Farewell, Youthful Days Of Wading In Crystal Clear Streams

Farewell, Youthful Days Of Wading In Crystal Clear Streams

Farewell, the coming dawn and its soft, golden glow
born as infant fawn, a peaceful river in flow
or a memory of life beneath crescent moon
Refreshing breeze, shade's breath, simmering in hot June.

Farewell, that dream, a glory yet to be unfurled
Predawn vision of happiness in this sad world
or true essence of love and its power to heal
Lost soul, gifted again the joy a heart can feel.

Farewell, those whispers of new promising delights
found within romantic scenes on cool moonlit nights
or lingering kiss, given within sweetest zeal
infinite treasure once found, none can ever steal.

Farewell, new discoveries of love, its powers.
Farewell, remembered gems, those passionate fine hours.

Deep Within Woes Of Love's First Dying Breath,
    Sonnet Doubles

Lost, I am not there, you can not reach me
woe, dark and naked- all life is not fair
tho' heavy blows hurt, they do not teach me
nor my rebellion prove I do not care.
What cost, does battling iron hard life gain
woe, will not victory's breath life thus save
man's heart from torn soul, fated shards of pain
in raging wrath, I slay dear hope I crave!
Morn's frost, its gem glows, penetrate my haze
woe, dare I entreat its whispering calls
in my own retreat, cast aside love's craze
storm the dark castle, burn its wicked halls!

Lost, I am not there, you can not reach me.
Tho' heavy blows hurt, they do not teach me!

Within Stone, Writhing Silently To Step On Out,
    Sonnet Doubles

Within stone, writhing silently to step on out
not to atone but rather to cry and loud shout
on sorrows born of paths blind to reality,
    falsehoods created by man's ingenuity!

Within dark winds, churning up ghastly gusts of hurts
nothing defends, raging evils in gushing spurts
or those pains birthing deep searing relentless aches
shattering love as its romantic passions break!

Within dying lights, remnants of hope and regrets
can woes, shortness of life be as good as it gets
echoes of nights, shades of Poe's pain in black abyss
and weeping tears remind of that last goodbye kiss!

Within stone, writhing silently to step on out.
Not to atone but rather to cry and loud shout.

Sonnet doubles, a look at this dark world...RJL
    (1.)

What Of Humanity, Life And Happiness Lost

Dark spirit, sad heart battling against mortal mind
sad breath of warfare and its slashing bloody blades
aftermath, in death's red-gore, truth hard to find
and those so slain, sad march in Hades' ghost parades!

What of Humanity, Life and Happiness lost
gleaming bright dawns millions will never again see
woe, hideous price paid, at highest of dear costs
dregs of hate and unseen loss to both you and me!

Can living bring joy, or loving bring needed peace
will death with its red-laced hand our demise delay
or Time, its steady winds bring that sweetest release
as blood-lust power demands war forever stays!

Alas! We each must face world's ravenous deep dark!
In this churning ocean, hide from Death's hungry shark!

Flames Cooking, Life's Slow Coming Feast

Meat in black iron pot stewing
while life's troubles are dark brewing
night brings its hidden blacken paths
frailty of flesh in its deep wraths.

Flames cooking, life's slow coming feast
wicked the meal ate by the beast
night only dies when sun peeks out
morbid loud moans racing death's shout!

Pot now steaming, flames shine below
futile dreaming, pain all poets know
in the oven, baking fresh bread
please free me, words too often said!

Black curse meal cooked by hungry beast.
No time to wretch, rancid the feast!

When Spring, Its New Symphony One's Pleading Soul Hears

When Spring, its velvet fingers sweeter music plays
New dawns gasping with sunlight streaming all around
Vanished, icy chills from somber winter days
Replaced by Nature's beauty and its living sounds
Life takes on a new bounce, heart a jubilant song
World opens up, its echoes crying out, "Let us live"
We that in this realm must battle to get along
And in hope of hopes, strive to love and act to give!

