Skulking Between Shadows Of Midnight's Mask

Rise up demon, from pits in which you burn
your echoed curse, invades this fevered brain.
As yet I cling- to bright light that you spurn
as your foul mouth belches soul eating rain.
You dare not- face my wrath in light of day
skulking between shadows of midnight's mask.
You fear most- help from prayers that I pray,
truth's invincible shields from behind which I bask.

Rise up now, from hellish fires you embrace,
meet the answer to cursed torments you sent.
Dread the laughter- when you fear the human race
and you find your time has been so ill-spent.

Rise up demon, from pits in which you burn.
As yet I cling- to bright light that you spurn.

I Know, This Is Just About, As Good As It Gets

I walk forest paths, because they are my best choice
Find the calm, by hearing Mother Nature's true voice.
With eyes clear, I see fish flop, lake water glisten
I view Nature's paintings, to its music listen.

As welcomed sun, renews my newly stirred blood
I wade the low streams, feeling their cool, oozing mud.
As clouds above, move in to give the needed shade
I marvel at, this tapestry Nature hath made.

Trekking on, to highest of bright green, forested hills
Looking down, lakeside beauty, its many thrills.
I feel calming breeze, as Nature enter my veins
I have left behind, dark world and its many stains.

As red sun cries out, that it is about to set
I know, this is just about, as good as it gets.

Thank you my Dear Friend Robert,
Having read this poem I acutely felt yearning for summer and suddenly felt an attack of boat-fishing toxicosis.
Indifferent alike to praise or blame
Give heed, O Muse, but to the voice Divine
Fearing not injury, nor seeking fame,
    Nor casting pearls to swine.

The First Time Love Became A True, Dark Curse

From whence you came, I truly knoweth not
you eased in and with guile ate into bone.
Now you are gone, soul has been set to rot
in dark flowing wind, sad and all alone.

Yes you are, my accursed eternal ghost
once clinging deep and ravishing my heart.
I true blind and in love, played willing host
whilst you once feasted away, "a la cart".

Life hurts, I regret even your abandon,
whilst living in this malignant cloud.
You had to win, leave no real man standin
written here my words, never spoken aloud.

From whence you came, I truly knoweth not.
Now you are gone, soul has been set to rot.

    R. J. Lindley,
    1976
    Sonnet, (Curse and Darkness)

(OLD) Note- She never leaves my thoughts. Yet her love was poisonous and sent to destroy.

New Note- A truth, some women can burn so deep and so romantically hot that they destroy the lover they are set to consume. She destroyed the me that existed then--for good or bad--nothing can change that eternal transformation.
Decided to rewrite and finish this old poem fragment, shorten it to a sonnet rather than the 24 verses that it was first written in.

In My Silence, Rests The Remains Of A Slain Beast

In my silence, rests the remains of a slain beast,
the gathering of wolves, to indulge in a feast.
Such was once not a defeat in deep shame
rather, a great victory in a man's family name.

This day I speak this truth, of the ancient past
cherished words of sweet life, such may be my last
True, once my walk was in the clouds, lofty air
of that memory, I now have far, far less care.

Sweet love and life, thy music no longer plays
my soul, no longer rejoices in its lost ways
A harsh reality has now ate deep into my bones
dark music plays and in its loud wicked tones.

In my silence, rests the remains of a slain beast,
the gathering of wolves, to indulge in a feast.

When Poets Question Why They Dare To Write

What more can I say true, what more well, can I write
to give the world and yet not join in its dark plight
to walk a brighter path and thus hold my heart true
sing a welcomed song, one that is soft and so true.

Ah, but such tis the poet's struggle, greatest fight
speak clearly, to write with even greater insight
nay, I hold no special power, no special key
I a writer, seeks to find the poet in me!

I write with hope, hope that such may aid the readers
what are poets but soft beggars and sincere pleaders
protecting bark around the tall, mighty oak tree
the shining truth, in this chaotic, earthly sea.

Ah yes, you have caught me in a poet's spun tale
Question is, does dust or water, spring from my well.

