Despair and Tears, As Silence Reigns

Sun burnt dark crystals sizzle this aching mind
where maple tree ooze their sticky flesh,
    as cold harsh silence reigns
Begging sky cries from sun and its scorching flames
as blinded ground wakes to scampering winds,
    their voices roaring into eternity
    as cold, harsh silence reigns
The flower meadows reach for gasping tones,
demanding Nature plunge about its glories
and in their frenzy, miss dancing clouds above
    as cold, harsh silence reigns
The life that invades this body mine,
seeks control over sad singing heart
to smother love's bounty and allow Time to eat eternity,
    as cold, harsh silence reigns

    Robert J. Lindley, 7-06-2019
Free verse, ( A darkened look into Earth, Life and Eternity )

O' Pain, Let Mercy See Thy Face

Discontent that sets its own sails
    over waters shimmering deep
    stray-shot arrows, that heart impales
    within darken dreams life tells
O' pain, let mercy see thy face
    as sorrows replay youth's disgrace.

Paradise, where hides - joy of hope
    Is salvation within man's scope?

I that stomped grapes with my feet
grasp at shadows from falling leaf,
yet fearful of darkness I meet
ever mindful of souls in grief.
Make wine from grapes plucked by hand
pray aloud, as barefoot I stand.

Paradise, where hides - joy of hope
    Is salvation within man's scope?

From within mind's loss, blades of glass
    icy slivers into veins sink
dark and morose, the dying grass
seeds borne of gulps, Life's poison drink.
O' truth cut this heart to the quick
of these sorrows, I am too sick.

Paradise, where hides - joy of hope
    Is salvation within man's scope?

Note-- The free verse is a new poem, the rhyme is a very old one.
I wrote the free verse in reply and commentary on the time, sorrows and thinking that inspired the old one. My wife and our son both, like the new poem much more. While I , still favor the old poem a bit more!

Pen Wakes, Shakes And Casts Its Darkest Long Frown

When faithful pen, releases not its ink
heaven and stars refuse usual blinks
moon dims and lets out moaning mournful cries
poison arrows shoot across wailing skies
    Paper cringes in desperate despair,
around weeping edges begins to tear.

At such times, poet's heart fearing such dread
attacks with great zeal complaints in my head
wages war with a soul begging release
while my muse and I ask both to please cease
Pen wakes, shakes and casts its darkest long frown,
cries, "in this circus, you sir, are a clown"!

In this battle, where blood so freely flows
my muse wallows in pity, cries out loud
my power weakens, as mighty pen's grows
will heart this epic loss, thus be so proud
Paper gasping, at pleading so sincere
even I the poet, shed salty tears!

When faithful pen, releases not its ink
heaven and stars refuse usual blinks
moon dims and lets out moaning mournful cries
poison arrows shoot across wailing skies
    Paper cringes in desperate despair,
around weeping edges begins to tear.

Vague Memories Of Slow Fading Melodies

When broken dreams await hard hands of Fate
And willing dark, its powers concentrates
Life slows and diminishes as on cue
All has passed before, nothing is new.
In that wretched place, souls are sliced deep
By horrid nightmares, in disturbing sleep.

This poet's pen often dares to relate
In echoes as if crying for lost mate
With weeping words-tears and resounding moans
Through wide valleys of darker undertones.
In that aching place, epic pains accrue
such is human life, for nothing is new.

As splashed ink soaks onto famished page
One may see injustice, well up with rage
Oft heart's desires stir that miserable soul
To ask for pity's coin to pay the toll.
In that regretful place, black snags abound
Such is dessert to Fate's hungriest hounds.

Blessed Hope, Rays Of True Light, And Silent Prayer

An ancient man in darken and morbid cloud
no longer full of vigor and foolishly proud
Constant lashing winds, setting heart aghast
as rising black and purple waves cry of the past
Beseeching heavens for signs of relief
from darkness in the marrows, sorrows in the grief
Aching bones that magnify colder chills
fleet footed shadows dance around fresh bloody kills!

Accursed dreams, their vengeance harsh and real
each from darkest dark, into brightest sunlight spills
No clean water to wash away his curse
as both agony and misery becomes worse
Single ray of light breaks through each high noon
from weakened promise, salvation rain may come soon
For decades, that dear hope has stayed alive
within its fleeting happiness, his soul survives!

Death has danced forward and its blade sliced in deep
A young and truly innocent soul, fast asleep
Lo! Fate's wicked companion, may next my soul choose
In that dying moment, I my composure lose!
I had prepared, with courage born of true heart
With my faith seek, much sweeter realm for my restart
Death is abject darkness, its great destructive waves
Accepts only victory, denies Light that saves!

