    Default RSS Feed

I had a member ask me about adding the RSS feed for the board to his Google home page as he couldn't find it. That's because I apparently never enabled RSS for the board!

Anyone ever interested in the feature can now use it. This is the appropriate URL to use for your feed:

    http://www.debatepolicy.com/external.php?type=rss2
“You know the world is going crazy when the best rapper is a white guy, the best golfer is a black guy, the tallest guy in the NBA is Chinese, the Swiss hold the America's Cup, France is accusing the U.S. of arrogance, Germany doesn't want to go to war, and the three most powerful men in America are named "Bush", "Dick", and "Colin." Need I say more?” - Chris Rock

    What's an RSS Feed?
“… the greatest detractor from high performance is fear: fear that you are not prepared, fear that you are in over your head, fear that you are not worthy, and ultimately, fear of failure. If you can eliminate that fear—not through arrogance or just wishing difficulties away, but through hard work and preparation—you will put yourself in an incredibly powerful position to take on the challenges you face" - Pete Carroll.

Could be, but doesn't have to be Google. There are literally hundreds of ways to read RSS feeds. It's a way of having "news" delivered to you without having to visit specific sites. If you have an RSS reader in your browser, you can get the latest news/posts right on one page without having to even visit whatever site it is you're interested in. Whenever a page is updated, the RSS "feeds" it to those subscribed.

That link to Wikopedia said there is no entry for RSS. Does anyone on here know what RSS is and can they please explain it?

Sorry, didn't realize that link was broken, here's a good one:

I was successfully able to get an RSS feed from Debate Policy to my Google Homepage.

For those who have a Google Home Page, here's how:

    1. Go to your Google home page (http://www.google.com/ig?hl=en)
    2. Click "Add Stuff" (on the upper right hand corner of the page), this will take you to the page that allows you to add content to your page
    3. Click on the link "Add by URL", this will take you to a page with a text box labelled "add by URL"
    4. enter "http://www.debatepolicy.com/external.php?type=rss2" into the box, then press "Add", after a few seconds, the message "Added http://www.debatepolicy.com/external.php?type=rss2" appears on the page.

For those with a "My Yahoo Page"... go to http://my.yahoo.com/

    1. On the lower left hand side of the "My Yahoo Page" there is a box that reads "Find Content", right below it is a link that reads "Add RSS by URL", click on that link. You'll be taken to a page that has a text box that reads "Add RSS by URL"
    2. Enter "http://www.debatepolicy.com/external.php?type=rss2" in the box, click the "add" button, you'll be taken to a page that reads "Add Debate Policy on My Yahoo"
    3. Click the button that reads "Add to My Yahoo"
    3.

RSS stands for "Really Simple Syndication"... it's a format for streaming data from websites to your browser using a format known as "XML" (extensible markup language), which is much like HTML, the format used to format web pages, such as this one. You can think of RSS as being something like streaming audio or streaming video, but instead of music or pictures, it's for web content.

Wikipedia does have an article on RSS

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RSS

I think Jim must have mistyped the URL .
