Once he makes up his mind and makes his broad-based proclamations he won't allow himself to be introspective about his own views. He staked his identity on the conflicting ideologies of Thatcherism (governance) and conservatism (ideals) then he judges everything from that viewpoint. He decided I'm a leftie so no amount of evidence to the contrary, or lack of evidence to support for that matter, will divert him from that opinion.
