Why Are We Such Willing Slaves To The Clock

Back when slow pace was considered prudent
humans lived off nature and fertile land
If history is read a good student,
will find that modern life is not that grand

Yet we now are ruled by slaves to the clock
not just work but in all our daily life
Here to tell you, we oft make our hard knocks
with self-made rushing pressures causing strife.

Slow down to enjoy life and its treasures
relax and enjoy blessings when given
Adopt a better yardstick that measures
true wealth by pure joys in simply liven'

We may think life is better time-racing
such an error, we should not be facing.

Had I Never Climbed That First Tall Oak Tree

Had I not dared break free or it break me
would an unhappy soul have never sang
or songbird's nest grace willing willow tree
or prairie not fed herds of wild mustangs.

Had I known, life too oft, becomes a joke
that Christmas snowmen far, far too soon melt
if farmer's fresh virgin ground never broke
and dawn's awakening in tired bones felt.

Can one ever know, why nights are oft feared
morn's clear calls are refused, even dreaded
as if dawn's open arms have disappeared
and its embrace is somehow wrongheaded.

Had I never climbed that first tall oak tree
Who or what on this earth would I now be?

Saddest Blues Flow Through Winter's Broken Frame

Saddest blues flow through winter's broken frame
Even when its cold winds no longer chill.
Sure, white snow at Christmas garners great fame
Yet we forget blizzards oft creatures kill.
Horrible sights such sad, hard frozen scenes
Realizing death travels in its breath.
Bitter truth, I found in my early teens
When my puppy escaped and froze to death.
Yes, I was far too young to understand
Winter is Nature, as death to living.
When I see, ice frozen across the land
My heart yearns for Springs new, greener givings.

That moment, those sad blues are tossed away
Anticipating Spring's first warm green day.

Note - Each year without fail, the last few days of August , ever since my early childhood I start thinking about Winter's bitter wrath and its destruction on the weak creatures. I can only guess, my puppy somehow getting outside that bitter cold night and freezing to death, had a lasting and deeply profound effect on me.
For even now, with my understanding of Nature's finely tuned purpose (ITS FRAME NOT BROKEN), in disposing of the weak to keep the strong alive I still start to get those blues well before the bitter cold arrives.
THAT THINKING HIT ME EARLY THIS MORN AS I WALKED OUT INTO MY FRONT YARD TO A CHILLY MORN, IN AUGUST, HERE IN THE SOUTH.
Thus I came back in to jot down these verses and remind myself-- tho' man may despair, Nature follows its purpose with greatest of care!

Joys Of Home And Mom's Tasty Apple Pies

Consider Life, between earth and high clouds
Throngs of dancing shadows moving in Time
White headstones and sad widows in black shrouds
Poets painting wondrous scenes with words and rhyme.

    Frost, dying flower's aromatic wilt
Fallen timber and wolf's well hidden den
Man's somber plight, of sin, death and great guilt
Life's sweetest dreams and loves of mortal men.

    Nature's harmony in destruction's wake
Epic poems, songs that traverse Time's realm
    Golden memories, we never forsake
Tears of happiness that so overwhelm.

Life, betwixt earth and heavenly skies,
Joys of home and mom's tasty apple pies!

Yes, You Hated Me For My Honest Views

How well I know that deep hate in your smirk
Contempt for the poor ones, that have to work.
Haughty and arrogant in your great wealth
Convinced treasure will buy you better health.

I have seen swagger in your daily walk
    Condemnation of how Southerners talk.
Convinced entire world revolves around you
Feeding your fantasy with all you do.

Not long ago, we were very good friends
Until I saw, it is you that pretends.
Now I walk with my friends, humble and true
When they ask about your life, I ask who?

Yes, you hated me for my honest views.
And I you, for your hundred pair of shoes.

Question Of Time And Vagaries Of Love

Velvet waves, in oceans infinite time,
have in earthen plane, lingered far too long.
Glowing embers, newborn love found sublime
wedded to a new voice in a new song.

Far above each brilliant rainbow's soft glow
Hope's true flag, hides in distant dreams unfurled.
Are fated vagaries of Cupid's bow,
dearest treasures of this sad, corrupted world?

Does mortal thought bar eternity's hand
man in epic disgrace, run gauntlets blind?
If we ever learn to fight world's command
will we leave human weaknesses behind?

What of time, its many imagined ghosts?
Did they ever set any true goalposts?

    Old Note, January 4th, 1972-
I have written this poem, my thoughts, after my good friend has died
    in a car accident.
He was set to get married in June.. Life gives us no guarantees.
I do not expect to ever make 30....

New Note, 9-09-2017- Well, I was wrong on the death by thirty bit..
Has been 45 years, 8 months and five days since I composed that poem.
Beneath it was a rewrite of the first 8 verses. That had been crossed out.
They werent bad either... Yet, I decided to post the original..

My Muse Commanded, Write Dark Poem Today
    ( In Tribute To Poe's Genius )

What purpose does that huge black bird pursue
with its unholy and incessant calls
Could it be, sent to punish and abuse
as oft are mirrors on adoration walls?

How does it find bedroom window late night
with more maddening, sleep depriving shrieks
Does so with such dark, devilish delight
with its screeching torments for many weeks!

Was it because, Poe's darkness I so love
or depths of my own dark caverns explored?
Can such be countered by blue skies above
or truth written in my own treasure hoard?

Can Poe's raven spirit truly be to blame?
Or could it be, I so crave for his dark fame?

