Let Me Die A Youngman's Death - Poem by Roger McGough

Let me die a youngman's death
    not a clean and inbetween
    the sheets holywater death
    not a famous-last-words
    peaceful out of breath death

    When I'm 73
    and in constant good tumour
may I be mown down at dawn
by a bright red sports car
    on my way home
    from an all night party

    Or when I'm 91
    with silver hair
and sitting in a barber's chair
    may rival gangsters
    with hamfisted tommyguns burst in
and give me a short back and insides

    Or when I'm 104
    and banned from the Cavern
    may my mistress
catching me in bed with her daughter
    and fearing for her son
cut me up into little pieces
and throw away every piece but one

Let me die a youngman's death
not a free from sin tiptoe in
    candle wax and waning death
not a curtains drawn by angels borne
'what a nice way to go' death

    by Roger McGough

Don't Let Me Die A Young Man's Death

Let me live healthy a century more
not hard decades filled with old age and pains
not as sad, ungrateful angry old bore
nor even man of wealth and stolen gains
just a death that casts me through that last door.

When I have made my seventy-five years
may I not be fried by a lightning bolt
one that is so hot that it burns up tears
not one from pale sky with too weak a jolt
nor a death so quick it destroys my fears.

When ninety, let sleep not take me away
may I be in my youthful dreams of love
those so hot that they scorched coldest of days
not those with large monsters flying above
not death so strong, it destroys coming day.

When I am hundred and five, send not this
a ninja clad in black with sharpest blade
or a poisonous snake with silent hiss
one certified by instant deaths it made
nor death so fast, I feel not its last kiss!

When I am at one hundred sixty-five
may invisible hand remove my head
if time has passed and I am still alive
by hand of Fate, make sure I am true dead
just a sure death, one so richly contrived.

Brightest Of Gems, In Glowing Emerald Forest

There was a great tree there, its roots firmly planted
as solid as love vows, those never recanted,
its massive trunk and limbs, majestic to behold
beautiful treasures, as in tales oft retold
surrounding woods, a glimmering emerald green
all in all, as if from a bright fairy tale scene.

To visit, watch dawn's lights set it colors aglow
is to see Heaven and Nature's truth, clearly know,
our lives are wrapped in fragile, weakened human states
chained cells of wants, each one praying its not too late
seeing evidence of Heaven's stamp upon earth
giving promises of better life, ones own worth.

To find such peace basking in its soft healing touch
one should kneel down to pray, requesting not too much,
for Heaven's light flows forth from that massive, tall king
from its branches, flocks of glorious birds oft sing
within its cools shades, its living colors send out
proof of God's glory, that cause believers to shout.

Her Softest Kiss, Gentle Warmth It Sent Me

Am I dreaming, I was once bold and young
life was a new joy, great was romance sung,
morn's birthed hot memory of night before
rubies, gold cast upon every shore.
Her bright smile, this soul rejuvenated
by her night charms had invigorated.

I fallen warrior from love's battlefield
just barely alive, refusing to yield,
will red sun bring on saddest doom and gloom
as echoes sing, come now enter this tomb.
Once her love, gave me strength to death resist
as in love's deep ardor I did enlist.

Am I now able to leave bloody soil
rejoin former life with its boring toil,
or hold dear her touch from dreams that renew
to remember her true words, I love you.
Her softest kiss, gentle warmth it sent me
love, desire to never from it be free.

Am I dreaming, I was once bold and young
life was a new joy, great was romance sung,
morn's birthed hot memory of night before
rubies, gold cast upon every shore.
Her bright smile, this soul rejuvenated

    Note :
I decided to write a romantic poem today and this one is based upon
a very sweet memory of a very beautiful and sweet girl I once dated.
Sadly life got in the way, its pull on me to be wild and roaming
caused a split. She told me, if we split now, I will never take you back
and she kept her word on that. I plead guilty to losing her due to my
wild ways and search for ever more beautiful girls to date. When young
one thinks there is always more to be had! Thus oft throws away
precious treasure seeking that ever elusive, "more and more"..

God Of Smite, Why Such Savage Blows

God of Smite, why such savage blows
    sent with bone-crushing epic pains
Could not sweet mercy now be shown
    allow dignity in remains?

God of Silence, why smite this soul
with morbid airs and broken pen
Was not this poet's heart thus made
to send word-gifts to mortal men?

God of Stormy Winds, why blow now
with storms that destroy greater dreams
Should not greater wrath be delayed
give Fate and Death more time to team?

God of Mercy, why are you hid
I have not seen you, since a kid?

