Default Van Halen Kicks off Reunion Tour - with Roth

A Van Halen reunion tour, with David Lee Roth back in the fold after 22 years, is in the works, with a Las Vegas launch looking good.

A late April date at the Palms' new venue, The Pearl, is "99 percent" likely, a source said.

It would be the latest coup for Palms owner George Maloof, who will open the 2,500-seat venue with a lineup that includes Tool, Evanescence, Gwen Stefani and possibly Van Halen, all in the first month.

A 40-date tour is being discussed.

Roth fronted the band from 1974 to 1985 before going solo. He was close to rejoining about 11 years ago, but a blowup caused another rift.

Van Halen's last tour, in 2004, grossed about $40 million, with Sammy Hagar as the lead.

Tool would open the Palms venue March 16-17, Evanescence would follow on March 17, and Stefani is set for the April 21 grand opening.

Yeah, but Eddie's 15 year old son is playing bass.

And, at this point, I don't think too many people will be that excited to see Van Halen with Roth.

I bet it doesn't last more than 1 show...if that.

I love Van Halen, but Dan you hit the nail on the head. Without Micheal Anthony on bass and backing vocals it just will not be the same. Really they have become a parody of themselves.

    Beats Van Halen with Hagar.

The question is, can they keep from killing each other for more than a couple of shows?

    I'm sure they'll be fine..

I saw a show on that tour in SLC, it was like watching 2 different bands on stage. There was Eddie and Alex then Sammy and Mikey, kind of weird.

This tour announcement begs the question, full album release before the tour?

Hopefully not another greatest hits album, the have already put out a couple of those. You would think they would want some recent material to play on tour and have on the radio.

They'll be scratching each other's eyes out on the first date. I blame Eddie. I think he's the bitchy one.

I agree. But to be fair, Roth is probably a huge pain in the butt.

That's all part of his charm

Seriously though, the 'behind the music' type things I've seen on them, even with Sammy Hagar, it seems every one of their tiffs has stemmed from Eddie getting pissy and controlling over something stupid.

I read a discussion on this on another board and someone who'd seen them live a few times said that Michael Anthony's backing vocals were so prominent, he was practically like a second lead singer. I don't think they'll be able to get by without him.

Did anyone know that Eddie did the score for a porn movie not too long ago? Kinda weird, but makes sense, in a way, I suppose.

From their very first tour. 1978, I think. I don't know how whoever got this got this, but there it is.
