    Default Potd, given its own thread

    Chosen - Poem Of The Day (POTD),
    My poetry site today chosen was the collaboration
    poem, "APHRODITE" , that Teppo Gren and I finished a few days ago.
    I WROTE THE FIRST 8 VERSES HE FINISHED UP WITH THE CLOSING 6 VERSES.
    IT IS A SONNET, SONNETS ARE ONLY EVER 14 VERSES.

    Below is the poem and note as is posted at my home poetry site. -Tyr

    "APHRODITE"

    I flew to Olympus, to find its heart
    armor intact against Hades' dark wrath.
    At birth the power of light made its start
    as Homer's ghost sent me upon my path!

    Yet there I found only an empty throne
    where mighty Zeus in honor firmly reigned.
    So sad! For no lighted wisdom was shown.
    Such that grievous and blue, my heart was pained!

    The God of ancient Greece had lost its might,
    surrendered sacred glory, and his crown,
    Love destroyed at Aphrodite's first sight.
    No escape from pain; my heart’s sorrow drown.

    My fate was cursed by her passions lure,
    ashen remains of a heart once so pure.

    Robert Lindley & Teppo Gren ~ 29TH November 2015
    Form: Sonnet

    Note: Note: It was my great and sincere pleasure
    collaborating with my friend Teppo Gren on this poem.
    His contribution and poetic insight was truly amazing
    and concluding verses astounding.
    My friend, you have my sincere thanks.

    Our Midnight The Unseen Within
    ( Collaboration )

    Silent unto our sense, yet musical
    With eternal harmony, they move
    About our darkened vision, the beautiful ones,
    Angels of destiny.

    Pale with the dawn, sun-golden with the noontide,
    They mingle with our moments;
    There is no sadness that they do not share,
    No night they are not near.

    Even as flowers that scent the roving winds
    With fragrant incantations, - flowers unseen,
    That loose the largess of their beauteous dreams,
    Even so are they.

