    Rocky Shores Now So Sorely Bruise These Naked Feet

    Bitter the thickest of brine at the water's edge
    bringing memories of your lying fallen pledge;
    clashing with hoarded treasures of hot wondrous nights
    are your empty words, once believed to be so right.

    Rocky shores now so sorely bruise these naked feet
    I wonder if ever again, love we shall meet.

    Across watery divide, this truth I confide
    I then, so in love had dismissed your darker side;
    now the tormenting night-ghosts of what might have been
    curse, happily point out you were never my friend.

    Rocky shores now so sorely bruise these naked feet
    I wonder if ever again, love we shall meet.

    With angry waves stirring up bleached bones in that brine
    this demolished grieving soul, screams out please be mine;
    in vivid dreams heart tragically cries your name
    knowing no mercy comes, sorrows always remain.

    Rocky shores now so sorely bruise these naked feet
    I wonder if ever again, love we shall meet.

    Robert J. Lindley, 8-31-2018
    Rhyme- *Sad and Dark*, ( Dreams Remembered, Sorrows That Ache)

    Note- Oft from a dream remembered, I find fodder to compose.
    in this case the dream was based upon a real life loss love from my youth.
    Sometimes the pain and sorrows are too great and instead of writing to present here - I bury it deeper, while hoping it magically disappears.
    Never works but often we repeat in hope that some relief be granted.
    Having now written this piece, perhaps such relief shall be given..

    Redbone, A Mighty Blow Given Night That You Died

    He a mighty dog, grandpa just called him Redbone
    As big as a hog, he weighed in over six stone.
    Part black bear and part mutt, his growl scared one and all
    Hellfire in his gut, Pap would bear hunt him each Fall.

    Redbone, a mighty blow given night that you died.
    One young lad, went out into the dark woods and cried.

    As a pup Redbone was as beauty to behold
    Such as never before loved by a six year old.
    Soon red coat shining, he became muscle and bone
    That is why our Ole Pap came to name him Redbone.

    Redbone, a mighty blow given night that you died.
    One young lad, went out into the dark woods and cried.

    Eight years flew on by and Redbone was loved by all
    Eigth season he was slower to come when we call.
    Ole Pap call for first morn's hunt and heard not a bark
    Redbone only growled showing his teeth like a shark.

    Redbone, a mighty blow given night that you died
    One young lad, went out into the dark woods and cried.

    Ole Pap shot back, last bear hunt tore you up a bit
    Then his chew of tobacco, oft front porch he spit.
    Redbone just lay there, Ole Pap said, old friend just rest
    You have been a fine hunting dog, the very best.

    Redbone, a mighty blow given night that you died.
    One young lad, went out into the dark woods and cried.

    Next night midnight moon rose, we heard a moaning yelp
    Our old faithful friend, our Redbone's last call for help.
    Ole Pap went out, came back in with sad ashen face
    He said, Redbone is gone, friend we can not replace.

    Redbone, a mighty blow given night that you died.
    One young lad, went out into the dark woods and cried.

    The Path Became Bloody, The Door Forever Was Shut, Part One

    First Note--

    R.J. Lindley,
    March 3rd, 1976
    Dark Rhyme(The Beast and its faithful allies)-Part One

    What ails man, lives deep inside

    festering in his arrogant pride,
    Like a seedling forever up-torn
    blackness in him thus born,
    Woe to thee, that human breath take
    for earth's black lust thee partakes
    As Poe saw, the Raven foretells,
    human flesh absorbs many hells
    And black hearts answer those calls
    tho' to hide man builds many walls.
    [B]
    The Path Became Bloody, The Door Forever Was Shut
    (Part One)

    I saw the beast, drew my trusty sword
    The crowd was there, a ghastly little horde
    Devoid of dawn and reeking of decay
    allowing indifference to hold greatest sway.

    With a mighty blow, the beast was then cut
    The path became bloody, the door forever was shut.