Thank you my friend. A lot of truth and deep poetic heart went into that new piece...
I myself, am eagerly awaiting your new presentation of one of the new forms from the link I gave to you , Senryu, Tanka or Lune.
I am hoping for a Tanka.
As I am confident and fully expect a true and shining gem to come forth from your poetic pen regardless of which form you may chose to create in.
Feel free to send me any questions or concerns you may have, if any and I'll do my best to help in any way that I can..-Tyr

The One Great, Constant And Faithful Prayer

I will not walk that dire path, its false trail
midnight curse brings its wrath, its heart-cut ways
into cavernous pits of hottest hell
where high flames of sin burns a million ways!

I'll not follow dark world's eager parade
its gluttony of perversion and sin
within heart's truth, far better days are made
I accept not those false coins made of tin!

I shall invest in love's deepest embrace
dancing along with its resplendent tune
for greatest blessings come with faith and grace
eternal death's cost, faithful are immune!

Pray I. His Loving Light will shine the way
And in Heaven's fold, I forever stay.

Our Love That Once Rivaled Illuminating Sun

Was your light dead, its glow destroyed by dark
Your eyes blinded, and our romance cast aside:
Twas this, dark thought of loss, that I have died,
That you dared to treat our great love as a lark,
In your longing heart that my soul did deep entwine
Each one of its chambers I filled with my all,
Yet such abundance could not prevent our fall
Now upon its poison we both must feed and dine.
Our love that once rivaled illuminating sun,
Gardens set in paradise, in their fullest bloom:
We unaware, evil rests not until it brings on doom,
To slayeth love, all its treasures thus be undone,
Woe to us, our time was but a brief, dying dream,--
Our sweet songs vanishing as glistening of dew,--
Not enough, such true words said, "darling, I love you",
Dark of Fate's weeping gasp, birthed its dying scheme.

This My Heart Cries Out, Is But A Sad Song

I shall drinketh not of Life's poison draught
Nor when famished, yield to its pleading thirst
Of Hope, goodness in Life, I was this taught
    What ego so swells, it will also burst;
As man walks in darkness his steps faltered
In that weaken heart, black enters and grows,
He becomes a horse so firmly haltered
It rests between death's first destroying rows.
This my heart cries out, is but a sad song-
Man is a creature doomed to his demise,
He walketh edge of abyss, helped along
By each tempting lust evil can devise.
When sorrows demand, I death must embrace
I speaketh true,- "nay, such is a disgrace"!

Sweetest Of Moans, From Her Desirous Lips

Sweetest of moans, from her desirous lips
echoes night's glory, its fruits partaken
we had collided as love seeking ships
that each, our sad pasts, we had forsaken.

With cargo born, heart's resplendent fires
our search, with its sweetest treasures thus found
gave us cause to join love's hottest desires
and with fervor beg for chains to be bound.

Now in paradise berth, we each swore all
of deep passions to entwine in love's grip
fighting this hard world, united stand tall
swearing to never let true romance slip.

Docked and riding such sweet and peaceful waves.
We gave thanks, to a Love that truly saves.

As My Bare Feet Felt Cold Of Hoary Frost

As my bare feet felt cold of hoary frost
I wandered the back pasture dazed and lost
Night had sent me into a sad dawn's grasp
Waking to horrors I let out a gasp
Sun sat silent and dark in a harsh sky
Its broken heart one would surely deny

Echoing wind summoned courage to blow
Set willing flowers to put on a show
In each dance they swayed back and forth in time
I could almost hear steps in perfect rhyme
Sun sat silent and dark in a harsh sky
Its broken heart one would surely deny

As Heaven found my horrid plight a loss
It vowed to teach Nature it is the boss
With a snap that old dark sun did bright shine
In a wink brought smile to this face of mine
Sun was gleaming proud in jubilant sky
Its swift repaired heart none could deny

Arise, Let Heart Dance Unto The New Hour

Arise! Let heart dance unto the new hour
The raindrops become your morning shower
Day calls for embracing its mysteries
Seeing truth, to write your own history!

Fill your cup with sweetest of tasty wine
Upon the rising bread of life thus dine
Walk out into this world both bold and brave
Live love true, more than your own, you can save!

Allow summer's cloak to heal any pains
Wipe away hurting, the darkest of stains
Seek to steer your path onto light and Love
Open blind eyes to see heaven above!

As red sun sets, rejoice in your great life
Take note of the new vacancy of strife
Embrace the gift of mercy and new lease
Acknowledge your new journey, its release!

Arise! Let heart dance unto the new hour
The raindrops become your morning shower
Day calls for embracing its mysteries
Seeing truth, to write your own history!
