Yes, I wrote yet another sonnet. My favorite form I have recently returned to for my own great pleasure..-Tyr

    Time Is An Eternal Book

Time is an eternal book with covers so worn
it embraces us even before we are born
Pages may be long and very deeply stained
sadly in this life so much is unexplained!

There are pictures of our infamous deeds
proof our our fruits and barbaric seeds
Times we refuse to help those in dire need
They were bountiful crops, we were the weed!

Yet recorded also our moments of victories
times we gave of ourselves and loved others
Life recorded complete with its mysteries
How nothing beats the love of our mothers!

Near the end we may see the spilt ink so bad
Yet know its too late and our future is sad!

    Robert J. Lindley, 07-23-2015

    Note- A Sonnet , a Message and a Truth..
edit- "spilt" is spelled in its common usage and form not a spelling error by the author.
18 U.S. Code § 2381-Treason Whoever, owing allegiance to the United States, levies war against them or adheres to their enemies, giving them aid and comfort within the United States or elsewhere, is guilty of treason and shall suffer death, or shall be imprisoned not less than five years and fined under this title but not less than $10,000; and shall be incapable of holding any office under the United States.

    My Life For Her All

Her eyes sent softest heart's yearnings
a candle flicker blowing in the wind
My mind filled with awe and great learnings
desired her and her only in the end.

Passion's arrows flew straight and very deep
wishes danced in glee within my weary head
Missing her kept me from good night's sleep
as her sexy visions swirled around my bed.

Dreams fed my ardor into hot fevered lust
she goddess of desire, now so dearly missed
Totally captured, it was her hand or bust
yet our love grew and we had not even kissed.

To be mine! She was destined to thus fall
I gambled everything, my life for her all!

Dare I, Own Up And Confess

Whispering shadows floating in the dark
Sound of laments ringing in their wake
Biting with wicked teeth so like a shark
seeking one lost and lonely soul to take!

Alarm clock wakes me from such a dream
yet bloodstains are at foot of the bed
How silly! All was not as it did seem
nightmares rage inside my old, aching head!

Rising to race quickly to the cold shower
stepped in a slippery, soft and warm mess
Blood on my feet, shows dreams have power
now the police demand I own up and confess!

Waking! My ankles shackled to these bars
Got a feeling, this dream going to leave scars!

    Robert J. Lindley. 08-15-2015

Note. A dark sonnet for a change.

Beauty Grows Roadside Flowers In May

Why worry about the vast dark terrors unseen
when man himself walks often as a raging beast
The beautiful peacock struts and does so preen
as rising sun shines its glory from the East.

Does not an eagle fly next to the shining Sun
where spirits unseen rest within its fire
Tempt the worst to better enjoy the very best
do not great poets love and so richly inspire.

Far above, stars and heaven exist, to look down
upon man's prideful loves, lives and affairs
So true! Far too many seek an undeserved crown
strut about in arrogance and prideful airs.

If truth be sought, such vanities race away
as sweet beauty grows roadside flowers in May!

Bravest Heart Stands Upon A Mountain High

When courage dares to prove it exists
Bravest heart stands upon a mountain high
Troubles reigning and evil turns to twist
When honor sets itself ready to fly.

Deeds little sung but princely overall
Ransom demanded so bravely in blood paid
Honor, loss paid by those hearing the call
Courage the test, death the ransom in trade.

Life singing holding truth of honest light
Where danger and pain are the highest cost
What bravery if not in great hard fight
Or great battle praised, if nothing is lost?

The brave living with hearts of golden souls.
    Sacrifices give admirable roles!

A Paradise Of Beautiful Wooded Seas

In that certain wilderness -There abides
An unyielding force to thwart pain.
Where misery fails and comfort resides
And life flourishes in Nature's gain!

Invisible hand- Firmly holds the keys
    And serenity there always prevails.
A paradise of beautiful wooded seas
Where moves Time and Age, slow as snails!

Softly the gentle hours float- Into Sky
As furry critters scurry all about.
Man invades and sometimes even asks why
"Are we made God"- with a futile shout!

Natures splendors dare to tell a tale.
About earth and sky- Heaven and Hell.

Stronger Dark Coffee Gifts Smelling Appeals

Presented thoughts, added fuel to cooking fires
No regard to irritating hot fans
In life we control our lustful desires
Add more grease to frying breakfast pans
Choose food with enchanted diligent care
Excellent butter graces such great meals
Let swollen hearts gift sweeter roses fair
Stronger dark coffee gifts smelling appeals.

    Oft' simple ingredients hold flavor
That life finds a feast too massive to eat
Cooking too long creates a hot fever
And burnt words blister poet's racing feet
But great rewards wait, a true believer
That admits not failure or sad defeat.

    Forested Serenity- Sonnet 1

Deep in the dark woods a campfire glows,
overhead moon and stars race in shows.
Owl hoots out its short mating call,
Nature's glory and its beauty thrills all.

    Woodsman enjoying his solitary retreat,
fire burning, his dog resting at his feet.
Just approaching midnight- the quiet hour,
light rain tinkles down in a cool shower.

Far away a panther lets loose angry call,
just announces its great power is all.
Overhead the owl flies out to get a meal,
so silently deadly so easily makes a kill.

Woodsman muses, "Ain't this the life."
Me this damn happy, even without a wife!

