Will Their Valor And Courage Buy A Reprieve

Was it a nightmare, gory horror show
    battlefield where death's malevolence grows?
Soaked by buckets of warm seeping red blood
that once peaceful soil now reddish, red mud.

Why had such valiant men sacrificed so much
leaving behind, lovers, wives tender touch?
Are all doomed to Hades, its punishments
leaving loved ones to scream wailing laments.

Will their valor and courage buy a reprieve
heal the misery of those that yet grieve,
give greater life and love to those left behind
or a sad loss to forever remind?

We may ask, do wars brave dead, go to hell,
even if those brave souls dutifully fell?

When This Broken, Only A Dark Sonnet Will Do

In this deep melting pot of sorrow's seeping doom
    nightmares, I see hearse caravans rolling through gloom;
with sad echoes of creaking wheels and painful shades
comes immense agonies of ever piercing blades.

My soul seeks shelter from splinters of dying wood
    shielding grief stricken heart from dark barely withstood;
curse that penetrates spirit's armors, valor's halls
with shards of poison glass, cutting through castle walls.

Midnight shadows come out, dance in repugnant scenes
    vomiting spittle, with hideous stagnant greens;
Fate and Time, both delay dawns lights, needed reprieve
enjoying all the more, epic loss this heart grieves.

As dawn and its promise reminds, faith saved this life,
I see again, death's horrors on that bloody knife.

A dark sonnet from decades past. --Tyr

Fate's Wicked Black Hand And Its Long Sharp Sword

As withdrawn sword shows its reds and gashed side aches so
horror's hand is shown in colors that are vibrant,
within swirling shadows and their flesh flaying blows
echo black curses and cuts that are redundant.
As this rampaging world, crashes upon the weak
innocent souls walk into nights of wanton sins,
oft embracing evil with relish, stench that reeks
with no thought to stop or ever make true amends.
When it seems Fate's granite mountains tumble on down
falling to crush blind masses and drink flowing blood,
safely away have flown those with their golden crowns
into havens far from the poor they see as crude.
Yet even mighty Kings can not flee Fate's true wrath
as dark deeds insure miseries lay in their path.

If Despair And Sorrows Vanquish All Hope

When those sad tears wet aging eyes
    heartfelt moans accompany such cries
there time and love denies beauty's soft touch,
this wicked, evil world has crushed far too much!

When hurt and pain consume romance
break its firm hold, giving not a chance
such deep cuts, each broken heart penetrates
where blood puddles in pools as it concentrates!

When her heart flees, sadness arrives
often is best if one but survives
in dark pits where miseries gain power
demons toss down pain from their high black towers!

If soul wakes where horrors amass and abound
You have fallen, only saved if true light found.

Morn's Coffee Will Taste Of My Tears

If you have left me say it plain
some deep cut hearts can't stand the strain.
If dawn shines and you are not here
morn's coffee will taste of my tears.

I'll not beg you back, not my style
I will deeply mourn little while.
Strap on my boots, in dark world go
embrace sorrows I've come to know.

If you ask forgive, try again
I will say no and say amen
Let your past forever be gone
I'll chew my cud and live alone.

When we both die, again we meet.
I will pray not your soul to greet.

Sitting In The Dark, With Darkness Covering Me

Sitting in the dark, hearing voices in the hall
remembering my many lovers, one and all.
Some that sent my heart aloft, on heavenly flights
others that kept me company on lonely nights.

Sitting in the dark, seeing true beauties once known
then, the fairest of gardens, never overgrown.
Night waning, those echoes, their honey-drenching calls
also remind me, of my many faults and falls!

Sitting in the dark, with darkness covering me
begging each, please forgive me, what I did to thee.
Silence, as each lover then slowly fades away
Ah yes, we mortals, for our sins we have to pay!

Dawn sent morning rays, break me from my dreaming trance
Was I wrong seeking many in youthful romance?

Abandon Dead Trails And Thy Sybarite Lust

If Nature's earthen-fires thy bosom holds
    and thy heart's countenance mind's eye thus sees;
life serves best those adventurously bold,
walking worn paths, resting under its trees.

Seek in truth the great beauty God has made
    the opulence of colors in blue skies;
let not dark, thy human empathy degrade
to sorrows that in turn, love's joys deny.

Instead, denude kings of their stolen cloaks
    and the golden castles they have stolen;
take time to visit regale forest oaks,
ride the rapids of rivers swift and swollen.

Abandon dead trails and thy Sybarite lust
let Natures awe, thy seeking heart there adjust.

