Default Wisdom in Quotations from Wise Men

Quotations that ring true and help if understood and acted upon.. -Tyr

He who feeds a wolf strengthens his enemy.
Appeasement feeds the Muslims as they thrive upon it,
cultivating and nurturing it as a crop for harvest!

From those I trust God guard me; from those I mistrust, I will guard myself.
Never trust much to a new friend or an old enemy.
All virtue lies in a power of denying our own desires when reason does not authorize them.
From our ancestors come our names, but from our virtues our honors.
Kindred without friends, friends without power, power without will, will without effect, effect without profit, profit without virtue, are not worth a rush.
Most men are more willing to indulge in easy vices, than to practice laborious virtues.
Poverty does not destroy virtue nor wealth bestow it.

Both folly and wisdom come upon us with years.
It is a great point of wisdom to find out one’s own folly.
The next thing to having wisdom ourselves is to profit by that of others.
Wisdom is the mother of all arts.

Feed famished hope with the cold alms of pity.
He may hope for the best that is prepared for the worst.
Hope is an egg of which one may get the yolk, another the white and a third the shell.
In the greatest ill the good man hath hope left.

Do not stir up an evil that has been fairly buried.
Evil habits soil a fine dress more than mud.
Three great evils come out of the north, a cold wind, a cunning knave and a shrinking cloth.
We will not believe the existence of evil until it is upon us.

A state’s anger should not take knowledge either of fools or women.
Anger is often more hurtful than the injury that caused it.
Anger makes a rich man hated and a poor man scorned.
He overcomes a stout enemy who overcomes his own anger.
He that is angry without a cause, must be pleased without amends.
Ruling one’s anger well is not so good as preventing it.

Courage is the armed sentinel that guards liberty, innocence and right.
Courage consists not in hazarding without fear but in being resolute minded in a just cause.
Courage leads to heaven, fear to death.

Better live in a poor hovel than be buried in a rich sepulchre.
By living I mean doing what deserves to be written or writing what deserves to be read.
He lives in fame who dies in virtue’s cause.
He most lives who thinks most, feels the noblest, acts the best.
He that lives with the muses shall die in the straw.
He that is not handsome at twenty, strong at thirty, wise at forty, rich at fifty, shall never be handsome, strong, wise or rich
He who lives after nature shall never be poor; after opinion shall never be rich.
He who lives in hopes, breakfasts ill and sups worse.
He who lives without restraint, will die without honor.
Courage ought to have eyes as well as arms.
Human courage should rise to the height of human calamity.
In doubtful matters courage may do much, in desperate, patience.
There is a courage which grows out of fear.

It is good to see in the misfortunes of others what we should avoid.
Misfortunes are common to all; life is like a wheel, and prosperity unstable.
Misfortunes seldom assault a man singly, but assault him in troops whom fate has marked out for ruin.
Most of our misfortunes are more supportable than the comments of our friends upon them.
Our worst misfortunes are those that never befall us.
When misfortune sleeps let no one wake her.

An escape from death is worth more than the prayers of good men.
An honorable death is better than an inglorious life.
Death devours lambs as well as sheep.
Death hath nothing terrible in it, but what life hath made so.
Death opens the gate to good fame and extinguishes envy.
Death rather frees us from ills than robs us of our goods.

18 U.S. Code § 2381-Treason Whoever, owing allegiance to the United States, levies war against them or adheres to their enemies, giving them aid and comfort within the United States or elsewhere, is guilty of treason and shall suffer death, or shall be imprisoned not less than five years and fined under this title but not less than $10,000; and shall be incapable of holding any office under the United States.

    Nice Tyr ^^

I found this below and felt it was interesting...

Free will, human choice is always a extremely complex issue to discuss. Basic point is with it one is not a drone without it one is a drone.
Obviously humans have free will and that indicates a desire to give us the right to decide to choose good over evil or NOT..
God did not want robots.... simple as that my friend.--Tyr

Can others contribute - or is this specifically for the stuff you've written?
“… the greatest detractor from high performance is fear: fear that you are not prepared, fear that you are in over your head, fear that you are not worthy, and ultimately, fear of failure. If you can eliminate that fear—not through arrogance or just wishing difficulties away, but through hard work and preparation—you will put yourself in an incredibly powerful position to take on the challenges you face" - Pete Carroll.

Look forward to reading what you contribute.
I wrote the first quote only, of that long list, the rest were famous quotations by great minds throughout history. -Tyr
