Live Or Die, You Couldn't Do Both

Upon that dark ground, life was bloody and blue
all dark mists brought more than was due.
Dusty storms, blew about with black hands of Fate
lost as hurt seemed to escalate.

Within hidden shrouds, nights ate sad, dying souls
you cried within odd rhythmic rolls.
Never again, never again, your sworn oath
live or die, you couldn't do both.

Crying for rest on that spirit-eating ground
dancing along but with no sound.
Whenever that rare day's gleaming sun did shine
you grabbed it fierce, saying its mine.

Greatest of dreams was life would find saving lights
    hope shown, banishing blackest nights.

Where Nature's Beauty And Man's Design Meet

As bright red rose pierces with its sharp thorn
serves to remind, we are all mortal born.
So often pleasures of beautiful sights
counter the awaiting pains of dark nights.

Amidst color of flower garden's scene
arrive pretty birds to nest and to preen.
Each day fluttering to match garden's hues
which is the more beautiful, hard to choose.

Such beauty must be cultivated first
for it quenches soul's spiritual thirst.
Sunny days beaming under God's blue sky
we see growing treasures and beg the why.

Where Nature and man-made design there meet
gentle spirit finds life so very sweet.

When Thy Chains Are Too Heavy, Do Not Complain
(read of thy sins and weep)

When thy chains are too heavy, do not complain
for thy heart cried out for that slavish embrace.
Thou art in truth, as dark as is thy black stain
thinking thy greatness nobody can replace.

On devil's altar thou burned innocent life
and in arrogance praised thy unholy acts.
In deep blindness, ignored thy sins that were rife
with lies destroying pure innocence and facts.

Hidden in that dark shroud, thy beloved *pall*
casting cruel words, those that show thy intense hate.
Yet thy cruelty will bring on thy great fall
no human can escape crushing hands of Fate.

In empty chambers black soul, cries for relief
denied because thy treasures, only brought grief.

Keeps Me Young And On My Toes

Some may ask why I have not bit the dust
or found that cave to hide my sad sorrows.
I'm old but my mind has not turned to rust
nor do I fail to wish more tomorrows.

When in darkest night's long crawling shadow
my fighting spirit cries live on or bust.
You are no soft flower in a meadow
do as you may, dare to do what you must.

That moment, I see truth, joy and white light
a clarion call to hold the last fort.
Sun filled summer days and beams of moonlight
calm blue seas and old ships safely at port.

Some may ask, why do you write such deep woes.
I answer, keeps me young and on my toes!

This is Great, Robert, that your poems and sonnets are full of wisdom. I see that as a real Poet you let your thoughts pass through your Heart. Therefore they are so touching.

They That Passed In Honor Duty Bound

There, they in agony breathed their last
uniforms stained, bloody and war torn.
    Bullet sent or artillery blast
    war vanquished innocence, human born!

    Afterwards, brave deeds loudly denied
as tired nation revolted and screamed.
Where fled respect for brave souls that died
and tragically lost all they dreamed?

On battlefields man is but a pawn
lone feather cast into raging winds.
    Perhaps destined not another dawn
nor the great miracle true love sends!

They that passed in honor duty bound
will respect for them ever be found?

    Bitter Harvest Of Thy Wickedness

Thou hast slain thousands for that golden throne
Sleep in peace upon a silk laden bed.
Why now in old age, do thy dare to moan
In deep fear of ghosts of those murdered dead?

Are not thy treasure vaults filled to the brim
With stolen wealth from lambs of this dark world?
Yet thy black heart, feels the murder of him
And hot lightning bolt Heaven may soon hurl!

Triumph in destruction tis' bitter fruit
And thy wicked soul now sees the true light
Yet thou sprang from dark tree's most evil root
To try to bring forth never ending night!

Thou hast slain thousands for that golden throne.
Why now in old age, do thou dare to moan?

In Our Dream Comes Infinite Delights!

When gentle glow fades from thy pale-blue eyes
Gold amber from thy luxurious hair
Time's hurts will not have savaged thee too much
For me not to want to be with thee there.

My mind recalls gaiety in thy dance
Sight of thy deep beauty in party gowns
Our time living in soft sacred moments
Alive with bright smiles and no angry frowns.

I pray thee comes to me again in dreams
Silky flowing hair and beckoning voice
Calling seeking heart to flutter anew
And knowing for me lays no other choice!

Promise to seek me out on my sad nights
For in our dream comes infinite delights!

Shall I, Dare I, Just Call It Fate's Last Goodnight Kiss

Soft echoing rings, days past when souls sang in tune
Walks on sandy beach basking in moon's brightest smile
Hot embers flung from winter fires into June
I beg thee stay, if only for a little while

Thy sworn oath holds me in its deep, love promised grip
Remember fantastic nights of cherished wonders
Our love flowing in time with every candle drip
And those epic laughs had at my many blunders

Pray thee, for such golden treasures to long endure
Testament to romantic love that flourished so
Of all the many lost angels thou was most pure
Foolish and tragic that my blindness let thee go

Shall I, dare I, just call it Fate's last goodnight kiss
Another blunder for its thee, now I most miss

OK, so my "sonnet bug" bit me and had to bang one out today.--Tyr

Shining With A Beauty Beyond Compare

Angel came down, a soul to altar raise
before feet touched ground, soul healed with a gaze.
Shining with a beauty beyond compare
she lingered long, with all that saw her there.

Powdered gold shown on those wide beating wings
keeping good time with echoes as she sings.
Light reflecting off her emerald crown
compelling all standing there to fall down.

She rose fast, dutifully heaven bound
her leaving left, vacancy from no sound.
Vanishing beyond earthen woes and cares
beckoning forth all that in faith dares.

Angel came down blessing to altar give
witness of divine love to all that live.

It seems (as I feel) that something irrecoverable has happened...
Yes ,decades past and is soon to happen yet again my friend.

    The Poet's Words

The words came, and he wrote. In dreams by night
Labor and deep grief that ages gone were dead
    Stole from the past, and stood about his bed;
He sought no words; they came; he did but write.
When day was round him too, some vision bright
Or spark of glowing truth would glide between
The busy voices in a bustling scene,
Turning his heavy heart unto the light.
Whence came they? Were they gifts of long ago,
Like pansies growing on a pilgrim way?
Or but dim echoes of a vaster day
Whose harmony the happy dead may know?
That song eternal, that unwearied chime
Of seas that break around Isles of Time?

Caressing Virgin Soil, With Soft Caring Hands

In her garden, wearing old pants and her long tresses
caressing virgin soil, with soft caring hands.
Generous to a fault, kind heaven blesses
she a gem of far away Asian lands.

Dawn's early rays would sparkle in her eyes
as she rose to smile at the rising sun.
In her thoughts up and away she flies
to have herself some harmless wishful fun.

Landing between heaven and joy on earth
she would pray sweetest happiness for all.
Later with piety pray aloud for all her worth
remain silent waiting for return call.

Angel wanting others joy above her own.
ONE MORN, FOREVER AWAY SHE HAD FLOWN.
