    Default Interesting reading

I have been reading a book called Pharmageddon by David Healy. It should be required reading for every physician and indeed every consumer of health care. He makes a huge case against the way modern medicine has been subverted by the manipulations of giant pharmaceutical concerns. The book is definitley worth the read but if you want a summary sort of article, try this :

Anyone contemplating a new prescription by their physician should be very wary. Just because the drug is recommended by so called guidelines doesn't mean it is the best choice. I will not be taking cholesterol drugs because my "number" is too high. I will not switch to a newer drug because it is newer. And I will thoroughly research any new med before putting a dose in my mouth. We are all vulnerable to the problems discussed in the book.

Indeed. My husband had a fairly severe reaction to an antibiotic. Never saw that coming.
