Potatoes. You can do so much with them. potato soup, scalloped potatoes.

I just made scalloped potatoes yesterday. They looked pretty much like this

    Oh and cheese.

Good point, Pixie. Not sure I ever met a potato dish I didn't like.

(Well, unless I have Drummond's chips and cole slaw, lol).

Maybe it's an Irish gene, but I've not met a potato cooked that I won't eat. LOL!

Yeah, Abbey.. I totally understand what you're saying about "Oh, but you haven't tried MY recipe!" I'm 44 years old and I know that I don't like to eat freshwater fish, no matter how it's prepared. Invariably when I tell someone that, they'll go into a 10 minute description of how I'm going to LOVE their fish. It's still fish, and I don't like it. I love Halibut because it doesn't taste like your normal fish.

Abbey I am not being a smart a$$ at all but as a vegan you do eat fish ? Is the lack of meat a health thing ? I always thought most didn't eat it because of the cruel way they are raised and slaughtered, to me fish would fit in there as well as say fowl, different kinds of vegetarians ?? Again I am curious not trying to be a smart a$$.

NT just riding by Little Caeser's makes me sick, and here in the south those $5.00 pizza's are popular.

I couldn't agree more with the pizza deal Kat, but rat burgers. nothing better than after drinking all night to see how many you can eat, come to think of it I don't think I could really tell you what they even taste like.

    Oh man, they are delicious!

You start with this (these are larger than normal) :

And you put them in hot water to pop the shell open, and clean them and you end up with this :

The idea is to rinse all of the sand out of them, otherwise you're crunching on sand in your clams... which is kinda distracting. You don't eat them on the half-shell because they have to be cleaned first, but fresh off the beach these are a slice of heaven!

The fun part to going clamming is watching the kids get as filthy as they want without getting yelled at. They love getting covered in mud/sand/water from head to toe, of course. They call them Razor Clams because the ends of the shell that point skyward when they're buried and you're digging for them (by hand) will cut you like a razor - they're very sharp. The trick is to scoop your hand in a direction from the beach to the ocean so your fingers go across the sharp edges instead of along them. The clams always position themselves flat-side-to-the-ocean standing up vertically when they're buried.

I haven't gone clamming in a few years... it's a lot of fun and worth the effort to get those tasty little fellas.

Not to mention how it often leaks onto the other foods on your plate. Disgusting.

Do you have an awesome recipe for Rainbow Trout or Salmon guaranteed to make me love fish??

That whole routine is pretty funny (after I'm done being irritated about it) and I've never seen it be successful yet.

If I do I don't know it because I don't eat any fish.... except for a tuna melt.

Yeah, a well-made tuna melt is pretty delicious, too. But again, those are saltwater variety.
