Watching Over Him Until Their New Start

She was his everything lost, late last Fall
her soft touch, her sweet kiss, her blue eyes
rare gems that he would forever recall
being with her, cruel world now denies

She gave to him, true life and stars that shine
days of joy, nights of romantic splendor
such heavenly food and taste of red wine
now he prayed again, my God please send her

She gave him, dreams that soothed his broken heart
promises of paradise where she waits
watching over him until their new start
as decreed by vows of love and the Fates

Her gave her, his love, his dreams and his all
Vowed to HER, before her loss, late last Fall

Bright As That Saving Star In The Far North

Send my restless soul where cool, sea breeze blows
Across sky, blue waters and rocky shoals,
Into green valleys in peaceful slumbers
Upon the weary, IN UNTOLD NUMBERS,
Searching for soothing comfort from above
Finding only sweet relief in true love.

Send that blessing, with long, romantic nights
Moonlight bathing lovers in gleaming lights,
Beneath stone shrines in majestic blue hills
Lay gems in dreams of even higher thrills,
Promise - CONTINUED PARADISE ON EARTH,
Misery cries, nothing else is of worth.

In this my deep dream, let Heaven shine forth
Bright as that saving star in the far North.

Written as a reply to the Dylan thread in the Lounge - His Nobel Prize win.

I decided to write a tribute to Dylan's greatest song..
And yes, I know it can never match (or even come close to) the genius of the original... -Tyr

Watching That Slow Red-Sun Falling Down

Watching that slow red-sun falling down
Night will bring on heartache even more
Nothing good ever happens in this lonely town
Knock, knock knocking on Heaven's door

Knock, knock knocking on Heaven's door
Knock, knock knocking on Heaven's door
Knock, knock knocking on Heaven's door
Knock, knock knocking on Heaven's door

I am too tired, too damn blind to ever see
Relief that could this tortured mind restore
Has life and love's power fled far from me
Knock, knock knocking on Heaven's door

Knock, knock knocking on Heaven's door
Knock, knock knocking on Heaven's door
Knock, knock knocking on Heaven's door
Knock, knock knocking on Heaven's door

Nothing ever removes this tragic frown
As I rail and curse Fate forever more
King has fallen, lost his hollow crown
Knock, knock knocking on Heaven's door

Knock, knock knocking on Heaven's door
Knock, knock knocking on Heaven's door
Knock, knock knocking on Heaven's door
Knock, knock knocking on Heaven's door

In The Warmth Of My Eternal Clasp

Darling flower of sweetness, pretty face,
slender tree of heart's dear and true desires,
    wealth impossible to ever replace
and that gift of passion's greatest fires-
you the angel of my long cherished dreams*.

Within your garden my mind seeks relief,
memories of thy soft gentle touch,
dare I not abandon, that Love's belief
although fleeting, Fate, gave us far too much-
live thee again, in my heart''s longest cry*.

Where my dearest, rests thy deep caring soul,
after death tore thee from my faithful grasp,
truth, thy spirit lies not in that dark hole
but in the warmth of my eternal clasp-
our love, torn apart but can never die*.

Fate, tho' cruel, yields thus to love's final schemes.*

After reading a couple dozen poems- thought to write in my way from my youth.
Poetry form -- Romanticism.. inspired from this poem fragment, written back in 1973..

    Slow Rolls The Tide

    Slow rolls the tide-
Greater than a mountain avalanche, the power-
Seething in its rage, nothing does it hide
From sun's hot beams or night's darkest hour.

    Slow flows world's time-
Finite within this small measured space-
Mysteries abound, often far too sublime
For mankind in its sad futile race.

    Upon that granite wall
Etched in fine stone, words to be read-
No clear warning- "writing upon the wall"-
Just cold silence from the war's dead.

    Slow rolls the tide-
This world holds deep its seeping rot-
None are eager to leave the Fated ride
All greedy to keep what they got.

