A Christian health worker in the NHS has lost her appeal against a ruling which suspended her for giving a religious book to a Muslim colleague.

Victoria Wasteney, 39, was found guilty in 2014 by her employer, the East London NHS Foundation Trust, of "harassing and bullying" a work friend.
She had given her a book about a Muslim woman's encounter with Christianity and asked her to church.
Miss Wasteney said she had "no idea" she was upsetting her.
Working as a senior occupational therapist at the time, Miss Wasteney, who also prayed with her colleague, was suspended for nine months and given a written warning.

    Appeal dismissed
Her colleague had reportedly been happy to discuss faith with her and had not given evidence about her allegations to the NHS.
She challenged the decision at an employment tribunal last year, but it ruled her employer had not discriminated against her.
A judge gave her the chance to appeal against that decision, saying it should consider whether the original ruling correctly applied the European Convention on Human Rights' strong protection of freedom of religion and expression.
But Judge Jennifer Eady QC dismissed the appeal on Thursday.
Following the decision, Miss Wasteney, from Epping, Essex, said: "What the court clearly failed to do was to say how, in today's politically correct world, any Christian can even enter into a conversation with a fellow employee on the subject of religion and not, potentially, later end up in an employment tribunal.
"If someone sends you friendly text messages, how is one to know that they are offended?"

    Another stellar posting !

Again .. this illustrates where voting Socialists into power gets you. In the UK, we've had several decades' worth of Socialism (off and on) emanating from Governmental level. As more efforts are poured, by them, into creating restrictive 'PC' attitudes, so freedoms ARE LOST. Tyr has shown us an especially heinous example of how this develops.

There are those who, to follow 'matters of principle' say they'll not indulge in voting for a candidate they happen not to like .. BUT, in doing that, they are content to effectively give over increased voting power to the Socialist opposition. Well -- Socialists have their very long-term agenda, all of it helped by whatever time they can have in power.

You want this sort of prejudicial, freedom-crushing status quo to become the norm in YOUR country ? Then ... refuse to look at the bigger picture, and ALLOW your freedom to be a Christian country taken away from you.

    It's ultimately that simple !!

This is where even I draw the line. For an evangelical Christian, Muslims are a mission field. I don't support doing anything to a Muslim that a reasonable person would consider offensive, but if they are allowed to practice their religion, I'm allowed to practice mine. In corporate America, it's not a Human Resource violation to offer religious literature to coworkers. It is however a violation to insist once they refuse. I have offered Christian leaflets to Hindu and Muslim employees and none have been refused so far. If you don't want your religion interfered with, don't interfere with mine. Evangelism is a key tenant to Christian evangelicals. If exchanging leaflets with a Muslim at least causes them to read about salvation through Jesus Christ, I will read about Allah.

This is how it is going in our world today. The courts and the media operate mostly according to who has the "victim" status. Christians are considered the "anti-victim" religion, as in they can be accused of anything and immediately be presumed guilty, all because the courts and media think that Christians have had an easier time of it for a while, and it's time for some makeup calls. Whites are the "anti-victim" race, men are the "anti-victim" gender (although women may become anti-victims soon too, in favor of transgender), and hetero is the "anti-victim" sexual orientation.

I guess the courts and media just get this warm and fuzzy feeling all over every time they do something like this. They feel like they're somehow righting wrongs that occurred in the past. I just hope they all get some kind of poetic justice in the end.

Certianly seems harsh that she got fired, but given the other woman left her job because of this womans actions there may be more events and details than would seem apparent from the OP.

Certainly the woman gave the muslim literature on converting to christianity, touched and prayed with her, brought up going to her church multiple times - thats all we really know, how sustained and the details of these convos are unknown and are the primary factor.
If you also agree that an animals suffering should be avoided rather than encouraged, consider what steps you can take.

The woman was not forced to take the offered literature, nor forced to convert to another religion.
All Victoria Wasteney did was witness to a fellow worker-- and for that a court punished her while in essence saying no other religion or its followers can freely witness their faith to a muslim.
It essence the court just declared Islam as the top and dominate/preferred religion while ignoring the freedoms of religious expression by other religions (primarily the Christian religion)!!

This reminds me of the "war on Christmas" in this country, where various sects of non-Christians militantly oppose hearing the words "Merry Christmas" or seeing any overtly Christian Christmas displays, and the courts and the media go along with them.

I think the whole thing is stupid and I completely agree with your assessment on victim/anti-victim status. It's a damned crock.

It wouldn't even be in the news. Kicking a Christian off an airplane for being Christian is completely legal. I refer you to the OP. Now imagine had I thrown a little hissy fit when people in my life offered me a look at Bushido, Zen, the Catholic Church ... nobody'd listen. Let someone offer Christianity and it's an excuse to cry foul. Why people have to act like that are beyond me. I'm not a Buhddist but I didn't think they were going to destroy my life offering me a different POV>

We don't have the context of what took place other than a few sentences, which isn't rearly enough to make a judgement either way on a case of harassment.

Meanwhile, a Muslim could walk into a cafeteria, stand on a chair and start screaming "Allahu Ackbar" and tell the infidels that they will die and muslims will dominate the world. That speech will be protected, so as not to insult the fuckers and their angry religion.

None of us were there, we really don't have any idea how it all went down.
