One should be careful. They may turn into vampires.

I think these are fruit or insect eaters. They only thing they suck up from people is the love.

Back when I worked for the state of NJ a guy caught a Bat that called the crawl space under his house home, he brought it to work because we had a guy we worked with that had all kind of weird pets. The guy wound up letting the Bat go , but man that thing was almost scary looking.

Maybe scary looking but if you have a bat colony around you definitely have fewer problems with mosquitoes. The little fledermauses eat mosquitoes in huge quantities.

Very true. I don't like bats, but living in the mountains they are just a fact of life once sunset hits. Very few mosquitoes though.

For the record, I really hate when they skim across the pool while I'm in it!

    You beat me to it.

I didn't know that until I flew out 300 miles West of Anchorage to visit my girlfriend at a lodge she was running for the summer.

I noticed that the mosquitoes were absolutely horrendous, to the point that if you opened your mouth to talk, a dozen would fly into your mouth and make you choke. It was hellish. But when we got to her cabin, which was a ways away from the main Lodge setup, they were much better. I didn't think much of it, until I stepped outside at 2 AM and it was pitch black outside.

Suddenly there were high-speed buzzes whipping past my head... left, right, top, front, back... BZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzz! BZZZZZZZzzzzzzzz! It was her colony of bats that had moved in under her eaves, and as the mosquitoes moved in on me, the bats sprang into action and nailed them before they could reach me. It was kind of unsettling to hear and feel their wings as they shot by my head in the dark.

I need to figure out a way to start a new colony up at the cabin.

    Default hpw to attract bats

There are a bunch of online resources telling folks how to make bats want to hang around. This is one that has a good overview.

You know, the last time I was in Germany and saw a man standing above everybody else, we ended up disagreeing.