    Slow rolls the tide
    Slow rolls the tide
    Slow rolls the tide
    Slow rolls the tide

What in life, holds saving key-
    When will mankind ever learn-
How can dearest love and sweetest life ever be
If Heaven and Truth, mankind shall faithfully spurn?

Firebrands To Scorch Hands Of Fates

Firebrands To Scorch Hands Of Fates

One by one, the embers are dying,
Two by two, stars are aligning:
    So much joy in the knowing;
That death was in the designing.

    In by inch, the worms are turning;
Deep in the soil, life awaits:
    Raindrops of truth hotly burning;
Firebrands to scorch hands of Fates.

One by one, centuries are bringing,
    Mystical ships to safer ports;
    There in unison angels singing;
    cannons blasting ancient forts.

Inch by inch, universe is shrinking
    Light of truth is near its goal;
    Mankind shall soon be thinking;
Heaven is real, lets pay that toll.

    In My Deep Darkness

    In my deep darkness,

sun and moon did not shine
    In my deep darkness
life and love were never mine
    In my deep darkness
misery and pain held the crown
    In my deep darkness
I fell farther and farther down.

    In my deep darkness,

    I fought the world
for what it did to you
    I fought the world
for I had not a clue
    I fought the world
for what it did to me
    I fought the world
until I was no longer free.

    In my deep darkness,

your wise words still haunted me
    In my deep darkness
your love watered my dead tree
    In my deep darkness
one day your light finally fell
    In my deep darkness
your love retrieved me from Hell.

    R.J. Lindley, 1989

Note-- This poem was written in 1989, 20 years to the day, after my father's death (he died from cancer, on morning of his 68th birthday in 1969).. That greatest loss in my life utterly destroyed me. .
I went into an angry rage that fought the world for 20+ years.
(Granted, although some may question whether I've truly recovered yet)...

    Poetry Thoughts

    Poetry Thoughts

I write my poems in a deep thought
with the pain my life dearly bought
Lost, listening to my vanishing muse
this world's whispers I often use!

Words given by ancient gnarly trees
    echoes embraced from tumbling seas
Sounds of silence in forested glen
far away from greed and wiles of men

Cry from distant stars or cold stone
    shadows dancing by moonlight shown
Fleeting grabs at moments of serenity
    promising future gift of infinity

I am giant tree reaching to the sky
spreading my limbs out and so high
    Mirror of Life's fantastic desires
a creature cast from heavenly fires

I write my poems in a deep thought
with the pain my life dearly bought
Lost, listening to a vanishing muse
this world's whispers I often use!

Imagination brings sweet words to ink
volleys from ship impossible to sink
    Heart beaten into indestructible bell
Sounding red rose, eating its smell

I am a river, flooding poetic page
servant of Nature, slave to my sage
    Erupting volcano spewing heated ash
darkness that dares to live to smash

The great joy of seeing a newborn son
elation of finishing a marathon run
Memories of dancing in pouring rain
blessing of finding lost love again

I write my poems in a deep thought
with the pain my life dearly bought
Lost, listening to my vanishing muse
this world's whispers I often use!

A Prayer Offered For Sincere Love

Gentle touches that caressed her aching heart,

never she knew greater from a man-

His tender tones whispering romantic vows ŕ la carte,

quenched her hot desires for love in a burning flame.

Having been hurt by previous lover playing a game

hoping this new love held her in a divine plan-

In her fervent dreams, Romeo was his name,

was she again, tragic victim of an errant Cupid's dart?

    Deep In The Mountain Tarns

    Deep in the mountains,
    Beyond a lost road,
    Mystical spirits
    Have their wild abode.

    Lonely abysses
    Of primeval dread,
    Forests were freely
    the shy fairies tread.

    The eagle hovers
    In safety there,
    With keen eyes watching
    Nest and lair.

    Green are those waters,
    Dark as ancient bronze,
    Harbors for the souls
    Of dreaming swans.

    Through mossy branches,
    Through cavernous rifts,
    Red-sun down
    Cool fragrance drifts.