    I saw the beast, its eyes throwing flames
    The crowd was there, playing childish games
    Beast roared and threw a vicious claw
    Crowd applauded it, they one and all.

    With a mighty blow, the beast was then cut
    The path became bloody, the door forever was shut.

    I saw beast, its fangs showed through its smile
    The crowd was there, with lust and usual guile
    Crying with hearts, black and frozen as ice
    Shouting kill the man, saying it thrice.

    With a mighty blow, the beast was then cut
    The path became bloody, the door forever was shut.

    I saw the beast, its flaming tail hit my head
    The crowd was there, laughed the more I bled
    Taken aback, my courage ate the mighty blow
    Crowd screamed out, more blood for the show.

    With a mighty blow, the beast was then cut
    The path became bloody, the door forever was shut.

    I saw the beast, slashing out in agonizing pain
    The crowd was there, shouting man can not win again
    With final blow, my sword pierced its black heart
    The crowd rushed forth seeking to rip me apart.

    With a mighty blow, new beast was then cut
    The path became bloody, the door forever was shut.

    Dark Rhyme(The Beast and its faithful allies)

    What ails man, lives deep inside

    alone can not purge, tho' many have tried,

    eating flesh and blood from dust risen,
    infinite black holding soul in its prison,
    with fanged teeth and ever deep famished bites,
    seeking to betray hope and heavenly sights,
    as man walks in darkness and cries his woes,
    it gnaws away at decaying fingers and toes,
    forever hidden from gift of renewing light
    ancient ghastly beast sworn to ever fight.
    The Path Became Bloody, The Door Forever Was Shut
    (Part Two)

    Again, new beast has risen, as was before
    Famished, seeking its first meal, blood and gore
    With my sword heavy and soaked deep bloody red
    I slash at is massive scaled body instead.

    Could this monster, a flesh and blood mortal withstand.
    Yet one must, to save our families, homes, our lands.

    Rebirth had given it size and armored scales
    New behemoth fired from crowd's hate and angry wails
    Alas! This giant, its strength taxed my courage hard
    Tho' a hardened warrior bred, my soul was a bard.

    Could this monster, a flesh and blood mortal withstand.
    Yet one must, to save our families, homes, our lands.

    Steeping back, I saw its armored hide its great girth
    Tho' fearful I swear to win, giving all my worth
    Mind now hampered by fear, its defeating powers
    I fought savage beast, growing weaker each new hour

    Could this monster, a flesh and blood mortal withstand.
    Yet one must, to save our families, homes, our lands.

    Alas! Losing hope, day and night have now flown on past
    Weary, courage waning, for I fear each blow my last
    Only prayers have sustained courage, my strength and heart
    Should I fail, my body would be ripped apart

    Could this monster, a flesh and blood mortal withstand.
    Yet one must, to save our families, homes, our lands.

    From heavens above a thunderclap struck the ground
    in its debris, new sword and glowing armor I found
    Saving grace delivered to this worn, weary soul
    Renewing hope's powers and faith to reach my goal

    Could this monster, a flesh and blood mortal withstand.
    Yet one must, to save our families, homes, our lands.

    Embrace That Love, Romance That So Overwhelms

    Sad and alone, missing your breath again
    my heart's softest beat, my one truest friend;
    with your smile a dawn's symphony of lights,
    your ardor the wondrous magic, our nights
    and your caress, the treasure of paradise
    no more needed, such will always suffice.

    Walk with me, into depths of kingly realms.
    Embrace that love, romance that so overwhelms.

    I sit sad and alone, singing my pains
    my soul's deepest desires, our love's remains;
    your sweetest touch at morn's new brightest hours,
    our bed of silk, together our showers
    and promise of day's pleasures with you
    each a bounty, a blessing, just we two.

    Walk with me, into depths of kingly realms.
    Embrace that love, romance that so overwhelms.