When Spring, its eager hands majestic music sends
Nights may bring blessings of hot romantic fevers
Life, Love, Harmony, Creation so softly blends
Dancing depths of beauty, makes us true believers!

When Spring, its new symphony one's pleading soul hears
We may live, leaving behind past sorrows and tears!

    Robert J. Lindley, 4-22-2020
Sonnet, ( From A Walk In The Bright Woods On A Sweet New Morn )

    Note:
Striving to leave doom and gloom behind, I wrote this new poem.
A poem born from a memory of a new Spring day back in 1977.
That Saturday morn while getting breakfast at a nearby restaurant,
I met a ravishingly beautiful lady and instantly fell in love.
Such bliss as one can never forget and later Fate's cruel hand
that brought that loss that forever burns as cries in midnight dreams
of a devastating loss that scars one's soul forever.
The poem expresses the beauty and joy of that first morn and both
of our deep loves of Nature and its many gifts.

In That Magical Moment, Stars Align, Happiness Reigns

In that magical inner sanctum where heart truly sees
far more than the banks and eddies of the rivers we swim
there colors of Life in vibrant idiosyncrasies
far exceed and outshine saddest gasps of our fleshly whims.

In that magical realm, one's soul may meditate and grasp
wake new morn, to mortal breath and Cosmos Fated decrees
embrace Hope with knowledge that we need to finally clasp
firmly true love of Life in earth's many bountiful seas.

In that magical sight, dreams may gift deeper countenance
of the many deeply blinded trails we foolishly tread
setting us on sweet paths of Light and blessed sustenance
wake us to reality, Life ends not when we are dead!

In that magical moment, stars align, happiness reigns
We can find anew Faith, Light and Love gifts eternal gains!

    Robert J. Lindley, 4-25-2020
Sonnet, ( Looking past the black cloud that storms against us )

Note: New day, morn says yesterday's footprints are dusty
reminders that life continues ever onward, despite our worries
and too oft overblown fears. Fate will not be thwarted, and
    what will be- will be..

Found that the new grim reality of the results from the fear and panic
and its harm will not be repaired anytime soon. Likely to be decades if
even half of it gets repaired. Such reality that set me to compose a
new poem about the other reality, that we always exist in a world
hellbent on celebrating/promoting darkness, destruction, evil and too
oft untimely death unto we mortals. Fate and our own deep blindness
combine to lead us along a bloody, and futile path into most of the
worries, woes and sadness we encounter. Yet Light, Truth and Faith
can and does counter that folly. I hope many wake up to the fear
blindness that some have caused with their overblown predictions
and their many deliberate outright lies about this new scourge.
And that this nation gets back on its feet and deals out some well
earned justice unto those that have caused far more harm than the
    virus has, imho. -Tyr

Begging Eternity, What True Love Brings

New sounds coming from an old forest deep
and whispers that like loud cannon blasts boom
yet amidst such din, romance invades sleep
through open window you enter my room.

Resting quiet at the foot of my bed
my darling, pure joy cast for there you stood
in silken robes, golden crown on your head
I beg, stay always if only you could!

As you gift smiles and Love from bluest eyes
lonely soul cries can such bliss will remain
there in glows soft cast by yellow moon sky
we join to kiss and your loss you explain.

I turn to see as forest again sings.
Begging eternity, what true love brings.

Lost In The Shadow-land, A Ghostly Wind

Lost in the shadow-land, a ghostly wind
sad, poor prophet of what life now portends
aging hands, blue heart- immune to hour's breath
held dear, memories of Love unto death,
aghast at forest of boulders once laid
no longer fond of sad music well played.

Melancholy winds- thy slow cutting blades.
Dancing the blues, in life's little parades.

Lost in the shadow-land, black snow neck deep
grim harvester of tears I wade in sleep
aging feet, walking down trails of red dust
onward into world's darkness, go I must,
in awe of the might of this truth profound
great pity is Love, that is never found!

