowns!

The rays of morn took their first golden breath

Dispersing powers of night's darkling mists

First gleams romancing sweet the earthen shores

Beating back dark shadows with glowing fists

Demanding night accept its coming death!

    Triumphant crowns!

Breathe I, Sweet Earthen Air Into This Mortal Soul

And he said, resting within the shadowy dark
Tis I, that celebrates dawn's soft sinewy charm
Not to say, that life has not left its bruising marks
But rather, this near the end, I fear not its harm.

Breathe I, sweet earthen air into this mortal soul
Although this broken heart in deep darkness resides
I no longer join mankind in its daily toll
Spirit falters and in this gloom I choose to hide.

Under soft midnight moonlight I may venture out
As a phantom of the guy I used to be
    Before dawn's harsh-cast revealing rays I return
Least I become blinded as my eyes flame to burn.

He said, in his haven of deep shadowy dark
Tis I, that dares to refuse dawn's sinewy charm
I dare to say, that life has left its bruising marks
Near the end, I do fear its harsh black-handed harm.

A Quartet Of Short Poems From 1973

    (1.)
A Newer Vision, Of Paradise Lost

I went blindly into the haze
    Left the purple gloom behind
If human life be but a maze
What does love do for mankind?
    R.J. Lindley, 1973

    (2.)
A Clear Vision, Of Death's Positive Hand

    Altars of purple robed kings
    Swollen with their stolen wealth
Yet one day they too, their death bring
    Vastly improve their slaves health.
    R.J. Lindley, 1973

    (3.)
    A Truer Vision, Of Humanity

Golden pails filled with sweet dreams
    Life begging greater release
Man a vain creature of dark schemes
    Pleading purple doom to cease.
    R.J. Lindley, 1973

    (4.)
A Sad Vision, A Much Deserved Fate

He wore purple cloak, and sad eyes
    Sat upon a golden throne
His wicked life his soul denies
    Destined to die alone.
    R.J. Lindley, 1973

    Note:
Hope you may enjoy this quartet of short poems,
Written by a 19 year old lad. I remember him fondly
And in his youth and vigor had hoped for so much more
Yet life gives what it gives and man must endure its
Angry pains, its losses and its failed dreams.
These 4 poems are exactly as composed 46 years ago.

The Dark, The Mysteries Within Mankind's Sleeping Interludes

What of life in this raging spinning world?
Its stabbing pains, mouths filled with sad dust?
    Those almost unbreakable binding chains?
We, the unblinded few, the hopeful brave
Dare we , can we that, will we ever save?

In the trembles of midnight's rambling stomps
Sleeping souls dance into resplendent dreams
    Through a flowing myriad of avenues;
    Entering realms of beckoning desires
Mindless, heedless of the flaming hot fires!
Wading streams of new welcoming degrees
    Ever onward, towards eternal sea
Unrelenting, as heart such new scenes cast
Unaware, soon dawn's light will all that blast.

Dust and dying ground mix to stir anew
Schemes that are part of mortal flesh and blood
In black caverns, echoing , echoing
The fears, uncertainty brought by day's light
Now swimming in growing absence of night.

The dreaded pitfalls of much needed sleep.
Wherein we must wake up to our lives keep.

    R J. Lindley, April 3rd 1973
Rhyme, ( Staring into the ever dooming abyss- a flash of thought )

    Old Note: 1973
Woke. And a dream lingered. Its message sad and dark.
Daylight bringing in the words more clear.
What had both Poe and Raven spoke?-
"O'yes-- Remember, remember- this ravenous fear!"

    New Note: 2021

In The Image Of Dust To Dust,
    Kipling tribute poem

In the image of dust to dust
    rests the dark mankind fears
yet in its horrors, face we must
loss, decay- buckets of our tears

as crestfallen as such may be
in life- love may joy bring
rich fruits of its majestic seas
    sweet music lovers sing

dare we such dear treasures deny
    because of morbid fate
are we not brave to ask the why
    before it is too late

although time often our sight blinds
    does not heart truly see
    such dark-thinking serves to remind
rests a soul within you and me

    therein shall we contemplate more
    meaning of dust to dust
we that so seek paradise shores
    have thus mislaid our trust

pity- weakness of flesh and blood
    how selfishly we think
whilst we often bath in the mud
'til of its stench we stink

in the image of dust to dust
    rests the dark mankind fears
yet in its horrors, face we must
loss, decay- buckets of our tears.