    Sad and alone, missing your breath again
    my heart's softest beat, my one truest friend;
    with your smile a dawn's symphony of lights,

    Yes, When It Is Truly Time To

    Time to bury the past, move on
    sing again in different tone;
    climb another mystery hill*
    soothe sooner ones love aching bone.

    Time to dance a jig, fancy-feet
    with dawns to gloriously meet;
    no longer hold sorrows that kill*
    allow true love and life to greet.

    Time to romance and wed ones bliss
    savor forever that first kiss;
    fly into skies that hearts now heal*
    embrace love, destined not to miss.

    Time to stop heartache, truly live
    carry joy in ones soul, forgive;
    dream more and treasure sweeter thrills*
    grow bountiful crops, just to give.

    Climb another mystery hill*
    no longer hold sorrows that kill*;
    fly into skies that hearts now heal*
    dream more and treasure sweeter thrills*.

    Her Grace, Soft As The Silence Of Morn's Falling Dew

    Her romantic letters, birth as heart pure and true
    supported deep vows we both swore to be held to.
    Her grace, soft as the silence of morn's falling dew
    with vows to keep hot passion of love that is new.
    Spring had brought this loving angel truly divine
    her beauty and purity no words could define.

    Spirited, she sang - forever united hearts
    Her soft kiss and moans, treasures found on no star charts.

    Nature spoke to her and she in turn gave away
    nuggets of its splendors, rich truths none can betray.
    As Heaven and Sky blessed her every foot fall
    she never said uttered a word needing recall.
    Her time on earth, gifted only goodness and light
    romancing her first love and precious was her sight.

    Spirited, she sang - forever united hearts.
    Her soft kiss and moans, treasures found on no star charts.

    I read her yearning poetry each heartfelt verse
    and in her rapture was my being’s full immerse.
    Word-whispers from the page caressed me wispy thrill
    reminding me of days sweet gilt of daffodil
    and petals pink neath dream girl skies so soft, in sooth
    enchanting was the tender season of her youth.

    Spirited, she sang - forever united hearts.
    Her soft kiss and moans, treasures found on no star charts.

    In quiet hush before sunrise our love was lush
    until aurora banished night in her gold rush
    of dawning tipsy in wine-stained heavens shinin’
    desires spilled our lusty reds across horizon -
    a blaze of colors branding love’s intensity,
    time and space sparked by fired hearts’ electricity.

    Spirited, she sang - forever united hearts.
    Her soft kiss and moans, treasures found on no star charts.

    Enlightened spirit from defeat of sorrow’s foe,
    her gift, in written verse of love, to set aglow
    a life of beauty echoing the words of love
    now distant in the skies with kindness up above
    when golden strings of sacred lust remain in thrills
    of woven love, entangled in a braid of frills.

    Spirited, she sang - forever united hearts.
    Her soft kiss and moans, treasures found on no star charts.

    Her fragile throne of virtues goodness cast in gold
    beyond eternal love, angelic charms behold
    through mortal death returned to God’s celestial care
    to guide from heavens, words of wisdom in her prayer
    endowment of the past as lover’s hearts enlace
    with charms up above, she remains my saving grace.

    Spirited, she sang - forever united hearts.
    Her soft kiss and moans, treasures found on no star charts.

    I posted this OUR THIRD collaboration at our home poetry site about 8 hours ago and now find it has been awarded Poem Of The Day in that brief span of time.
    I've never before seen such occur at our poetry site and am very pleased that my two dear friends and writing partners share in that fine honor.
    Our 2nd collaboration posted back on August 8th, received both honors, POTD and Poem Of The Week....
    A blessing to have found two such great friends and exceptional writing partners, and also be able to show at our poetry site how poets can work together without jealousy, bias and ego driven animosity. Something that in my opinion desperately needed to be given greater exposure there.....---Tyr

    Reading today from a couple of my old journals and found this. I was 20 years old when I wrote this and even now can still feel the loss of my friend.
    Death of delivers its blows given unto youth, even into old age...--Tyr

    As Truth Shelters Its Abundance Buried Within Its Fruits

    As deep well fires burn into a cavern hidden deep
    fleeing embers fly unto the one and beseeching skies
    for darkness walks here, as if a fleet footed whisper
    within its power is the seeds of awe in man's fallen heart

    Hold the Light, for its grasp reunites soul with honor.
    As Truth shelters its abundance, buried within its fruits.

