One By Design, The Other By Mere Chance

In valley of dying echoes, low moans
    slow gasps, with silver inlaid overtones;
lives two rivals, infinite powers each,
both waging their wars, to mortal man teach.

Time and Fate, each destroying with dark glance.
One by design, the other by mere chance.

Mortal life, chained to such powerful foes
    man seeing such truth in his dying throes;
coming into this evil realm to die,
with hope to someday into heaven fly.

Time and Fate, each destroying with dark glance.
One by design, the other by mere chance.

Walking through life, in a crawling blind trance
    searching for more, for life saving romance;
while days and nights in sad flurries sail on,
man wallows and sings in a grievous tone.

Time and Fate, each destroying with dark glance.
One by design, the other by mere chance.

Epitaph Of My Old Friend, An Honorable Man

He wore not great riches nor riding cloak,
Yet stood tall and regal as mighty oak,
No haste of greedy sweat fell from his brow,
worldly wealth was to him no sacred cow:
His enemies found he knew not retreat
Yet he was a pleasant fellow to meet
He had an inner force, massive power
Stood against world, like a castle tower.

As mighty oak he withstood stormy winds
Found joy with his close neighbors and dear friends
His home a castle without guarding moat
Man of letters, he and inner soul wrote:
Poetry and songs devised to bring cheer
Whether home or at taverns drinking beer
His oath, vowing to treat one and all fair
A gentle man, yet cross him none would dare.

Had you known him, his honor so true,
Fairly he would take the measure of you,
If found worthy, happily shake your hand,
Let you hunt on his grandfather's wild lands:
Be a trusty friend, should you ask for more
From his table, his wines so freely pour
Full of vigor, to needy he gave
One others shed tears visiting his grave.

    Miracula

And life is an hour's sun
    Upon a lonely island peak
    Whose mighty base leviathan
    Scarce roundeth in a week.

So far away the secrets lie
Within ourselves, so deep they go
    In catacombs of memory,
    Ten thousand years below.

Yet every tiny flower and shell,
And every flash of human thought,
Are worlds as wide as Heaven and Hell,
    As wonderfully wrought.

And life is an hour's sun
    Upon a lonely island peak
    Whose mighty base leviathan
    Scarce roundeth in a week.

    It Is Truly Time To

Time to bury the past, move on
    sing again in different tone;
    climb another mystery hill*
soothe sooner our love aching bone.

Time to dance a jig, fancy-feet
    with dawns we gloriously meet;
no longer hold sorrows that kill*
allow true love and life to greet.

Time to romance and wed our bliss
    savor forever our first kiss;
fly into skies that hearts now heal*
embrace love, destined not to miss.

Time to stop heartache, truly live
    carry joy in our souls, forgive;
dream more and treasure sweeter thrills*
bear bountiful crops, just to give.

    Climb another mystery hill
    no longer hold sorrows that kill;
fly into skies that hearts now heal
dream more and treasure sweeter thrills.

Such Majesty There, Where Nature's Beauty Abounds

There it was deepest beauty all the way around
Whispering winds echoing most colorful sounds
Like a vision from a very passionate dream
Earth, sky unified into giant flowing stream
I lone interloper into majestic views
Wanderer drinking in, birds, trees, overhead blues
A pilgrim self-sent on my first real Nature quest
An awestruck fan, praying to be its welcomed guest.

Old leaves crunching loud under my invading feet
Pondering, is this any great way to first meet
Speaking soft to critters, as they scurried away
Assuring forest, destruction is not my way
Following along winding ancient woodland trail
Heart, mind and soul under beaming Nature cast spell
Around a narrow bend, climbing down small stream bank
Stopping, kneeling, drinking and giving God my thanks.

Stepping across stones, over waters crystal clear
Thinking if this would be destroyed, my new deep fear
Over to yonder hill, small saplings at its base
Magic colors sing, behold such infinite grace
Suddenly a rush, as swiftly away raced deer
All three knowing the truth, do not let man too near
Watching as they flew and jumped over fallen log
Each springing up and over like a leaping frog.

With such majesty abounding, soul wanted more
Grateful mind promising, to come back to explore
Bring along my best camera to pictures take
Save all to a pretty Nature scrapbook then make
With purest joy, I turned to trek my way back home
Adventurer, seeking under Nature's green dome
Finally arriving at my car at sunset
Explorer thinking this is as good as it gets.

There it was, deepest beauty all the way around
Whispering winds echoing most colorful sounds
Like a vision from a very passionate dream
Earth, sky unified into giant flowing stream
I lone interloper into majestic views
Wanderer drinking in, birds, trees, overhead blues
A pilgrim self-sent on my first real Nature quest
An awestruck fan, praying to be its welcomed guest.

