    Default July in AK

Been pretty busy the last month or so, with a glorious 2-week stretch up at the cabin.

A few shots driving down to Kenai to help out a friend :

At the top of Turnagain Pass :

And at my friend's house, right in downtown Soldotna. It's for sale, highest offer... so far the bidding is up to $650k. The beauty to this property is that's the Kenai River, a world-class fishing destination and they have grandfather rights to a dock on the river - these days you'll get pistol whipped for building one.

Anyone know anything about old coins? This is supposedly a Spanish coin from the days of Armadas from South America.

Friends of my sister came up from New Jersey and I took them fishing... at a creek below the cabin. Nice little Rainbow.

Steve got his first Salmon a few minutes later here at Clear Creek.

And then one morning, I headed up to the cabin for a couple weeks!

Nice hot coffee, the fresh smell of the river, the roar of the 302... mornings just don't get any better.

Riverboat freighting - all the lumber needs to get hauled up ASAP. That's about 1800# in mine and 2000# in my son's boat.

Joe and I installed flooring in the kitchen - this was a fun project that only took a couple of hours.

So the older guy from New Jersey told his kids about the fishing trip I took him on, and he asked if I'd take the 4 of them up. Really a nice family.

Annnnd... then the Reds started running. Hard.

That was right about the time that all upgrades on the cabin came to a screeching halt.

So, the river started flooding, and the water level came up substantially. I was thinking on the way up that I didn't want to park it down in the normal spot, instead just hammering up and drop off-step in the sweet spot right in front of the cabin, safe and secure.

I won't bore you with what happened, but this is the result.

    Yep, I fucked up!

It only took about 5 minutes to push her back in the water with the King Quad 4-wheeler. No harm, no foul!

God you have the life Rick. Maybe I'll start flooding you with resumes in the hopes of networking a new life
“… the greatest detractor from high performance is fear: fear that you are not prepared, fear that you are in over your head, fear that you are not worthy, and ultimately, fear of failure. If you can eliminate that fear—not through arrogance or just wishing difficulties away, but through hard work and preparation—you will put yourself in an incredibly powerful position to take on the challenges you face" - Pete Carroll.

And an AC/DC Fridge! This runs off the batteries fed from the solar panels and it keeps up with the half-amp draw this puts on the system.

Free 'lectrics! Sharon was mighty happy with this project.

This damn picture insists on being sideways... maybe I can get Jim to rotate it. I forget how to get around that.

And a new screen door at the back of the cabin for those hot days :

And then, as we were up fishing at Disappointment Creek, a 300# Black Bear jumped in the river right above us and swam to the other side.

I was wondering if he was going to make it, because he finally got out of the river about 100 feet above the rapids... and that's some pretty gnarly whitewater.