    Day and night spin to weaken this murdering dread
    each a sharpened sword to slash where evil lays in wait
    and in that cycle of mans joy and his greatest of grief
    mysteries abound, the poisons of its sorcery, its gall.

    Hold the Light, for its grasp reunites soul with honor.
    As Truth shelters its abundance, buried within its fruits.

    He that seeks solitude may thus find greater knowledge
    for within silence's eternal dance, Love waits with key
    shall man's fallen heart, also torment his broken soul
    if Fate decides, even that too, will yield to the Light.

    Hold the Light, for its grasp reunites soul with honor.
    As Truth shelters its abundance, buried within its fruits.

    R.J. Lindley,
    1974 ( To my friend, William)

    Old Note-
    You my dear friend have passed on. Your friendship can never leave this aching heart. A brother you were to me since our first fight ( our friendship born thus). A friend, I found in my darkest hour.
    I too, shall one day see the door that you have passed through and may it be in friendship, your glad hand and warm smile that greets me on the other side.

    New Note- What assails the weaken state of man tis but the emptiness his soul finds in the dark. But crack a pane, loosen a stone and weakness becomes strength to see past the veil and walk upright in the newly lit path...

    The poem presented below is my entry in SilentOne's , Response to If' contest. The title If refers to Rudyard Kipling's worlds famous poem titled If.
    Presented just below my entry. I make no pretense that my poem even starts to approach the brilliance and world famous class of Kipling's fantastic verses. I simply wrote to the best of my ability and what his awesome and world famous creation inspired me to compose.--Tyr

    IF

    If you can help others fulfill their dreams
    And your heart ever seeks far greater Light
    If you hold true, evade life tempting schemes
    And with honor, you sleep in peace at night;
    If better Life and true Love are your goals
    And every day you give your very best
    If you reject dark lusts, their heavy tolls
    And try to give others their needed rest:

    If your, family, its love is your rock
    Your spirit dances with dearest of hope
    If you do not wither from life's hard knocks
    And you endeavor to expand mind's scope;
    If kindness, is steady shield you embrace
    And in its warmth, your soul chooses to bask
    If you see courage's truth, is no disgrace
    And ever seek to learn more when you ask:

    If you embrace Nature, its awesome gifts
    Seek sanctuary in its sweet abode
    If gentleness is your key that uplifts
    And you reject evil you have been sold;
    If in this life, you hold your head up high
    And wake each new morn with thankful delight
    If your heart's sincere love you not deny
    You will find its blessings forever right!

    If in times of sorrow you dare not fold
    And with brave heart face darkest of sorrows
    If years flow, you find you are very old
    And you can face shortness of tomorrows;
    If your past brings with it a certain pride
    And your memories hold that Life was sweet
    If from Light's shining truths you do not hide
    Heaven's gate, your loved ones you will greet!

    If you can think—and not make thoughts your aim;
    If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
    And treat those two impostors just the same;
    If you can bear to hear the truth you’ve spoken
    Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
    Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
    And stoop and build ’em up with worn-out tools:

    If you can make one heap of all your winnings
    And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
    And lose, and start again at your beginnings
    And never breathe a word about your loss;
    If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
    To serve your turn long after they are gone,
    And so hold on when there is nothing in you
    Except the Will which says to them: ‘Hold on!’

    If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
    Or walk with Kings—nor lose the common touch,
    If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
    If all men count with you, but none too much;
    If you can fill the unforgiving minute
    With sixty seconds’ worth of distance run,
    Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it,
    And—which is more—you’ll be a Man, my son!

