Default Candidate For EU Membership Turkey Seizes Anti-Government Newspapers Before Election

Turkey who is a candidate for EU membership ruled by president Erdogan has seized two newspapers management by a prosecutor earlier in the week. The Bugun and Millet newspapers had their management seized on Monday after prosecutor said the group was laundering money to fund the Fethullah Gulen religious movement.

    Newspapers turn pro-government overnight:

On Friday 30th the new issue of the newspaper was released showing that it had turned into a pro-government newspaper featuring a picture of president Erdogan and AK party leader and acting Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu. Buguns editor-in-chief said by phone that "this is an attempt to silence free speech".

The ruling party (Justice and Development) is struggling to gain enough support to win in the upcoming general election scheduled to take place on November 1st. To many civil liberties and human rights activists this is an attempt by the government to silence critics and to increase positive coverage in the media in the hopes that they can win the election come November.

Turkey's NOT a nice place. I lived in Karamursel for 2 years. Turks aren't European. Why do they want in the EU?

I would not say want to join I would say that they are being made to join. But I am sure that there are those that would want to move into europe, as being a member of the EU allows you to move into any other nation of the EU and live there... so 75 million muslims have an open door to move wherever they want in Europe.

I'm all too aware of what they are. I can't stand Turks and make no bones about it.

I'd say you know them. You nailed THAT one. They think they're still running the Ottoman Empire.
