Default So it Turns Out Starbucks...

...Isn't really doing, well, any thing at all:

...Initially, Starbucks said that workers would be able to offset the costs through an upfront scholarship it was providing with Arizona State, but declined to say exactly how much of the cost it was shouldering. The chain estimated the scholarship would average about $6,500 over two years to cover tuition of about $20,000.

Following the announcement, however, Arizona State University President Michael Crow told The Chronicle of Higher Education that Starbucks is not contributing any money toward the scholarship. Instead, Arizona State will essentially charge workers less than the sticker price for online tuition. Much of the remainder would likely be covered by federal aid since most Starbucks workers don't earn a lot of money.

Workers would pay whatever costs remained out of pocket for the first two years, and Starbucks would bear no costs.

Starbucks Corp. had previously declined to say how much it was contributing to the scholarship. But in a subsequent email Wednesday evening, Starbucks said that the scholarship is being "funded by ASU."

    Starbucks Contribution to Scholarship Overstated

To be honest, I had heard about the "scholarship" but hadn't given it much thought. Having said that, I'm not that bothered by the revelation, nor does it surprise me.

    That bothers me...

Lol. Perhaps if they didn't have to pay $15/hr to entry-level workers (in Seattle, at least), they could do more good deeds.

That would be one reason for sure, but how about if they served a decent cup of coffee that didn't cost a arm and a leg.

Yup I am not one for all those yuppie flavors.

HERE < here!!! I wasn't that concerned with whatever they said cuz it is generally a lie. Same goes for ilk such as "CRACKER" barrel....only cracker barrel does have a different base. Still, the likes of companies like Starbucks, Homo Depot and others truly turn me the wrong way. My wife once liked Starbucks but after she had me go with her a couple of times, I finally got through to her. It truly isn't that good a cup of coffee and I simply can't stand the low-life looking punks who usually work there. It's hard to not judge a book by the cover but it is also not necessarily a bad thing to judge either. It can keep one ALIVE (first and formost) safe, healthier and having more money in your pocket. Of course, this is not politically correct.
Yes, they are a liberal based company and I wouldn't do business with them or believe a word that comes out of their mouth. They are all lacking integrity and I wouldn't care if every chain went belly up that has trampled free speech and other AMERICAN freedoms (as 'Cracker' barrel did. By the way; are they getting the last laugh on that title......especially when/after showing their true colors a few months ago? HHHhhhhmmmm....me thinks so.

By the way....some of the BEST coffee I've ever had was in a truck stop about 150 miles + South of Chicago and it didn't cost me an arm and leg, was hot and fixed EXACTLY how I like it. And I would just LOVE to see the faces on those Starbuck fans out there about now. HA!!!!!

For low or no-skilled entry -level employees? No. And a deed done out of compulsion doesn't count for much on the part of the "giver", if you can even call him that.

Abbey. Just imagine what walking into some fast-food place will be like if you ask for a burger and fries...and the person serving you OFFERS to pay for your food since...THEY MAKE MORE THAN YOU, and their food still SUCKS.

Just before the place closes forever since the Franchise Owner declared Bankruptcy, and applied for FOOD STAMPS, and WELFARE.

No, coffee drinkers aren't dumb.....just the liberal ones or the pretenders. HA!!!

Anyone paying the amount SB asked for is VERY dumb; especially when more than a few of the truck stops have such GREAT coffee at a good, FAIR price.

What's even better is that one doesn't have to rub elbows with the 'girly~boys' or listen to their dialog with each other.

I'm sure he is. At least until the company has to close due to high payroll costs.

In the meantime, the weed budget can increase.

The Company may or not be what is being portrayed. Their 'customer base' though shouldn't be judged by the actions of the company. I drink coffee, a LOT of coffee. Starbucks certainly isn't part of my daily routine. There are times that do make it a venue of choice.

Sometimes I want to meet friends and sit outside and have a flavored coffee or tea-Starbucks occasionally is one of our choices. More often, Panera fits the bill. Both are places that I feel very comfortable bringing my laptop and papers if I wish to get out of the house and still get something done; sort of a place with a bit of noise that give them a one up on going to the library.

Truth is, I think the 'liberal moniker' put on Starbucks is little different than the 'crappy conservative label' put on Walmart. Both are a function of political operatives with a bullhorn of the press available.

What I'll never understand is the crazy prices people are willing to pay for the Starbucks crap. Even just a plain old cup of coffee is an absolute ripoff, IMO, and also my opinion is that it tastes horrible on top of that. Unless you like drinking jet fuel that tastes like burnt coffee beans. I'll go to a gas station, local bagel store, my own coffee... The coffee I get is never more than $1.50, about .50 cents a cup when I drink K cups at home. No way I pay $3-4 for the shit they serve.