    Bequeathing endlessly for our delight
    The gifts we spurn, the secret revelations
    Would make us in our needless misery
    True kindred of the Soul,-
    ~~~ ~~~ ~~~
    A holy kiss to marry us with light
    These sheens where cherubins loose their waxxen wings;
    Shear the shadows where fear is oft found,
    And quell doubt like a startled imposter
    A righteous device to lead us home.....
    A wanton wind to soothe the wayward ails;
    A flame-cold but bright to illume every wan,
    We sleep unbeguiled, where angels tread
    What secret shadows skulk to maim?
    Strip our bones to sudden death?
    Move they winnowed and tarried -----
    Helpless to the winged, swift eye
    A keepsake (say many) beat of feather;
    Hope gives us peace in those hallowed hills,
    Where the angels sing like larks and cry a tear of love:
    (Our midnight)
    I was shocked to find this- our Collaboration poem that I posted there only yesterday was chosen this morn (this soon!) as Poem of the Day.. A great honor for both of us and I am sure Keith that will be happy when he sees that, as he visits there quite infrequently this last year.
    A truly exceptional poet he is and he primarily writes in classical style. -Tyr
    I Recall Mockingbirds Singing To Me
    I Recall Mockingbirds Singing To Me
    My life now so far away in the past
    resting back in that glowing red sunset;
    in lost memories where dreams always last
    wishing for lost time, I can never get.
    As fading shadows dance in bonfire's glow
    I recall mockingbirds singing to me;
    precious gifts such memory plants to sow
    so like seeds dropping from big red-oak tree.
    My eyes filled with falling tears, my soul sees
    far beyond, well past my mind's window sills;
    Green forests in my life with their lost trees
    resting back there, lasting memory hills.
    As my life now sends me yearning anew,
    images parading forth, treasures so true!
    Chose today as -Poem of the Day, at my poetry site.
    This poem written so many "centuries"...... ago..-TYR
    You Steal My Beauty To Heart With Glee
    Clear night sky once told me to yield
    Hold your horses and be quite still
    You are but a dot in a dirty brown field
    Certainly nothing to give others a thrill.
    Now go lay in a moonlit cave
    head bowed and heart seeking relief
    Give thanks for what I gave
    and seek mercy for you are a thief.
    You steal my beauty to heart with glee
    yet return not praise and glory my way
    Yes, you love deep what you see
    but fail to ever give me proper pay.
    What could I say facing such true accusations?
    I simply bowed my head and gave sincere salutations.
    R.J. Lindley
    Spring, 1971
    Note- From my private journal. Written two years after my father's death.
    I often wandered out into that barren brown field late at night to gaze at the vastness of the universe and ask why he was taken from me...
    Soon with no satisfactory answer, I turned to hating the world with vengeance in my heart that continued for 18 long and painful years ..
    This was a shocking and peasant surprise for me to find this morn..
    Another Poem Of The Day, awarded my poem, by the top poets and administration at my home poetry site... -Tyr
    When Darkest Of Blues Will Not Stop Pounding
    Standing atop this high cliff, clouds floating on by
    Watching last sunset, red-tint paint splashing blue sky
    Now finding life, has stooped to beat me up again
    Despite my deep courage, embraced through thick and thin
    No honor felt in this lost state I am at
    Broken wrangler with no horse, no damn cowboy hat
    Just a dying soul, trying to live to hold on
    Now that the beauty of life's colors have all gone
    Weeping into winds once found to be clear and fair
    Missing that love, only mother and child can share
    Glancing down, life and earth seems so damn far below
    So many exits, yet I have nowhere to go
    Standing atop this high cliff, clouds floating on by
    Watching last sunset, red-tint paint splashing blue sky
    Robert J. Lindley, 2-17-2017
    Note; One day gleaming sun does so shine. Next day it hides and laughs in wicked glee.
    There is now a huge hole in me. I wish to drown, in the next storm in this dark, raging sea.
    THE DEEPEST DEPTHS OF EPIC PAIN
    The scars of life unveil the weight of lies,
    lest it be the torment of moral sin,
    wherein the guiltless suffer wounds and cries
    of love’s deceit as heartless notions win.
    The evil whims of wicked fancy shows
    no mercy for those crossed by hands of fate
    when magic dreams are cast by darkened clouds
    which turns the morbid sorrow into hate.
    In rage of fervor, passions zeal is lost,
    oft destroyed by life's dire tribulations,
    as sunning rays vacates dawn's gleaming frost
    human frailties blind truth's revelations.
    Within hope destroyed and life's darkest stain
    remains the deepest depths of epic pain.
    14th March, 2017
    T.J Grén & Robert Lindley
    I was inspired to write this sonnet after reading Robert Lindley’s sonnet “Leave This Sad heart, I Can Take No More Pain” and his notes on the sonnet. Due to the inspiration I received from his beautifully written sonnet, I asked Robert to write this sonnet in collaboration with me. I was much honored to work with Robert to complete this poem. Thank you very much, Robert. It is always a great pleasure to work with you.
    Ah my friend so often I hear the refrain: "Act In Haste, Repent At Leisure." We have to make sure mind is in gear before putting any thought into action. It's like dropping a pebble in a puddle. The rings that develop from that single act spread out and keep getting wider as new rings form. Cause and effect in action. Great job here. God Bless and a big 7 from me. JB
    Thank you, Richard. As soon as I read Robert's note "the deepest depths of epic pain" I knew I had to write a sonnet with that title. T.J
    Sir Poet, Hold True To Thy Gifts Long Given
    Sir Poet, Hold True To Thy Gifts Long Given
    Sir poet, why hast thy broken thy true pen?
    Are not thy words intended to help and heal?
    Pray thee, returneth to world of gentle men,
    Let both thy mind and fevered blood softly spill!
    Sir poet, why hast thy burned thy greatest writes?
    Are not thy word-gifts bearing much needed fruits?
    Pray thee, this sad, dark world sees thy ink-bright lights,
    Begs thy kind soul return to poetic roots!
    Sir poet, write deep to heal thy wounded heart
    Embrace yet again, thy soul's truest call to arms
    Find thy calling, begin an earnest restart,
    Seek thee to help not this rash act that so harms.
    Sir poet, hold true to thy gifts long given
    Join again, poet's rewards in true liven'.