Power Of Beauty's Deep Kiss That Is Thine

Our hearts woke to more, life, love and we two
    with no score kept, our joy was overdue;
for more and sweetest of all our love-nights,
    a testament, lover's purest delights,
succulent flavor in finest of wine
power of beauty's deep kiss that is thine.

Two souls danced on romance's golden shore
finding ardor's depths that truly restore,
the vineyard and luscious grapes on the vine
you found your love and the blessing was mine.

As two renewed spirits in paradise dwelt
purest love, beauty of the rose was thus felt.

    Robert J. Lindley, 8-18-2018
Sonnet, ( True Heavenly Angel That Once Was Sent)

Note- Woke to loud calls from my demanding muse.
Her scorn clear her order was leave those blues.
Regain the reward of the blessing of true heart.
Again poetry and sweeter life restart.
Live up to thoughts and reward of thy friends
Spread ink and know, poet's love never ends.

Nature And Spring Both Represent Hope Eternal

Late in Spring, newborn buds were bright and agrowin'
sun spoke early, roosters for fight were acrowin'
hours rolled on by, cold winds soon began ablowin'
northeaster acomin' on, signs were ashowin'.

Garden tilled and planted, new plants were emergin'
was a fantastic new year, high hopes were surgin'
the last few years, weather had been crop destroyin'
farmers had been their most faithful prayers employin'.

Dusk had arrived, cold blizzard winds were ahowlin'
like ravenous pack, hungry wolves now aprowlin'
ready for new feasts, long sharp claws disembowling'
not again, not again, farmers were avowin'.

Next year Spring again, new hopes began asproutin'.
Farmers got needed rains, praise they were ashoutin'.

Between Hopeless Groans And Epic Sorrows

Living mad, sad, broken and overwrought
dragging rusty chains, in misery caught.
Praying anew, through, true heart wrenching woes
fighting this wicked world where anything goes.

No time to feel, chill, heal slow bleeding
on blinded feasts so many are feeding.
One cut birthing more, sunrise to sunset
despair thinking, never better it gets.

Can not, rush, hush, brush, these sorrows away
best any light gives is faint feeble grey.
In between fallen down, doing without
pray for you, if you know what its about.

Living mad, no time to feel, can not hold
hope for relief before I am too old.

My Gift In Having You, Dear Friends Did Once Extol

Despite grace and beauty, your silence ate my soul
    in that realization, aching pain broke in;
my friends, my great luck in having you, did extol
our breakup, I simply knew not how to begin!
Neither you nor I could such tragedy explain
sad missteps, sorrows found, each of our greatest banes.

To this day, better than your love, I have not found
    yet tho' life may beat and trample us at its will;
we are not during such times always chained and bound
for in love's seas, we may reap without any till.
As destiny plucked away bliss, with heavy hand
it did not burden with more, than we could withstand.

Despite grace and beauty, your sad flight ate my soul.
My gift in having you, dear friends did once extol.

Note- This is an old poem, slightly edited today to present here now.
I am not being lazy when presenting these old poems. I am reviewing my old stuff, to either keep it or else completely trash it.
Some are keepers but need minor editing. A few are keepers but need heavy editing. This one needed very minor editing( about 3 minutes worth)

Each Swearing, One Day More, Just One Day More

Moon was waning, much needed sleep gaining
both lovers tired of heartache explaining.
One cried, there is the exit door take it
I alone will surely fair well, make it.

Other lover cried, yes, I bet you could
with the guy, that has been chopping my wood.
There is the door, why don't you just take it
I was real my love, I didn't fake it.

Silence stood hard, from naked truths given
both lovers needed to be forgiven.
Then sleep overtook both their warring dreams
soon would come morning sun soft golden gleams.

They dressed, then ate and kissed at the front door.
Each swearing, one day more, just one day more!

Sonnet, ( Life Finally Teaches Us That Time Never Waits)
    Note-
Saddest notes played in late midnight hours,
are regrets falling like rain from darkened towers
yet no man is immune from this darken curse
for life is a play lived with no time to rehearse.
Life Flees, As If Faint Whispers In Moaning Winds

As fleeting hours flew into eternal abyss
once youth and love, imagined to dream
so went grave error that time allows this
facing life, always with full head of steam.

We marvel at the beauty of ancient oaks
majestic towers stretching to eager skies
oft captured in the glory of artistic strokes
yet burdened by this world of worldly lies.

Weep not for more, for dying is our Fate
and task of living well often most hard
if one has learned and loved, they can relate
evil world is a test, just ask any bard.
