Isn't this snide comment / reference to the Express's great support for Princess Diana (this for the benefit of American readers !) just a little .. well ... OLD .. ?

Still, I take the view that polls needn't have any relation to actual REALITY. Remember ... all, absolutely all, polls predicted that we'd have a hung Parliament at Westminster in the 2015 election. Instead, nobody at all, except the BBC on the day of the election (!) managed to get to grips with the truth of it .. a majority Conservative Government !!

Putin as PM .. ? H'm. I wonder how many Brits would've wanted him to annexe Crimea ? And imagine Parliament, being just summarily TOLD that Assad would get the fullest military support possible ! [.. How Corbyn would've enjoyed that one !]

If the British public have a taste for a latter-day Hitler, I can see how they'd want Putin. But of course, they'd want no such thing. They might like his decisiveness, but would they like where it leads ?

Putin exudes strength. He is bold and brash. And is leading the world since Obama won't. I am surprised at 88%, but not surprised he is popular.

The UK has been altogether more Socialist for decades. David Cameron is our Conservative PM .. but even he believes in, and fights for, things that American Socialists would identify as 'causes' dear to THEIR hearts.

Gay marriage comes to mind. Then again, he claims to 'love' our NHS (which we've had ever since 1948) .. its being a far more hardline, State-run entity than even Obama dreamed of instituting.

I daresay that Brits would find ways to identify with Putin .. though his dictatorial, evidently power-mad ways, I think they'd balk at if they ever had to be subjected to them. Certainly our own Left would, crazy as it might seem ....

Agreed - 88% is really pushing it. On the one hand, I think they'd see Putin's no-nonsense and decisive style as a breath of fresh air. On the other ... some of what he stands for would definitely get staunch opposition. Way too dictatorial, too power-mad, too nationalistic ..
