    Default Walking

I've been walking with 10k steps in mind. For 3 years I pretty much did this daily, at the gym. Needless to say by the end of the day it was more like 15k steps, with walking the classroom and chores. (Shopping at Costco and vacuuming burn steps!) Alas, when I couldn't do the gym anymore, I fell out of the routine. Months ago I started up again, fell back, now ready to go again.

I'm considering getting the Fitbit Charge HR. I have an old pedometer, but no watch or heart rate. I need a watch anyways...

Anyone use an activity monitor or smartwatch for same?

I've been taking some pics and getting off the beaten path, still so enjoying the nature of the Southwest. Here's some from this morning:

A park down the street about 1/4 mile. I'd already walked about a mile and half when I came here, this is the park I saw the wild pig in!

Saw some kids and parents had overnighted here:

    Caught a 'sword fight!'

Walked another few steps up the street to this trail:

I'm still in awe of cacti!

My wife was pondering getting one, or me getting her one, but she decided that the only thing she really needed was a stopwatch for timing her runs. The heart rate ones got pretty pricey IIRC.

I can hear that. I don't run though, LOL! I'm more concerned about high blood pressure-walking and swimming are my exercises of choice. I want to keep at 10k steps, which comes down to about 2 hours walking. The measurements reinforce me to keep at it. Mental more than anything.

Here's the one I'm pondering getting, though will likely get through Amazon-I get gift cards! LOL!

This review on Amazon, for the Charge, is close to selling me on it:

Her issue was that they just plain did more than she needed. She's happy with her $15 Timex.

I got a Fitbit a few weeks ago and do 10 to 27 K a day. When going for over 20 hurts a bit and get knee pain which keeps me up at night, like tonight. I have several goals, most may be wishful thinking - walking the Camino is one.

I did 18K, did enough to just get 9 miles yesterday and the knee was screaming. Last week I did 119K and was a few hundred shot of 120. I thought maybe I should keep a log and so as to do a few extra to get past a round number, if that makes sense. This week I know I won't get near 120K but will shoot for it next week. We'll see.

Walking good no matter what. But. It not about miles, steps, or hours. For max benefit you need walk brisk to get heart beating certain amount for at least 30 minutes. Longer the better. But if can no do that then just walk whatever. Anything better than nothing.

Understood. My first degree was in P.E. and did 21 in the army. I have a bad knee which probably needs replacing one of these years. I do what I can do. The left knee has been replaced so there's no running, just walking.

Well I'm up to walking about 15k per day with heart rate up. Another 10-12 from just the job, walking around the house, etc.

I actually found my old Omron Pedometer, it's still on Amazon too. LOL! Thing has to be 10 years old! Price and features it's between a basic stop watch and the least expensive fitbit. It does what I need.

Lol! Thanks fj for bringing this up. 7 years later, I'm averaging 19k per day. I've moved up to Samsung smart watch, sucker was $250+. It pains me to say it, worth it. Lol!

I would go insane without a watch. The would not allow us to bring a watch to PT in Drill Instructor School and it drove me NUTS. Bought a second one, took off the strap, and kept it in the postage stamp-size pocket in my PT shorts

Don't do the fitbit. Been curious a time or two how many steps I take chasing grandkids up and down stairs all day. Not curious enough to pay through the nose to find out. Try to walk 40 mins or run 20 daily. That wagon hasn't been consistent since before Christmas. These people will just not all go back to school at the same time. One's home today. Spring Break. The others had Spring Break last week