Just giving credit were it is due..-Tyr

Thanks to my very good friend, our own Abouttime
I was inspired to write Pete this little slam rhyme
I slammed it out quick and think it is not half bad
Although its subject and his arrogance are very sad.......

If Sesquipedalian Loquaciousness Is Your Bag

If sesquipedalian loquaciousness is your bag
You live to critique and harangue
Your ink stains falsity and in rainbow blues
You play as if wearing diamond studded shoes
Know some may see your arrogance and in disgust
Swear to never even a moment ever you trust
So peddle your lies and sickness to the blind
As decent folks see well and know your kind.

If sesquipedalian loquaciousness is your way
You love to complicate all you live to say
Your thoughts are how is it best to present lies
Complicate even basics ingredients in mom's apple pies
Know we are not all peasants, stupid and blind
Your grievously contrived errors we most oft find
So spread your manure on other vacated fields
We are not the fools you thought, we never yield.

On Life, Love, Death, Fate, Time And Other Pondering

Of beginnings and endings, chaos in between,
    life is but illusions, imaginary scenes;
a broad fantasy or else a time driven call
that deep desperate cry before death's final fall
as if, dark nothings rose up to parade around
then in mere blink, are buried six feet underground.

Within Time's dark hours that swiftly, fleetingly fly,
    are whispering winds blowing, tho' we know not why;
either in gales or gentle and soothing breeze
mankind finds his way but never with golden ease
as if, invisible power, grasps man's inner soul
some may call that Fate and it takes its heavy toll.

In between low gasps, some black, others filled with light,
    each a brief flinging of thoughts, be it day or night;
precious few may gift that which oft is called true love
for this world spins with that steady of, push and shove
as if, unseen forces birth pain and flowing blood
for man rose from the dirt and now loves his red mud.

Of beginnings and endings, chaos in between,
    life is but illusions, imaginary scenes;
a broad fantasy or else a time driven call
that deep desperate cry before death's final fall
as if, dark nothings rose up to parade around
then in mere blink, are buried six feet underground.

O'Lord, Can Enduring Such Sorrows Ever Make Me Whole

I walked alone, when the lonely had its hold on me
I was as good as gone, yet this shattered heart was not free
I knew she would never phone, and her silence let me be
I found the road to nothingness, sad skies and empty seas.

O'Lord, will this darkness ever leave this broken soul?
O'Lord, can enduring such sorrows ever make me whole?

I felt the pains, that nightfall tore into my broken heart
I walked in the cold rains, tho' my world was ripped apart
I sought what little remains, and with its hope dawn's new chart
I washed away the stains, crying tears for another start.

O'Lord, will this darkness ever leave this broken soul?
O'Lord, can enduring such sorrows ever make me whole?

I embraced the agonizing sad, its lost soul crushing blues
I wept for the past bad, its mysteries without any clues
I forced away the mad, those curses that say, pay your dues
I prayed with my all, for her swift return or just any news.

O'Lord, will this darkness ever leave this broken soul?
O'Lord, can enduring such sorrows ever make me whole?

Where My Heart Decided To Rest

Where my heart, decided to rest
such was happiness, not a test
    paradise, not a lonely place
    exquisite beauty of your face.

Where this soul, started to find love
was not this sad world's push and shove
    within Heaven's glistening lights
was found peace and calm of our nights.

Where this spirit, steps up to dance
can only be in your romance
within sweetness of your soft kiss
I pray, never your touch, to miss.

Where our all, gave unified joy
was true love of a girl and boy
embracing of life and its gifts
    each tender moment that uplifts.

I decided to write this morn to try to reverse that spell of the blues.
And reaching within, this flowed out as smoothly as silk...
even hit the hundred word mark with no edits made...

Should Fate, Ever This Dark World Defy And Splinter

He walked through hidden subterranean tombs
crying out his veneration for those long dead
they from love, born of our mother's bountiful wombs
they that ate her Love, her kind Heart, her daily bread.
In cold and heartless deep sea of relentless black
devoid of pity begging for mercy's relief
its dank lonely air, its merciless, well worn track
bearing witness of man's loss and sorrowful grief.

Yes there, where faith's promise yet holds its solemn reign
where Light shuns, awaiting longed for welcomed advance
tho' man in his arrogance too oft tries to feign
rule over life, mastery of love's true romance.

Should fate, ever this dark world defy and splinter.
Those long forgotten tombs its light yet shall enter.