    In Dreams, Her Spirit Sallied Forth: with Lin Lane

    Through frigid months, she waited for Spring rains
    to give relief and ease heartbroken pains,
    Nature will award that which Life commands
    placing her true love, in its gentle hands.
    O'sweet promise of passion's fine delights,
    candlelight dinners and intimate nights.

    With eager dreams her spirit sallied forth.
    Away from winter's chill, in the far North.

    Countless, were the eventides spent in dread
    Praying he'd stay safe 'fore lying abed
    She wished on stars in darkened Winter skies
    as tears pooled in her melancholy eyes
    Arctic winds blustered; through tall pines they'd blow,
    layers of oceans, in white waves of snow

    In Wintry dreams, her spirit sallied forth.
    Away from winter's chill, of the far North.

    Pictures sent from her beau, her Southern man
    whose dashing looks, deep blue eyes and bronzed tan,
    had her heart remembering their first kiss
    Without regret, love said, "Hold onto this!"
    To wake with dawn's sweet warmth, upon her face
    would ease her sorrow and heartache erase.

    In ardent dreams, her spirit sallied forth.
    Beyond the frosty chill of the far North.

    She brushed her hair, raven tresses fell
    Her firelight shadow evidenced the swell
    Softly, she hummed, cradling her unborn child
    A motherly instinct that brought forth a smile
    Having a babe, they had both long revered
    That he'd be back in time, she deeply feared.

    With anxious dreams, her spirit sallied forth.
    Further from winter's chill of the far North.

    She was haunted by his voice in a dream
    and awoke with the sound of her own scream
    Rain, her companion, on an April morn
    Pains let her know their child would soon be born
    Alone, she prayed that she'd know what to do
    In the door strode a man; eyes of deep blue.

    No longer a dream, her man had come forth
    To deliver their child in the far North.

    (Double sonnets- Part One)

    Death First Knocks, Fear Then Enters, Plea Given

    Cold hand of death, thy touch arrives too soon
    Weakens my breath, sorrows my tragic tune
    Thy blow that hits hard, thy strike will deny
    More years to this bard, yet gift saddest skies
    Alas! Will not thy deed, be a great waste
    Thy kiss, I have no need, its bitter taste
    Deep bite of thy fangs, this heart fails to awe
    Bittersweet death pangs, where true love recalls
    Life was oft honey-sweet, days pure and true
    Pray dawn we meet, rather than I curse you
    Stay thy hand one hour, tis but a small plea
    Let me greet faith's power, then finish me
    Now friend, your silence speaks, I shed no tears
    Moment I was weak, faith now allays fears

    ~ Death comes with a hiss, to give its reply ~
    ~ Where came such bliss, that soul ceases to cry~

    Fear me the more, I hold thy mortal coil
    Life has no soft shore, man sprang from earth's soil
    Thy spirit rebels, this fate thy wrongs bring
    Death offers its hells, dare thee to now sing
    Thy request I grant, gifting thee a week
    If vows thee recant, and curse as you speak
    Bow to my power, I death ruleth all
    I gift thee more hours, walk in my dark halls
    One week I return, more time thee may earn
    My deadly flame burns, thy love I so spurn
    Then you must submit, curse thy day of birth
    I have thus seen fit, to measure thy worth
    Giveth me your praise, bow to my great strength
    Life is a maze, thine I can give more length.

    ~ Away Death has flown, human spirit asks ~
    ~ Have I been shown, glimpse behind death's black-mask ~

    Part Two, Double sonnets- Will faith hold power or temptation of having longer life rule.

    Another Sweet Heart Crushed

    Another angel lost
    By Fate's hot burning brand;
    Cheap was the ghastly cost,
    unclean the reaping hand.

    Another vessel broke
    In life's wicked charade;
    In blackest of air stoked,
    misery on parade.

    Another sweet heart crushed
    Youthful innocence cut;
    By rumor verdict rushed,
    Gossip consuming glut.

    Another soul cut deep
    By foulest of black lies;
    Birthing words cast forth cheap,
    sent virtue sailing bye.