A Poet's Thoughts On Love And Death

Love unknown or love lost, which is the worst,
each has power to make yearning heart burst?
Life first seeks love, from its very first breath
may beg for it or curse it on its death!

Even deepest love can not stop soul's end
    tho' imagination oft says pretend.
Its power is for life and those living
lovers true of heart, prone to forgiving.

Some say, love reaches back from other realms
to heal broken hearts that death overwhelms.
While critics declare such can not be true
death's finality love can not undue!

Poets may debate such sad, unfair judgments
with words coming from biased testaments.

Yet Ever Onward, Onward Keep Treading We Must

Any moment we may lose a love one so dear
so exists that long black hand of foreboding fear.
Yet not until it comes into our lives and rips
away that treasure, do we see its icy grips!
Invisible claws slash to send into decay
forever gone tho' in agony we oft pray.
And as long silence answers from far far above
we face saddest truth, we lost that which we so love!

No more hearing, that cheerful good morning salute
as if life never existed and sounds are mute.
And within this darkness pain too oft reigns supreme
as we fight fleeing shadows of our once great dreams.

Yet ever onward, onward keep treading we must,
standing still in life, oft brings early death and dust.

Regrets Stacked Like Red, Red-Stained Floor Tiles

With biweekly cannibalism of heart's desires
    cannon fire of emotions that sear and sting;
in this canister of love that never tires
ceaseless unending fires it forever brings!

Bluebird dreams, thy hand soothes my pain
    night's passions that thy soft touch bestows;
thy dear memory, sweetest hope doth remain
like rolling reruns of greatest romance shows!

Before thy arrival I had known only deep lusts
    steeped with callousness heart now reviles;
darkness blown in with malevolent wind gusts
regrets stacked like red, red-stained floor tiles!

That you left, mystery and loss in thy wake
And in thy haste, our time and love did forsake!

    Tragic Retreat Of Broken Hearts

Comfort, to rest beneath the bark
safe and snug in hidden cocoon.
Yet no flying as a skylark
Or sight of majestic new moon!

Safe to remain in such - detached
    lone shadow in silent retreat.
Scared bird egg that was never hatched
blank page on life's fast flowing sheet!

What profits if you dare not live
    instead safe and alone remain?
No joy, should one dare not to give
    nothing given, nothing to gain!

Live! Leave comfort of thick barked tree
Meet bright sunshine, learn to be free!

Note- Read an old poem this morn. A past experience in my youth.
Sat down to write about the withdrawal so many choose when love lost crashes their blissful world.
And how in time, most wake to realize that love and romance are not happy fairy tales each and every time...
For some it is a harsh learning process. What is commonly called-- Life.
    Life lesson learned is oft-
TIS BEST TO STEP BACK INTO THE SUNSHINE AND JUST GET ON WITH IT!

Having been a bit lazy about writing lately and my posting old poems- I decided to sit down and write a sonnet.
My muse having fled a few days ago, I had to wing it by myself. I hope you may enjoy this piece and not fault me too much
for my having chased my muse away.. She is by no means an angel and deserves my wrath from time to time....
Well, at least that is my story and I am sticking to it...----Tyr

If Only I Could Soon Be Slain Again

If only I could soon be slain again,
As first true love and she slew me.
With pure joy, from ear to ear I would grin,
We would settle down by the sea!

If only, life would not change my bold plans
And steal dearest fruit from my tree.
On white-sand beaches we would get our tans
Breathing fresh sea air, being free!

Should we ever have that love-chance again,
Under new suns with cheerful glows.
I would cherish her gold, a blessed man,
In love's firm grasp, see that it grows!

For that chance, what dragon must I now slay?
Answer please, I fear any more delay!

O' Man, Thou Art In Arrogance Oft Lost

Within earth's vast herds mysteries abound
as man walks in shadows that prance and play.
Life is an ocean that swirls and confounds
such odd, vain and weak creatures made of clay!
What of miracles for fear we do not tell,
for shame that such will never be believed.
Nights when one just knows he has been in Hell
and was only, by dawn's brights lights relieved!
Silent prayers uttered in agonized mind,
with blessed answers that arrive to heal.
Or lost treasures we thought to never find
returned by way of things that dreams reveal?

O' man, thou art in arrogance oft lost.
Blindly stabbing that darkness at great cost!

Unrequited Love And Sad Nightly Calls

Wherein solitude, shades long day's travails
my desire for your true love yet remains.
Nights arrive, I battle through living Hells
death knocking loud with heartbreaking pains!

O' that your deep sorrows you had not found,
into your private island had not fled.
Now, I am buried in unholy ground (*suicide*)
each night a pale ghost rising from the dead!

Yet I struggle, in haste to fly to you
with ghostly arms, begging you to follow.
You heard sad moaning voice, asking not who
your refusals, bitter pills to swallow!

O' that I had lived and gave you my all.
You would love me and not hear nightly calls.

What Of Long Dead Summers And Poison Wine

What of long dead summers and poison wine
    ancient sunken ships and sad salty brine;
shadows staggering in coats of damp moss,
dream lovers, mad nights and life's greatest loss?

What of the billions, now fast sleeping dead
    graves unknown unkempt, barren flower beds;
true love, that once could launch a thousand ships,
mother's deaths and daily hospital trips?

What of love and memories so sublime
    falling tears and prayers, begging for more time;
    helplessness, lonely, cold hospital room
cold hard certainty of impending doom?

What solace in thoughts of- Life must go on?
Misery lingers, when mothers have gone.