Written as the idea truly interested me but the sponsor does not
allow the titles to be from ones own poetry, thus neither version
can be submitted in the contest. As he "has since" removed the note
saying one could use ones own titles(which I did), and list the titles
but not the name thus per contest rules keeping the name of the poet
entering unknown. So here I present both the sonnet version-- done
because I o dearly and truly love sonnets -- and also the 20 titles version.
I myself, greatly prefer the one composed as a sonnet.....

Fourteen Titles, A Beautiful New Birth

In a sad blindness, one may yet find hope
Sweet romance is in truth a healing balm
What in Life, can we truly ever hold
True to Heart, an old poet's solemn vow
Drowned in passionate depths of our deep love
Come to me Love, so that tender heart swells
O' broken heart, tis now thy time to mend
In thy love-realm I would gladly live and die
Caressing Virgin soil, with soft caring hands
I beg to yet again kiss thy sweet precious lips
As cool winds grace soft emerging twilight
Where Nature's beauty and man's design meet
There Winter's lonely fallows deeply dream
Where Weeping Willows in silent peace grow

Time used was two hours 41 minutes.
Then I check and see he has removed the provision
allowing all titles could be from the poet entering.
Yet, I am pleased to have created both of these poems. -Tyr

Once I Stood Upon A High Mountain Top

I stood upon a mountain top,
    weeping boulders tumbling amiss
this sight held me, I could not stop
for loving sky I thought to kiss.

I stood in an emerald glen,
    as forest sights, creatures abound
    wonderment, a blessing to men
as does a lover's dear heart pounds.

I saw a stream its waters deep,
earth and sky calling out my name
in that divine gift we call sleep
its breath, cripples no longer lame.

I saw bright glow, heard a voice say,
    wait not life's sad limitations
paradise brings forth break of day
God set love, in all creations.

From Desolate Waves, Of A True Love's Death

As poet I cry out, nobody hears
yes, deep ingrained apathy I fear
for no other sad darkness so repels
as does indifference born from Hell.

From desolate waves, of spitting grey mists
arrives those terrors from misery's lists
fiery flames set to burn a weeping soul
into heartache abyss, death's tragic toll!

As poet I cry out, so few may see
majesty in even a long dead tree
or beauty in finely woven dark verse
born from a pure truth one did not rehearse.

From desolate waves, of a true love's death
comes grief that illuminates gasping breath
followed by epic dark, its coldest chills
knowing never again, comes love's sweet thrills.

Within Borders Of A Dark Midnight Realm

When dark stillness, brings its low, eerie hush
soft echoing whimpers, the night then parades
as clock is ticking, minutes seem to rush
midnight shadows dance in silent charades.

Beyond open window, breeze stirs moon's glow
    Nature chants into dreamlike melodies
Then comes the monster that so mighty grows
As it steps crush, even tallest oak trees.

Graveyard releases its new buried guests
and through the air fly wickedness on wings
hell's abyss, gifts sent at dark Lord's behest
as fear its immense powers of dark sings.

When dark stillness, spits its black-venom out.
Monsters, horrors and nightmares roam about.

In Youth, Beauty That Sets Eager Hearts To Flutter

Sea waved at scantily-clad sunning girls
breeze gifted cooler winds in soothing swirls.
Sand, bikini, colors the beach adorn
Great was blessed view on that July morn.

Laughter, joy and loud play, call for the day.
Clear blue sky defeats world's sad morbid grey.

Picnic and fun- as early summer treats
    innocent youth, deeper mysteries greets.
Beauty that sets eager hearts to flutter
as silent prayers, hopeful teen boys mutter.

Laughter, joy and loud play, call for the day.
Clear blue sky defeats world's sad morbid grey.

As racing sun, bright radiance gifted
thoughts of Love, romance many hearts lifted.
Cool waters waving, and hearts swift beating
arrows from Cupid's bow, Desire greeting.

Laughter, joy and loud play, call for the day.

    No Longer Sleepwalking Through Life

Sun rising, sent its ever enlightening rays
soft as a child's sweet kiss, sharp as a razor knife,
waking from decades of blinded and useless days
message of Light cried, "Stop your sleepwalking through life"
With newfound revelation, new spirit thus born
felt was earth shattering, as waves of power came
echoes then felled, mountains of saddest forlorn
replacing emptiness and sorrow with His name.

Sunset sent, were reddish gold rays of heart's content
along with blessings, greater joys in newfound peace
gone were dark, evil hours once so happily spent
replaced by the gift of imprisoned heart's release
As clear eyes saw, deep horrors once gladly embraced
new spirit danced into halls of Hope's reprieve
heart found sanctuary and old darkness replaced
by life, love and a new world that no longer grieved.

Midnight-moon, gave bright songs within radiant beams
delivering Light that spoke of love glowing hours
Nature spoke with splashes in crystal bubbling streams
and cool winds soft swaying its high reaching towers
Dreams arrive, repeating promise of life renewed
casting images that soothe, while offering truest grace
where once was blindness by evil so misconstrued
now in sleep's rest, was seen, her smiling peaceful face.

