The cat doesn't seem to know that it's me creating that red dot to chase, but the dogs do. The dogs will see me take down the laser pointer off the key rack and immediately start looking for that red dot to chase... it's pretty funny.
I accidentally knocked my son off his feet with the German Shepherd in hot pursuit of the red dot a while back as he was coming out of the bathroom and I was running the dogs down the hallway in hot pursuit - they didn't see him in time and knocked him on his ass. His feet were literally pointed at the ceiling from the impact in midair. Whoops!
The Jack Russell we have is amazingly clumsy. I discovered this right after we got him and he was chasing the dot & I ran it across the room and up the wall, expecting him to skid to a stop and stare at the dot like a normal dog would do. Nope! He hit the wall at max speed, did a backflip on the rebound and landed on his back. Scared me because I thought he hurt himself... but he was fine, just extremely embarrassed.