Melancholy winds- thy slow cutting blades.
Dancing the blues, in life's little parades.

Lost in the shadow-land, seeking relief
wrecked by folly of my dying belief
aging eyes, blinded by lost Hope and pain
wrestling dark winds of heartache without gain,
torn by, sorrows born from Life's many blues
hurt set, fated loss without any clues!

Melancholy winds- thy slow cutting blades.
Dancing the blues, in life's little parades.

Honest Are We, Embolden Truths Dare We To Face

Saddest are we that attempt bending Light
clash within ourselves, when all hope seems lost
unfathomable, yet we strive with might,
to defeat loss and Love at any cost!

Truest are we that dare in seeking to learn
while world in heavy chains so firmly binds
dare we to pray and our redemption earn,
forgiving sins, to heal our wounded minds!

Bravest are we that our lives truly live
decide to stay and not retreat in flight
offer up shattered hearts to mercy give,
even tho' success may not be in sight!

Honest are we, embolden Truths dare we to face.
Weakest are we, thinking True Love we can replace.

From previous poem fragment posted in prose poetry thread.
This is the finished version-- a sonnet.

We Must Endure Time, Life's Brevity Oft Under Dying Skies

In turmoil heart denies sad echoes far too oft heard
rumblings of despair, jealousies and despicable words
So hard this flung stone into space silently flies
we must endure Time, Life's brevity oft under dying skies
Gone are those failed glories of achings oft brought
as vast universe in its long, cold shadows has taught
Vain are those heartless and blackened souls of mankind
for lonely cold is darkness resting within mortal minds
An immense chasm bitter cold, deep and abhorrently wide
A convenient fortress in which evil so cleverly hides
Massive walls that hold within, pain and sufferings cast
self-inflicted from uncovering graves of a dark past!

From within such destruction is nurtured and thus wrought.
As penalties of dark treasures that we so foolishly bought!

Thanking Heavens Above For Your Every Breath

Walking a most fine line betwixt and between life and death
thanking Heavens above for your every breath,
myself, my heart, my soul- and my passion aflame
your gasping sighs, your kiss, prove our Love is no game.
Love's truth in the minutes, the hours, the blissful days
beauty within your most tender and graceful ways,
the pure honey sweet of waking at dawn with you
satisfaction with life and true loving we two.
Within the great ecstasy that your soft touch brings
in that moment, that epic joy - this grateful heart sings
both sun and sky smile upon such a wedded pair
I thank God, in this joining we both treasures share!

Walking a most fine line betwixt and between Life and Death.
Thanking Heavens above for your every breath!

    R. J. Lindley, July 10th. 1973(original unedited version..)
Sonnet, ( Romanticism, Searching for Love's Holy Grail )

    Old Note-- July 12th 1973
May this note, this letter, this poem stir the flames in your heart
With the prayer that Love never allows us to part
That vow we both swore and Life we now each hour, each day live.
Bears dear, passionate embraces and gems born that we each other give.

    New Note: May, 7th, 2020
This from the graveyard of youthful love
From the memory of what Life often brings about
That what is soul deep may yet prematurely perish
And we may fail to hold on to that which we most cherish..

I wrote a new sonnet as a reply to this old one that I once gave her.
In it a bit of wisdom found and sincere regret at my youthful folly.
Not sure if I should post it here. As how much dare a poet reveal
about his past love, life and that which once so crushed a weeping heart?
Is it a little, a bit more or the entire whole of it all????????????????

Thanking Heavens Above For Your Every Breath

Walking a most fine line betwixt and between life and death
thanking Heavens above for your every breath,
myself, my heart, my soul- and my passion aflame
your gasping sighs, your kiss, prove our Love is no game.

I Walked The Wet Sands, Just Beyond Lapping Waves

I walked the wet sands, just beyond lapping waves
with every footstep, sincere prayer said that saves
morning sun was then rising, heart was beating strong
cool wind was blowing, hopeful and true dreams along
melancholy were the sounds as waves wet soft sands,
Heaven was beaming, its glory across the lands.