A Few Words Sent Admiring You, Our Rose

A few words sent admiring you, our rose
cast forth to honor beauty, its delights.
World has a great many but they it chose
to radiantly glow within our sights.

Verses designed to give honor in prose
proclaiming depths and blessings that you give.
Tho thy chosen path, my not us have chose
you loved true, creating the life we live.

When the depths of thy tender heart is seen
the rose's magnificence fails to surpass.
A blessing to us thy love is so keen
to teach us to love and honor amass.

Yes sweet mothers, thy true love is our rose.
We love thy all, from thy head to thy toes.

When Death's Dark Shadow Comes To Greet

When Death's shadow begins to speak
Sad sorrow words, not for the weak
Fleeting glimpses of its black cloud
Fear, is always to be allowed.

When Death's heart, sends its wailing moans
Devil's music cast in its tones
You eyes and ears are both alert
Of dark signs of six feet of dirt.

When Death's dance, shows in deep, dark swirls
No escaping, none boys and girls
Say a quick prayer, grab your socks
For too soon comes its fateful knocks.

When Death seeks its turn, you may learn
If its heaven's winds or hot burns.

I Lost Count Of Falling Tears I Have Cried

I find fault with you, that sent me through hell
Into mind realms, despair and jagged glass,
I recall nights, love thirsts, we could not quell,
Did we both stop, looking for greener grass?
As you now live, can you say our dreams died
That your heart no longer holds place for mine?
I lost count of falling tears I have cried,
Since your loving hand no longer grasps mine.

On nights that moon sends its romantic rays
do you look at the glow and think of me?
Some say love roulette simply does not pay
For the death it finds never sets us free!

As you now live, can you say our dreams died?
I lost count of falling tears I have cried.

Do We See Some Angels Are Living Among Us

In sweetest dreams she saw angels that truly cared
deepest love, truest of hope she so happily shared,
felt beating rhythm life and Nature at its best
treated all as, "in her home as an honored guest".

Upon morn's welcomed light she rose to kneel and pray
giving heartfelt thanks for life and each bright new day,
cooking morn's first meal for many a hungry soul
giving, giving of herself and faith her true goal.

Tho' human she was an angel to one and all
with faith, courage, bliss she answered that important call,
embracing love's truth with those she loved by her side
she happily gave her all and much more besides.

Then one cool summer night she flew far far away.
And this dark world was even darker the next day.

The Wake Of Sadness, In Youth's Brevity

Vagaries of wondrous youth I so miss
Sunset, its purple hues, her tender kiss
Bacon and fried eggs, waking to dawn's gold,
Sweet things one remembers when getting old.
Warm fires, those heavenly campfire nights
    Love's delights when making up after fights;

Rose garden and gleaming glamorous reds
Morn's happiness when rose from our night bed
Voice beckoning me to give longer hugs
"I Love You", you put on our coffee mugs.
Such dear things, deepest treasures I now hold
Romance tales, I feel must be retold.

Alas! Youth flies away and does not last
Yet greatest of treasures lie in our past.

Two Hearts, Two Lives, An Eternal Meld

Hold your horses, those waters arent so deep
far, far more to life that eating and sleep.
Roses gleaming, dawn's beckoning new frosts
things you'd defend at any and all costs.
Picnicking, lakeside with your true soulmate
times you won, while so sorely tempting Fate!

Living to discover love, its treasures
path taken, with life's sweet, simpler pleasures.
Now gaze back at nights of hottest romance
time with her, leaving -nothing left to chance.

Magnificent joy, two loving gems held
with two hearts, two lives, an eternal meld.

Time And Life's Woes, What Great Teachers They Be

I have grown, this world I no longer fight
Had I known, battle never makes it right
Long ago, put on harden battle gear
Slain tender heart, destroying my great fear.

Time and life's woes, what great teachers they be
from treasuries of pains, oft one may see
Dark world, clever devices used to destroy
blinded victims be they man or young boy.

I have aged, darkness now covers me
I have raged, never before did I see
Life is a path, pitfalls scattered around
by our actions, good or bad we are bound.

With paper, pen and heart, this I do write.
This world's darkest darkness one must still fight.