    Another day awaits
    Truth to stir, to be freed;
    Held back by those that hate,
    And sow their poison seed.

    Another death ends all
    Truth had come forth to bear;
    Too late stop her sad fall,
    This dark world had no care.

    (Old) Note- My dear friend has had a great lie spread that destroys her virtue.
    My lone voice telling others that the guy admitted to me that he lied and my telling others of this has had no impact- the believers want to believe and want to mock her. She being devastated, has considered the unthinkable act.
    Those wanting to believe lies never accept truth.
    She has moved out of state because one person decided to destroy her reputation. And even truth being brought forth has no impact.

    New note: I lost track of her but several years later heard that she had indeed did the unthinkable act. Evil, darkness and wicked souls too oft get by destroying innocent people. Laws protect such people from we that would otherwise deliver justice unto them!
    Taken from one of my old private journals, decided that this should see the light of day. Verses edited today, her name removed.

    With Joy, Your Singing Voice Echoes Our Love

    Hold true this obsession of mine
    that my world forever be free
    with great joy and brightest sunshine
    upon green meadows and Oak tree;
    that my right hand be clasped with thine
    nights spent in sensual display,
    taste of luscious grapes on the vine
    sent by your soft kisses each day.

    Hold true this obsession of mine
    winning your heart my faithful goal
    pray our years all joyous and fine
    fulfilling love-dreams in the whole;
    with dance, calmest of interludes,
    beauty complimenting thy grace,
    we fly to lofty altitudes
    our deep love, nothing can erase.

    Hold true this obsession of mine
    that treasures I lay at you feet
    I forever let your light shine
    each dawn waking to your smile greet;
    with rapture born of life well spent
    your singing voice echoes our love
    your beauty there on satin sheets
    and our happiness born thereof.

    My Note:
    Written after years of study of this brutal and murderous act and from reading this firsthand
    account from the pen of soldier that was serving and in duty along that cold-hearted and
    ghastly long death match forced upon these innocent people!

    Where no honor, no respect, no pity, no decency was given them and deliberate cruelty was inflicted
    upon all these Native Americans, young and old,weak and frail- all deliberately ill provided for and suffering from lack of food, bitter cold and forced marched under the most inhumane conditions possible.
    Resulting in 4000 deaths... buried in unmarked graves.. Robert

    A Rhyming Tale Of The Barbaric, Murderous, Trail Of Tears

    Sun had failed to rise on this once deep and true red-bloodied land
    Horrors of death, shock and saddest surprise was soon to be at hand
    Tiny moccasin feet trudged along in coldest of that bitter wintry cold
    So many innocent lives, would never live to become another year old
    All captured, forced on a march, their innocent lives had been sold.

    Proud and hearty race of people living true within Nature's fold
    By government order captured,sent away,because greed and lies told
    Imagine being dragged out, forced to travel barefoot in brutal weather
    Those that so loved their homeland and oft wore proudly eagle feathers
    The old and frail oft beaten by wagon driver's stinging whip's leather.

    Shall we now so trample newborn flowers, forget our ancient dead
    Denying hope's sweetest dreams and stumble forth blindly instead
    Shall we forget deliberate horrors and think love and mercy won instead
    Or dare to see barbarity, murder and murder of those whose skin was read
    Hide this historic tragedy while we sleep warm, and safe in our beds.

    Dare we examine massive cruelties that man inflicts with heavy hand
    Walk along each blinded path embracing evil's dark, few can withstand
    What of four thousands innocent lives lost for such greed, ill gains
    Is not this true historic account a lesson, evidence of wicked stains
    Fraught with great tragedy, unnecessary deaths and god awful pains.

    In my dreams I see, those poor children starving or else frozen to death
    In my harshest oaths, swear never again, not while I still have living breath
    O' the wails and moans of mothers moaning out such grave, grievous loss
    While their hardhearted cavalry masters, carried on giving not a damn toss
    With no more thought than that of kicking a rock, covered with moss.
