got an ATM card?? XP runs these as well

Most ATMs will remain on Windows XP after Microsoft pulls plug on OS support

    link

i never had a ATM card. but I suspect some of you still use XP on your home PC's

Presently using WINDOWS 7. But I preferred XP. It had many more options available. In fact. XP was probably Microsoft's BEST version of Windows...IMO. Wish it was still available with support.

I'll still use it sparingly, and maybe in the virtual world. I just won't rely on it as my primary machine anymore. I'm still staying on Windows 7 now instead of upgrading to 8, I may wait to see what they drop out next and just bypass 8.

I used to crack up when you would happen upon an ATM at times only to find the blue screen of death (BSOD). I've also seen this on boards at the airport too, and at a Blockbuster video store.

Win 7 is the best OS in my book, with XP a close second.

Still don't like Win 8, I'd probably get behind it if they'd make it look and feel like a traditional Windows OS. That stupid screen with the big icons drives me nuts. I want a start button, task bar and the desktop with icons that I choose to have on it, and I want to be able to quickly navigate to different areas of the computer without thrashing around for 20 frustrating minutes.

Perhaps my age is showing... radically changing something like Windows angers me, and I've been playing with it since 3.1 and was playing with DOS back in '88.

Nighttrain. Totally agree. I grew up with the New Internet, when everything was in DOS, A BLUE screen, white letters. Until, in the navy. All of the screens became Black with white letters, 5 inch, then 3 inch floppies, and all COMMANDS were simple.
The Huge Icons of Windows 8 almost make you feel like it's a KIDS GAME, waiting for PAC MAN to come streaking across..WAKA WAKA WAKA.

I can still use DOS much quicker, and easier than Windows. Best part is..being able to see ALL OF THE SOURCE CODES....and knowing what they mean.
Navy training still pays off for me. Anyone remember when a MODEM weighed 25 Pounds? I do. Had to use a Land line telephone, placed in a cradle..then dialed the number to get a HOPEFUL connection.
And today..cell phones are as powerful as ALL of the equipment I used...combined back then.

All my PCs except my gaming machine are running Ubuntu Linux. My gaming rig is on win8 which does the job.

You can switch to a desktop easy enough and if you really need a start button, you can install one. However since I got used to unity, clicking search and typing the name of a program or document is more natural to me now. At leasy in Linux you can install an alternative desktop to work however you want it to. Even go totally old school.

I agree about the command line. In Linux I always have a terminal open doing something.

I'm with you but I thought I heard that they had developed some new "skins" to simulate Win 7. I haven't looked into it very far as my work around is working.