    He who enters
    That lost abode
    Never more needs
    A wandering road.

Dance With Me , Sweet Adele

Dance with me , sweet Adele,
    where moonlight soaks ancient trees:
For such memory explodes my soul and soothes my spirit,
    a date upon magical soil.

You that weave eternal, enchanting dreams,
fear not, my love walks with thee- and
where cool winds reward the gleaming dawn
our souls unite in lavish splendor.

Dance with me , sweet Adele,
    upon distant foreign shores
wrap your arms around this aching mind.
Utter those sweet words that forever bind me
unto thy bosom and luscious lips.

My Adele, dance again with me-
    even if out of pity:
For my loneliness and regret of not holding you more
For my wicked ways, my dark, vain words-
and that Fate has punished me a thousand times more!

    Robert J. Lindley,
    , 11/1/2016

Note- Began decades ago-finished this morn. Her name was not Adele but
since she was a real person in my life and all my family and hers as well would realize
our hidden romance so many decades ago, I changed the name.

Then Winter Lonely Fallows Deeply Dream

Long after that ripe golden sunset gleam
    Cool silvery tones, wavering light;
Then winter lonely fallows deeply dream
Into the grayish ghostliness of night.

Far off, yet looming bold and strangely near,
Within starry heavens they are aureoled,
    Forested mountain-ranges far westward rear
Their high guardian towers as of old.

And lo! above their ancient stormy deeps,
In pensive grandeur, icy frozen browed,
One glorious forest summit there keeps
Transcendent vigil alone, pure and proud.

And we who see that shining symbol turn
    A moment's while from its lone transient mood;
From that brief moment we clearly discern
Our lost souls within Nature's solitude.

She That Rivaled The Glowing Moon

Thy *hyacinth* hair upon white shoulders laid bare
thy face, mirror of love in heavenly skies.
The miracle of thy body, so sweet and fair
its soft innocence, destroyer of worldly lies.

Walking behind thee, in steps where an angel trod
among meadows, flowering in moonbeams there cast.
Must be a heaven for thou art proof of a God
that giveth to mankind a beauty that shall last.

Thy touch, ecstasies that rival paradise
ravishing smile, cool breeze blowing on a hot beach.
In all the universe only thee will suffice
to heal my aching soul and my heart, true love teach.

Thou art my *Irene*, that I drink of thy calm!
Blessed am I, to be soothed by thy kiss balm.

Hold My Feet To Red-hot Purifying Fires

Hold my feet to red-hot purifying fires,
    but give me decades to live in her desires;
A ride upon her enticing paradise ship
let that be my last enchanting passion trip-

And in those fleeting years my new spirit will soar,
    life will be mystery and never a bore;
Should I then and there perish in heart's greatest glee
give alms, toss my white bones into peaceful sea-

If ever you think about it, have deep regrets
    be assured I lived well, won all the huge bets;
Friend, if by chance you ever get to hold these feet
you shall hear me, these wise 'ole words then repeat-

Hold my feet to red-hot purifying fires,
but give me decades to live in her desires.

I Pray For Mercy And A Tally Not Too Precise

When years of my life are measured for next realm's path,
I pray dear mercy and blind eye to youthful deeds.
I did so sin, in my rage and black-hearted wrath,
sought icy cold beer seeking time to sow wild seeds.

What man can claim meekness and good all his life long,
walking in peace and aiding those so much weaker
Then, I danced jubilantly to love in song
fool long ago, was only a pleasure seeker!

Now facing fleeting Time and Fate's loud ticking clock
THIS WEEPING SOUL PRAYS FOR MERCY SWEET AND DIVINE
Proud of my both my fist, hammers as hard as rock
now I know it was all soft as rot on the vine.

When life is judged for entry into paradise
I pray for mercy and a tally not too precise!

    Fear Of The Judgment

Cut, knife her pure heart, and drain blood for pain
Your black-hearted soul no mercy dare show
Fear of the judgment, having to explain
Why thy heart rests within icy cold snow.