Such Dreams, Hold In Place My Grieving Heart

A gentle song in your voice, only I could hear
loving you my choice, losing my greatest fear
Grabbing that light coming from your soft eyes
was touching a rainbow in clear blue skies!

Your beauty, stream growing splashing flowers
my heart beating for our time, midnight hours
Your glowing soul, baby steps into my realm
your kisses given, my heart they overwhelm!

Memories tell me, you are still by my side
to hold these, your death my mind does hide
Some sweet nights, I feel your soft touch
those are the nights, I embrace so damn much!

Such dreams, hold in place my grieving heart.
Prayers begging, begging our love to restart!

With Mists Setting Imprisoned Souls So Free

Riverside shines bright in its pearly dew
touching epic beauty one must give thanks.
For dancing flowers soaked and very new
willow trees weeping along its soft banks.

Smooth flowing water moving right along
fish flopping to see the majestic scene.
Swirls in eddies sing a melodic song
colorful mallards splashing as they preen.

Slice of paradise, as fine as a gem
every moment the call of sweetest glee.
Nature, tis' both great symphony and hymn
with mists setting imprisoned souls so free!

As night fell, the brilliant sky it did glow
Nature just smiled, at fine but lesser show!

    Robert J. Lindley, 10-12-2015

Note- Another sonnet, this one describing a moment in time at
a very special spot from my youth.

    Forsaken Love

Dear lover, why hast thou forsaken me
my miserable life now cut in shreds
If only thee had instead set me free
love, no longer sharing our silkened beds

To what ending hath thou denied my love
with darkness cast into our sadden souls
Once our future sailed on so far above
any lost, mundane and unworthy goals

There were eternal sparkles in your eyes
touching that declareth our loving so true
Now blackness clouds into our lost skies
crying, my heart breaks into missing you!

How sad! That you dwelleth within the dark
Letting deceit erase our loving spark.

including Shakespeare's time. The previously plural "you" was used in the singular to signify
politeness and respect, which left "thou" and "thee" for all the other singular uses, ranging
from endearing intimacy to bitter rudeness. Eventually, the politer "you" drove out nearly all
uses of "thee" and "thou"; they survived mostly in poetry and religion.

If Memories Are Sifted When One Refines

Whenever you feel life is all vanity and doom
consider the deepest depths of true love.
Stop and consider, glorious flowers in bloom
matching epic beauty of the skies above.

For life shall always have troubles and woes
complete with sad miseries and dark days.
Remember, those great blessings life bestows
and treasures delivered in so many ways.

As years flow by and joy often comes around
be thankful for goodness that so shines.
A silver lining can almost always be found
if memories are sifted when one refines.

Darkness forever yields to greatness of light
Truth eternally supports what is always right.

Woodsman muses, "Ain't this the greatest life."
Me this happy, even without a wife!

No Reprieve For The Lost, Battered Soul

Night comes on, like a wolf after sheep
dark and ravenous, at a rapid pace,
    horrific shadow prevents peaceful sleep
grim echoes bounce all over the place.

Midnight hour, signals its coming call
evil whispers sing a death chant,
Candles burning low in the castle hall
gloom rises up to blackness enhance.

No retreat, this battle always rages
stabs and cuts both victims endure,
    Shields fallen, damnation then engages
bruised heart, this life remains impure.

No reprieve for the lost, battered soul
past sins, eat in deep, take their toll

    Robert J. Lindley, 09-03-2015

Note- Could not sleep, this sonnet started
and gnawed at me to finish it.
Past memories cry out to be satisfied...

    Deathless Aches, Heart's Desires

Thoughts of Heart are as mystical ships that traverse
Ranging amidst the restless ocean ways,
Their crimson prows surging through the sunrise,
Their golden sails adream in evening haze.

Thoughts of broken spirit wander sadly
    Unfriendly waters; raging, storm-shattered they roam;
Sea-reft their beauty, moaning all their music,
No haven dares to call them home.

Far sundered are their soundings, far diverging
Magic winds that sing their course,
For some may find the Hesperides, but others,
Those far, sad and dark islands of Remorse.

There they may safely harbor, dark as hell's morn
Awaiting in the cradle, where deathless aches are born!

    Robert J. Lindley, 10-13-2015

Sun Rose Merely To Reflect Her Glow

As her hair flew about, so did my heart,
unknown to me but a vision then loved.
So very strange, way our time got its start,
how she later became my beloved.

Glittering sparkles in her bright blue eyes,
as sun rose merely to reflect her glow
She that merely touched to fill my skies
always smiling as if time she could slow.

Her memory, shall I ever forget,
grace in her walking, sweetness in her voice
I first spoke to her on a friendly bet
now she would be my only loving choice.

Such glowing warmth in her big, bright blue eyes
Her being gone, left me asking the whys?

Magical Mountain Where Blue Cat Resides

Majestic mountain made of magic stone
I climbed every night as a lonely child.
Tall and regal, it stood there all alone
symbol of a world fantastic and wild!

Atop its peak in my racing night dreams
    looking across earth's fantastic skies.
Resting below, forests and flowing streams
bright, magical realm where blue cat resides.

Deep within each night's visionary quest
    prayer for family, sleeping nearby.
Brave climber daring his courageous best
fantasy and thrills on every night's try!

Magical mountain made of bluest stone.
Conquered by a child, made of flesh and bone!
