Some mine would be getting married both times, birth of children, becoming U.S. citizen, joining Army, taking parents on cruise through the Med, quinceaneras for daughters, high school graduation of kids, son and daughter accepted to college, family vacation to Fiji, parents 50th anniversary.

Perhaps this marks me out as a somewhat 'sad' individual ... but there are few things in life that give me a greater elevation of my mood than seeing our Socialists booted out of power, to be replaced by our Conservatives.

The other, recent, one ... was retiring from work. I was given the opportunity of writing something for our in-house publication, about my long service (which was censored) .. and at the head of it, was a photograph of me, standing just outside the staff entrance, punching the air in exultation.

I wish I had a copy of that photo. Still, I've a clear memory of it ... the memory itself is a source of pleasure ....

For most of my young life, I was dead set against having kids. When I got married and found out that I was unable to have kids, then I decided that I wanted one. Funny how that works.
Adoption is an incredibly complex and expensive process. Especially when you decide to adopt an older child. Because not only do you have to want the child, but the child has to decide that he/she wants you. And the agencies involved have to approve everything.
There are a ton of hurdles, but I found it to be extremely rewarding.

I am female. I might add that an overwhelming percentage of adoptions are of newborns. The older the child gets, the less likely he/she is to find a home. My daughter was 6 when my husband and I adopted her. She is now 14.
