On Thursday Serena Williams beat Maria Sharapova for the 17th straight time. Serena obviously has Sharapova's number. But, according to Jason Whitlock, the reason Serena Williams regularly beats Sharapova is this:

Black athletes sometimes identify a white athlete or a white team that they feel represents the discrimination they felt in their life Serena Williams feels that way about Maria Sharapova. She's a representation of everything bad that has come along with being a black superstar in tennis from a very young age.

Later, in discussing Sharapova's increased earnings over Serena Williams in endorsements, Whitlock responded that it is because Sharapova is white.

Maybe it is because Sharapova is prettier?