And rewards Mother Nature for her waiting
God of thunder sent away all 'afuming
As life on earth began its resuming.

Heart Swore An Oath, Never, Never Again

When the joy overcame the epic pain
Heart swore an oath - never, never again
Letting life and love's great loss break this heart
Torn asunder, lost and ripped apart
Where love only exists as in a dream
A tragedy, drinking from a dry stream.

To see her eyes that inspired our lives
She with heart's true beauty that yet survives
Hear her sweet voice say, "good morning my dear "
Wake to morning sun's golden rays of cheer
Alas! Such paradise has now been lost
To regain it, I would pay any costs!

When the joy overcame the epic pain
Heart swore an oath - never, never again.

Were I, Born To Tread Upon A Cold, Sadden Earth

Were I, born to tread upon a cold, sadden earth
Walk naked upon barren and dark dusty plains
Strive only for wealth-never for my true self worth
Would I ever have anything but futile gains?
Were I, to yield to Fate, its cursed flaming breast
Accept living in its shadowy subterfuge
Begging and pleading well that my dreams give me rest
Wallow in the sorrows of Hell's pouring deluge?
Were I, to live and be damn'd to such a Fate
Would my fallen soul be naught but a chained slave
In such blindness only my evil lusts then sate
Existing but in darkness, well within hell's gate?
Were I, to such state, a prisoner born to be
No more than a destined walking bag of bones
Unable to love Nature, its true beauty see
Sentenced to break my teeth eating world's black-stones?

Shall I, wake to live, love and sweet life truly find
Thereby deny the world's darkness its wicked hold
Learn to dance and in calmness let love so remind
There is remedy for world's lies I have been told?
Shall I, another path dare to so boldly take
Seeking peace and joy a man desperately needs
Begin to understand tis greed one must forsake
As one replants with divinely inspired seeds?
Shall I, each new morn rise to a beautiful day
Enter the world but deny its foul, wicked breath
Stop to kneel down and in all sincerity pray
For divine light and courage to face mortal death?
Shall I, live thus to in God's true blessings partake
Of the gifts and joys such a new life thereby gives
Walk anew, a spirit reborn - world's dark mold break
Live as free and happy as man was meant to live?

Were I, to such light given knowledge dare to bow
Dare I, kneel to this light, this great truth, this hope pray
Shall I, with judicious thought rise to do so now
Know I, tis the light that casts the darkness away!

Destruction, As Kali Walks Upon Earthen Grounds

Goddess of Destruction that teams with the Lord of Lusts
As wrathful winds bequeath savage ravaging gusts
Hades match, that has destroyed many a soul
World and darkness combine to take heavy tolls
Entity that perhaps beset Edgar Allan Poe
Kali takes no prisoners- death is achieved goal.
Dark that ever waits for exactly the right time
Its great allure 'tis but beauty's enticing trap
To destroy one lover's truth is truly a crime
Wherein passion's darkest of powers take no nap
As sadness turns into villainous mortal hate
Delivery is sent to wicked hands of fate!

She that offered slices of her false-set pies
Torn rainbows from yesterday's molten weeping skies
Sensual traps, dire for innocent likes of thee
Frosted darkness dancing with malevolent glee
There combing her thick-flowing, radiant red mane
Sexy vixen, addicted to others' deep pain.
With the dripping red, its splattered blood-cast spots
Watching this malevolent world, its seething rots
Madness and venom within her bulging red veins
Laughing at folly of mankind's sad earthen gains
From the invisible, her immense powers flow
In savage consuming fires- vengeance that glows!

In her night, no moon illuminates mother earth
No golden beauty encompasses mortal birth
Such darkness only vicious death therein awaits
Uncaring blacken hands of world's ravenous Fates
Alas! Mankind to her charms eagerly succumbs
Blinded by temptations, hungry for even crumbs.
Led by basic desires, poison in mortal blood
A vessel stranded, awaiting dark's raging floods
Damnation cruising this wicked world over
Hideousness disguised as fields of clover
Master veil, painted to cover destruction wrought
Betwixt birth and death weak mortal souls are thus caught!

Does Love Thrive Only In Its Soft Gasping Return

Does love thrive only in its soft gasping return
Nights that its flames reach heavenly sensual burns
Can love live in other realms sitting all alone
Wearing purple robes, sitting on its golden throne?

Can love ever be far more than we dare admit,
Far more powerful than the atoms we now split?

Shall we search much deeper and intensely explore
Trails leading into lands with magical new doors
Enter with true courage and traverse unafraid
And not with fear unsheathe our ever ready blade?

Can love ever be far more than we dare admit,
Far more powerful than the atoms we now split?

Will we such inner depths dare to gladly embrace?
That frightening unknown with bravado thus face?
