I used to love the looks on my student's faces when I gave them the material on eugenics and included this case and Oliver Wendell Holmes' statement. They had no idea of the extent of eugenics in the US at that time. But to be fair it was big in the UK as well at that time. The medical profession in Germany under the Nazi regime was extremely enthusiastic about it and that was even before the Holocaust/Shoah.

And I'm sure you tell your students that Jews have been practicing eugenics for 3,000 years, through the practice of marrying the more intelligent to the more intelligent to create super-smart people, putting their mentally ill in solitude, rejecting outmarriage, slaughtering enemies in their midst, etc.

No I don't actually because I'm more interested in the fact that the law allowed and encouraged eugenics in the US and in Europe and a judge like Holmes pronounced the way he did. Do you know Irish Catholics were targeted by the eugenicists?

Re your links - your first one is by Frederick Tobin, the well-known Holocaust denier so I'd take anything I read there with a sack of salt.

I haven't got any personal experience beyond speaking to some survivors of the Holocaust/Shoah. I have to say I didn't discuss it at length or in great depth with them. But I have no doubt it happened. You see the tattoo on the arm of a Jewish woman in her eighties and it's difficult to ask too many questions in depth.