I walked the long day, future waving ahead
leaving behind sorrows, grabbing sweet live instead
orange sun was setting, each step a blessed gift
Nature began singing, soft prayers that so uplift,
never more the doubting or the deep aching pains
praising God by shouting, only true faith remains!

I walked the wet sands, just beyond lapping waves
with every footstep, sincere prayer said that saves.

    Chained sonnet:
Chained Sonnet is any sonnet that uses the poetic device of chaining.

The elements of the Chained sonnet are:

the verse is written in any sonnet form.
chained when the end word of the previous line is the first word of the next line.
flexible, at the poet's discretion, to bring the sonnet full circle the first word of the sonnet is the last word of the sonnet.

    Double Chained Sonnets

World, our existence, more than mere charades
charades of fantasy, dreams and parades
parades often growing beyond the pale
pale in reality, to pits of hell.
Hell born of deepest darkness, lies one rides
rides of vanities, sin of mortal prides
prides born of aching heart's truth deep inside
inside soul of man, its dark oft so wide.
Wide open arms, beseeching ever more
more pleasures, gold treasures, another score
score of greed, its ever increasing weight
weight and true measures, set by hands of Fate
Fate and world's alarm, ever sounding clock
Clock sounding, its hum of tick-tock, tick-tock!

    Face History Of Humanity's Plight

Hope in life's walk and better tomorrows
    tomorrows, dreams erasing sad sorrows
sorrows in marrows of decaying bones
bones too often broken by falling stones.
Stones and bloody cuts from great battles fought
fought in trenches, where mind and soul are caught
caught bleeding out heart's saddest of sad pains
pains beating woe'some fears, seeping dark stains.
Stains coloring ones journey through life's span
span of fleeting moments, gems cast to man
man within earthen realm, at its fast pace
pace of a journey and end each must face.
    Face history of humanity's plight.
Plight, mortality, dread of darkest night!

Love Fruits, Passion's Meals On Which I Once Sup

When I ponder my life, its fleeing years-
    Youth with its blessings and its cold dark fears;
Wandering through world and paths not taken
    Truth of the sorrows and those forsaken;
    Faint gaspings of romantic interludes;
    Treasures lost, unforgiving attitudes;
    Celebrating those small victories gained,
Savoring what true love in life remained.

Whispers searching soul once so gaily heard,
Morn's sweet call, with its warbling of songbirds,
Lessons learned from sorrows, pain's dark cup
Love fruits, passion's meals on which I once sup
    What life was, later what it came to be;
What finally made a good man of me.

In Youth, Oft Eyes Are But Dark Jaded Spheres

The Gods we adore in our youthful youth
Are just shadows we see before life's truth
In youth, oft eyes are but dark jaded spheres
That deny and guard against our deep fears
Wherein Life's stream veers in its steady flow
Bypassing so much mortals never know
As we journey into our fated fates
Choosing between light's truth and darken gates
Oft as a lost souls seeking that true path
Yet not seeing Time's decay and death's wrath
At mercy of forces as yet unseen
Never more than when racing on as teens
Those Gods laughing so loudly as we flail
Reveal they live within fires of Hell.

In Silent Hours, When Hope May Truly Touch

In that Silent hour, reflecting on life
Its bitter and sour, constant daily strife
That slow aching darkness of midnight black
Woes of destiny that throws us off track
Cast into swollen streams surging along
Weeping melody from life's sadder songs,
A stab, a cut against the growing pain
Loss, where we say never, never again!

In Silent hours, pondering sweeter gifts
Of Love, Friendship, Dawn's Glow that so uplifts
Dare we this thought thus gratefully embrace
We are all brothers, in this human race.

In Silent hours, when Hope may truly touch
Faith joins Love's power, when Life seems too much!
