Inspiration, Revelation, Adaptation, Within Poetic Verse

    Sonnet I

I saw morn's soft hands stretching to touch bright moonlight
Tis but a fleeting blink betwixt man's death and birth
Dark unknowing is why we so oft fear the night
In that abject blindness, fail to see life's true worth
Alas! Such are sorrows of mankind's constant plight
    That feeds malignant swellings of darkness on earth;
Those of ancient times, of distant long dead yesterdays
Will one day from that deepest of slumbers arise
Long hidden from flown days and nights, world's weeping grays
Be reborn with no thoughts of world's previous lies.
As earth spins, sounding its constant evolving beats
We blind to light's truth, continue our foolish acts
Racing onward counting our coins and useless feats
Life came from light's truth, not so-called man-made facts.

    Sonnet II

I that thought to profit, see beyond mortal veil
Having never measured truest rectitude of life
In my epic quest, the highest of mountains scale
In youth, blind to sad flowing storms of mortal strife
Alas! We that in our darkness refuse to see
Oft face raging storms that seem to forever swirl
Not realizing, Love's blessings are given free
To counter lightning bolts world's malevolence hurls.
I that foolishly thought to defeat that we die
Later learned truth that our vanity denies
We are lost because we believe world's greatest lie
That we were once roaming beasts beneath earthen skies
By our own greatness became gods of divine might
Free to do as we please, revel in our delights.

    Sonnet III

In June, when wondering winds our hearts so lighten
I have found eager bubbling brooks streaming along
Summer's morn setting up to day gaily brighten
Nature gifting beauty, songbirds gifting sweet song
Across flowering meadows, busy bees flying
Life many treasures so beautifully sharing
Time to live, not sadly ponder mortal dying
For truest of joy depends on our loving caring
There rests much more happiness in sincere kindness
And sweeter breath within Love's soft touch inspiring
Eyes to truly see, welcome defeat of blindness
Rather than worldly conflicts and daily sparring
To satisfy our fleshly dreams and dark desires
Lets embrace light's divine truth that never expires.

A New Light, Bright Rays That Are Sent To Heal

New light, brighter rays bequeathed to heal

those deep aching fears, terrors of the night,

those wicked world uses to sweet joy kill

in its evil nature uses to blind.

New sight, a soft-cast wind sent to fill sails

those gifts of hope given and life anew

those sweeter dawns, that dark cannot assail

impregnable, new shield given to you.

New faith, a glory Heaven has thus sent

those pearls of wisdom that defeats dark fears

those words healing what was so torn and rent

wiping away sorrows and falling tears.

New light, new sight, new faith, a true godsend.

To a lost and blinded heart heal and mend.

    Robert J. Lindley, 7-06-2022

    Sonnet

    Note :

Joy Requires Not Treasures, Nor Golden Spoon

Watch the rays glitter and dance a new tune
Joy requires not treasures, nor golden spoon.

Written early morn, as dark ran away
changing of the guard, as sun took the day
beacon to waking world, all is not lost
so rise and smile, summertime has no frost.

Watch the rays glitter and dance a new tune
Joy requires not treasures, nor golden spoon.

Life's hope, morning glories in full bloom
watch as a new future fills empty room
take a deep new breath, world will still yet turn
gone is the darkness, ones' soul rightly spurns.

Watch the rays glitter and dance a new tune
Joy requires not treasures, nor golden spoon.

Reprieve, A Return From Ashes And Dust

When heart dares to live again seek
Hope comes gifting a little peek
Over rainbow and a bit beyond
Out far past shores of ones' small pond
Beyond mountains found in our dreams
Beyond greed and our worldly schemes
A return from ashes and dust
    Finding happiness is a must
For there is no life without joy
    Returning, one must this employ
    Courage to risk falling apart
So hard to repair broken heart
Dawn cries out, rise to love renew
Others have done that, so can you!

    Note:
    Riverbank, watching waters flow
Living with aching pains in tow
    Golden moon above shining down
    Heaven above, its glowing gown
I ask, Lord what is left of me
Am I truly this fallen tree
Then heard is a clear booming shout
Open your eyes, look all about
Again strive to see, light is free
You do have a true friend in me.

A Bright Yellow Golden Moon Floating High Above

A bright yellow golden moon floating high above
Its radiant rays falling softly to our sweet earth
Beauty, flowers, her dancing with me all in love
And my heart happily singing for all its worth.
That epic summer we both swore Fall we would wed
Gleaming sun that day was bright vermillion glowing
She my sweet darling, arising from our soft bed
Our kisses were like a raging river flowing

My lover and I had our rejoicing glows too
Alas! How could we know such ardent love could die
She sent a dear John letter and to Hawaii flew
Left me alone, with a mystery, no damn clue.

I remember my body shook and my mind ran.
She, had thus deserted me for another man.

Love lasts forever! Millions know the sweetness lasts too!
I may be older than most. I may say things not everybody will like.
But despite all of that. I will never lower myself to the level of Liars, Haters, Cheats, and Hypocrites.

Now When I Go Visit, Tears Fall, It Makes Me Sad

He rode the high plains to hell's dead weathered edge
Across the highest mountain on a horse he road
His grandpappy a wild man swung a heavy sledge
Many are the glowing legends on him were told
His heart was big and as pure as the finest gold
And he had a brilliant mind swift as blowing wind
The whole town, the entire county on him was sold
Even the meanest of animals was his best friend.

Yes, true to character they all on him were sold
Now from a baby he was a he-man full growed
And yes, a good country boy he was fairly grown
Old story, a good man, best I have ever known.

Now lies in small town cemetery, my loving dad.
Now when I go visit, tears fall, it makes me sad.

    Robert J. Lindley, Sonnet
    March 24th, 1970, age 16

Note. I was quite young when I wrote this poem.
I was barely sixteen. Did not know much about the world but I knew my dad was a very honest, hard working, tough man.

Death, Drought, Pestilence And Midnight Nightmares

The whitewashed sand, little flowered ocean
The beaming moon splattered its shadows and light
The Gypsie's cried but still gave up their potion
And the angry wolves followed next howling at night
Rain-colored splashes hit and soaked tree tops
The deep dark was split by soft hesitant moon rays
Out in the verdant fields, the blue-fairies' dance stop
Ahead was mass of monsters hidden held at bay
Heraldic stars shown with innocence virginal
Hector had died and Achilles was laid to rest
Here in the blacken real world life was terminal
Both Mark Twain, the gambler, held their cards to their chests.

Infinite shadows wait in the dark underground.
We yet waiting for ours, dared not a single sound.