Hold this sad old poet not to these words thus read
for his life was once condemned to deep darkest pits
far, far better, to see and love deeper instead
rather than walk blindly raging from insane fits.
I write, profess having no great and saving key
rather a newfound heart born from past lived travails
nor have I, greater love or deep wisdom in me
tho' I have survived world's evil, its many hells.

With Hope, dreams, its mercy gifted by divine hands
as manna from Heaven fell, Love that saw great need
for once lost in darkness, one can not rise to stand
unless Light and Love heal soulful wounds that so bleed.

Should fate, ever this dark world defy and splinter.
Those long forgotten tombs its light yet shall enter.

How Things Change When You Are Old

When you are old, have seen your dreams crumble,
You walk slow, often talk in a mumble,
Your eyes once so bright, are now dull and dim
    Fat cries out, you are not young, fit and trim;

Once had quick wit, now you forget to eat
Youthful courage gone, you admit defeat,
Too much time alone and you ponder this
    Why dawn's sweetest awakenings you now miss;

Sun starts to set, you trudge towards your bed
You ask if pain, is in your heart or head,
Hoot owl calls, you tell it to shut hell up
    You'd make coffee, if you could find a cup;

Tomorrow's hope is just another day
Visit the park if you could find which way,
You find pretty gals, do not stir your heart
You think great fun, is a day at Walmart!

A Dedication To He That This Old Poet Truly Admires

Hardened was his sad heart when a mere lad-
Never a kind word, all seemed very bad-
Born a true and strong athlete to behold
Into slavery and dark he was sold,
Emerged an honest man of mighty girth
A living Samson, a man of true worth.
As gentle friend one could truly thank God
Woe to those that felt his wrath or his rod!

Such great prowess one should never deny.
Always willing to give others fair try.

    Stone-hard product of American shores
With hand axe, a slayer of savage boars
A majestic hunter of no small fame
Savage man or beast he could and did tame,
A hero returning from the great War
Proof as was seen, his many battle scars.
Never had he ever failed to show might
victor in every hand to hand fight!

Such great prowess one should never deny.
Always willing to give others fair try.

Never one to fear world's darkest powers-
A hard worker, no lover of idle hours-
Racing to do that which others so fear
Holding mother and siblings very dear,
Lover of horses, cats and faithful dogs
A Paul Bunyan one stroke, splitting huge logs.
Rock steady and never once defeated
punishing those who had his friends cheated!

Such great prowess one should never deny.
Always willing to give others fair try.

Rewarded to live to a ripe old age-
Some called hero, others a wise old sage-
Myself, I just loved him as my best friend
True chap that is faithful until the end,
Bright red roses adorn his earthen bed
none daring to walk paths he had once tread.
His life and memory are treasured gold
kind of brave man, I long to be when old!

Such great prowess one should never deny.
Always willing to give others fair try.

I was tempted but then I thought may be best to leave as was felt
    and written the first go....
Added the word - "Old" - , to the Title, as seemed fitting since that describes the current state of the author.

He That Sees Such Oceans Of Boldly Waving Gold

He that with deep knowledge looks at a field of wheat
says, there Mother Nature builds for us to soon eat
man derives from her now plowed rich virgin soil
many luscious crops by his hard sweat and toil,
and such is not manna falling from open skies
nor is it freely gifted bread, sweet cakes and pies.

For Mother Nature, her beauty had to be tamed
her majesty and huge body had to be maimed
massive trees and brush were cut down and then burned
man honed steel blade rich virgin soil overturned,
and with purpose created huge seeded fields
to garner food harvests in ever greater yields.

He that sees such oceans of boldly waving gold
thinks this serves us truly well and soon will be sold
the money gained, will my family clothe and feed,
removing us from great hardship and wanton need
that moment, not care about Nature spilled blood
for he has fled poverty and hut built from mud.

He that with deep knowledge looks at a field of wheat
says, there Mother Nature builds for us to soon eat
man derives from her now plowed rich virgin soil
so many luscious crops by his hard sweat and toil,
and such is not manna falling from open skies
nor is it freely gifted bread, sweet cakes and pies.

Lord Of Long Shadows, Master Poe And I

Lord of long shadows had invaded hearth and home
sauntered in amidst cracklings of hot fireplace flames
Saying, " I like this sad place, may I freely roam
you know friend, I do dearly love playing sad games".
And with sardonic laugh, flew around and about
breaking mirrors so no image was reflected
Shall we see just how many pains I can churn out
shouting, "let me remind, sad woes you've neglected".

I questioned, asking if it would once be so kind,
for I the master of hearth and home had some rights
Shadow said, "ask away poor soul, I do not mind
I oft get deeply bored on these cold wintry nights".
Searching for something to give me some kind of sway
for these darklings, can bring epic pains and sorrows
I queried, "did you plague Master Poe night and day
seek to destroy his joys and all his tomorrows"?

