    Default Guitars For Vets (Guitars4Vets.Org)

This is an organization that has some guitar lessons and jams for vets. You go through their program instruction and get a guitar. Visit their website and see if they have a chapter in your area. The one by me is in Rockford, IL at the VA Clinic although I haven't been there yet. There's a meet and greet in Freeport this Tuesday, 26th July at Logan's Bar, an open mic night, I'm going to try and make that.

Also, if anyone needs guitar songbooks and sheets in PDF or videos and stuff, I collect that or can direct to online resources. I also have songbooks for bass, ukulele, and a few things for piano and harmonica, dulcimer, banjos, mandolin. I also know of a lot of free online resources for stuff.

I'll pass it along to my brother. He's got a bunch of guitars and has been playing since we were kids (early 80's). I think it's a good idea to put the music - and the vets together. Music can be very therapeutic, whether playing the guitar, or even just listening to music.

My fingers are too short and thick to play a guitar...tried it...no go!

But I do like listening to a good acoustic guitar...be it 6 or 12 string.
I have lost my mind. If found, please give it a snack and return it?

Been able to pick guitar since I was about 12. My grandfather always told me "Boy, when you can wrap yore fingers round tha neck, I'll teach you".

I don't know how to play an electric. I have a Martin D-28.

I just recorded this on a Les Paul into the computer mic fed into Audacity, so it sounds like an old AM radio. It's an E Blues for about 30 seconds, something that Blind Melon Chitlins might have done.

I got a question or two. And a couple points. Guitars for which vets? The ones here, or overseas? We got enough junk to haul around without a guitar hanging off the pack.

I also have to ask do y'all ever ask the vets what they want? I realize the intentions are good, but don't send cookies. They end up as crumbs.

What's worth its weight in gold is powdered Gatorade. Instant coffee. Pictures from home.

I'm just wondering about the arbitrary. I'm left handed. You hand me a stock guitar guess what?

Yeah but they look pretty stupid with the pick guard over the top.

They have weekly lessons, then they have things like monthly jam sessions. It's for vets not service members. I've only been to this open mic and met some folks, but you take lessons for a while, then they give you an acoustic guitar.

What's the difference between a service member and a vet? I thought we were all the same. My point is why don't you take the guy/gal out to dinner. I was the only guy in my company that could pick guitar. We ALL knew how to eat.

Is that an invitation to buy me dinner? I accept.
