Caliban. What Windows version are you using, and what kind of PC?

Sounds like your IP may be doing some house-cleaning (many of them do on Wednesday), or your machine needs a cleaning. "DEFRAG" or use your tools to clean out useless programs and cookies.

If in doubt, roll back the update and see if the drag on your internet speed continues; that will eliminate the update as the culprit. My son had a severe problem with his computer and it turned out the extra hard drive was dying.

I would make sure the computer isn't still installing files & backing itself up. If the CPU is being hammered, everything will drag.

Use XP. You won't have that problem.

I.....stopped doing the "windows update game" years ago. Used to have it set on automatic updates. Well one morning I powered on and discovered that none of my USB ports were working. No longer recognized. And yes, there had been an update. After pulling out most of my hair and yes, going a bit batty, I did a system restore to before the update (I think, it's been a while) and disabled the auto update feature and have never looked back.

You could technically try what Xena is stating, although I don't recommend long term. You can do a system restore and go back a few days, prior to the updates, and see if the issue goes away. That will at least tell us if in fact one of the updates created your issue. If it does or doesn't, then we know how further to help you with that answer.

Here are the updates that were performed yesterday, if this helps:

Jim. I agree in many ways with you, on this. However. We must all be mindful that NOT allowing Windows to do important Updates, can leave huge, open holes where Hackers, Trojans, and Virus Malware tend to go to invade Microsoft products.

Microsoft does give you the option to agree, or disagree with certain updates. But, unless you have A SECURITY PROGRAM...like McAfee, or many of the others. You do risk permanent damage that will do more than SLOW your computer.