That sardonic smile, and hideous laugh roared back
I see you too like to play clever little games
Somehow you figured out my past and are on track
shall you be seeking any more great poet's names?
Shall that triumph of my destroying power do
to strike proper fear into your old, aching heart
I shall advise, lets recall your woes, set your dues
tis best we gaze at your love's losses for a start.

Then with twinkling flame-red eyes, power to thus cast
shadow snapped fingers, removed its covering mask
This beauty was your first and you then swore your last
need I give angelic name, dare you even ask?
Through tears I saw my love, so many years passed on
those dear blue eyes and her smile that I now so miss
Then shadow showed her fiery death and bleached white bones
asking, "would I want to touch, her decay now kiss"?

I could not reply, the pain ached in me so hard
my sobs echoed and gave shadow such immense glee
Shadow cursed and cried, "you dare call yourself bard
when you can not bear these sorrows, I gift to thee".
Would your Master Poe not in deep dismay thus frown
at this pitiful wretch, just one lost love has wrought
You act as he, seeing Annabel's bloody gown
knowing her sad death, has so much of his fame bought.

I then saw envy in shadow's arrogant mind
how it despised all poets and Poe's fantastic fame
A great weakness, for such conceit makes one stone-blind
seeding a crack in its misery birthing game.
My thoughts interrupted, shadow had more to show
it cast forth delicious picnic by a blue lake
With it, image of my love Helen laughing so
yet again this was more than this lost-soul could take

Now begging, please, please, show me such losses no more
I recall each true love that in my youth I failed
Shadow have mercy, this one act I now implore
save me from what, past death scene daggers have impaled
With pride out of sight, it stooped to look down and close
as it gazed I said, "your art and you are adored."
Such was my chance to deliver truth's overdose
you destroyed Master Poe yet more you have implored.

Its rapt attention, flattering words soon did gain
with guile I asked, why this world, your fame now denies
For my poet's heart found words to shower like rain
with, why does wicked world, ignore your righteous cries.
Sent you to torment poets like Master Poe and I
as a ghastly shadow, form devoid, with no name
Its hideous face changed, tears formed as if to cry
as it saw it too was victim, we were the same.

I hid my smile, seeing rage and bitterness set in
for shadow now felt wrongly used and thus betrayed
Shadow felt my words, their true weight, knew just then
his game lost, how by this loser he had been played.
With a curt and dismissive bow he said goodbye
proclaiming how my kind he'd visit no more
Yet would greet me after my mortal coil shall die
and with sardonic smile said, " to even the score."

Entering my room on beam of glittering white
from within Raven's painting out came my friend Poe
Saying, "I told you we would have such great delight,
that was same wicked shadow that dealt my death blow".
I replied, "thank you grandfather of my dear muse,
shall we drink or out that window at the moon shout
For your guile, insightful words I wisely did use
shadow now knows its pride, has been kicked about".

Master Poe smiled and laughed saying, "what a grand treat
your wicked shadow once won its game against me
Now dearest friend, with our words we gave its defeat
and we have for now set your poetic soul free."
With this fine advice, Master Poe bid me goodbye
write my friend, even dark poetry if need be
For heaven hears poetic words artists pen-cry
pray sweet blessings upon those believing as we.

Know This, Her Eyes Weep Now

Know: she and I buried dead loves in old tin cans
our hands stained with blood held far too long
With heated rush, we walked into patient storms
there was fast, loud music but never a soft song

This: my heart still loves the falling Autumn leaves
our hot romantic nights gave us all, back then
She made promises with beautiful sexy smiles
their deaths, are the pains of which I now so grieve

Her: luscious lips, lit fires that yet burn with ache
our happy time was glorious, yet fated to die
With sorrows deep born, comes pains that gash
the tender flesh of a lamb pleading at the stake

Eyes: that cast poetry into this man's willing soul
her lies, soft feathers soothing a young man's nights
Time denies the eternal bliss passion oft gifts
as if Fate commands, now drink from this empty bowl

Weep: tears for the fondest of life's sweet pleasures
memories of a time that fantasy could not match
Does she remember, I bowed to her as a defeated fool
while she sauntered away, seeking greater pleasures

Now: she lives in an old castle that walls crumble
wearing gowns that fallen goddesses have thrown away
My spirit demands I not go look to see for myself
for fear that eyes and lips beckon and I again stumble

Know this, her eyes weep now, that it is too late
Know this, her eyes weep now, that it is too late