    Rhyme,
( A Look Into The Soul And Humanity's Follies, Fallacies And Blindness)
    Kipling tribute poem for blog.

    Note:
Sorry, that this was not originally included in the Kipling blog
as it was first posted. And that because of my having been ill-
it has taken me so long to rewrite four times - then edit,
re-edit-and finish it. As of now, I have abandoned the other
third Kipling tribute poem entirely. As this took so much out
of me just to finish this one.

    Note:
I already had another tribute blog started. But seems that too
will be much delayed. As my health issues at the moment
are so greatly interfering with my writings. As such is life, I
must endeavor to cut back a bit more and hope to re-energize
    my writing-soul. God bless…

The Gift, The Truth, Hope And Its Sweet Promise

Your hope- you have gifted unto me
unto me, a vagabond shifting sand
a flightless bird lost in its plumage
under a great and mighty oak tree
    above the sun beams
    its illumination forbidding night
    vanquishing darkness, its blacken strokes
In your hope rests a truth
that his vessel surrounding my soul
    is but a temporary hindrance
    a shell, a decaying fortress
bearing the hits from cannon shots
    empty now- awaiting reinforcement
from a cavalry that vanished long ago
    Youth-
    alas! was it ever real
a maddening rush into the waiting trap
    I remember-those sweet summer days
barefoot, soft grass between my toes
    Youth-
    a man-less ship
    sailing upon uncharted seas
decorating blue skies and watery echoes
    I now stand-aged, looking back
amazed at the speed of flight
how life gave no care of time
    no respect of defiant reality
Your hope- you have gifted unto me
    knowledge, inspiration- a new goal
    to die without dire regrets
    to depart a man
    accepting truth, light, love
and the immense vanity born into mortal flesh.

The Beauty And Essence Of A Pretty Cowgirl

Although she wraps herself in soft leather,
    Wearing her pointy-toed cowboy boots,
She delights in darkest stormy weather
    And banging sounds her fast six-shooter shoots;

But hurt her and she just barely whimpers,
She is a lovely cowgirl through and through
Best to flee fast if rousing her temper
For she may stomp and beat you black and blue.

Yet gently hold her hand and give a kiss
You she may then gift a romantic night
You shall next wake unto heavenly bliss
But lord man, don't you ever pick a fight!

Although she wraps herself in soft leather,
She delights in darkest stormy weather.

    R. J. Lindley, June 26th 1979
Sonnet, ( That ravishing beauty wearing cowboy boots )

    Note: 7- 02- 1979
Met a cowgirl at the club, she was absolutely gorgeous.
We rode together all weekend. No saddle needed.
She left me that Monday morn, saying- "maybe again next year"..

    Note: 3-11-2021
There truly are some that are totally unforgettable..

As far as beauty goes , the one I met and was with- was definitely far more sexy and beautiful than the lady in that picture.
I made sure to go to the rodeo and the club that night the next year and she was a no-show. I was damn sure ready to rock n roll with her again but
my guess is she was by then involved with another guy or else married.
As women that drop-dead sexy, smart and gorgeous do not stay aloof, alone, and/or single for that long.
I would say-- her great loss but I suspect that it is by far more my great loss..
Youth and its many turns and paths taken my friend. That is life... -Tyr

edit-- on second thought maybe she thinks it was indeed her loss. One never knows...
A previous very long poem that I wrote about her had mysteriously disappeared along with some others back then
when I started dating the girl that became my second wife...

Born from sweet dreams of youth and inspiration found..-Tyr

As Her Beauty Rivals Red, Red Roses

Gift unto her red, red roses
And perhaps a kiss or two
    In her portrait she reposes
With her beauty through and through.

Dare the dawn admire her beauty
For morn needs its fairest queen
To live and love is life's duty
    Her eyes bright shimmering green.

As moon's glow highlights her dancing
    And heavens above her twirls
One's mind thinks of sweet romancing
Her face and long flowing curls.

Gift unto her red, red roses
And perhaps a kiss or two
    In her portrait she reposes
With her beauty through and through.

    Note:
I have seen this vision on lonely nights
Its promise a true treasure to desire
Those falling tears, at its vanishing sight
Breaths as deep sadness at funeral pyres.

Note- I did find that much needed inspiration today....
