When I get home from work. I will share mine. It is really good. I may have shared it before, not sure

Could be something other than the ingredients as fj has said he can get Hunts right at Kroger, or it could be a different brand altogether, I will check with the Laura and see.

fj another thing that makes a big difference is the bread ( yea I know that isn't the gravy ) but when you mentioned getting things at Kroger instead of say Walmart it came to mind, in oprder to have a real Italian dinner you have to have good bread, Public's has the best I can find down here, not their Italian bread but rather their French bread, it isn't perfect but it is very good just the same.

I think with sauce it's probably more process than ingredients. My mom makes stuffing for thanksgiving and doesn't even have a recipe so when she tries to tell me what's in it and then I make my attempt... it's just not the same.

And I'd probably agree that Publix has the best bread of the major chains. If you could find better bread down here in the big city... you probably could but you'd have to wade through all the places making gluten-free bread. It probably wouldn't be worth it to make the drive anyway.

I figured somewhere down in Hotlanta they have to have real bakeries but like ya said, it just is to far, so Public's it is.

Jeff, every lunch and dinner we had in Italy came with bread. But- and this was a surprise for us- no butter to spread, no oil to dip it in, nothing with it. Just the dry bread.

I hope you like this recipe. I know what you mean about most canned tomatoes.

4 large cans Dei Fratelli diced "seasoned" tomatoes.
1 lb bacon, fried, save bacon grease for later
    1 red bell pepper,diced
    1 medium onion, diced
1 clove of garlic or 2 tsp garlic powder
Lots of basil, I love basil. Use your own judgement.
2 tsp hot red pepper flakes
    2 tsp of black pepper.

Fry the bacon, crumble it into the tomatoes. Place your diced red bell pepper and
onions into the hot bacon grease, cook for 2 minutes

Pour bacon grease and diced onions and peppers into the tomatoes
add garlic basil, black pepper and red hot pepper flakes. Cook on low for 2 to 3 hrs

Serve over your favorite pasta, sprinkle with fresh shredded parmesan cheese.
