Troop J Troopers (Maine State Police) as well as other law enforcement and fire escorted Mr. Robert Coles, a survivor of Pearl Harbor, from Machias to Trenton. He is travelling to Pearl Harbor for the 75th anniversary and we were privileged to be a part of that journey.

Damn all the politics from CNN and OBUMMER.

They called the ATTACK on Pearl Harbor on Dec 7, 1941 as a Battle?
It wasn't a BATTLE. Somebody should ask that Survivor What that day Was.

Obama actually went to Japan, and Hiroshima to complete his APOLOGY tour.

The Japanese did not give the US a choice about Pearl Harbor, we gave the Japanese the choice between unconditional surrender and the Bomb Actually, we gave them a 2nd, and a 3rd, chance to surrender... fortunately for all of us, they surrendered after Nagasaki (although the Japanese War Council was divided as to whether to continue hostilities... the Emperor finally said "Enough")

@KarlMarx Have to disagree with you on this one. The Japanese had every chance to avoid war. We didn't force a war on them. Other way around. Now we can argue imperialism all day but the fact is Japan wanted the same thing we did ... to exploit Asia's resources. Unlike us, Japan was limited in resources and decided to take China's. For lack of a better phrase, we were in their way.

Attacking Pearl was stupid and Yamamoto was correct. Japan could not win. While Pearl Harbor was a tactical victory it was a strategic defeat. Despite that fool MacArthur.

But Japanese greed is what cost them. And arrogance. They still believe they are superior. And nowadays, they actually are. All the firepower in the world ain't worth crap if you won't use it.

One place I split with most liberals is the use of atomic bombs to end WWII. Whenever I hear all the bleeding hearts bitch about how "unnecessary" the A-bombs were, I tell them to do their damn homework and get back to me. Read the books.
I forget the name of the book, but it was written by authors who got access to the notes kept at meetings by the Japanese high command at their meetings in July and August. Most were so fanatical that they were ready to sacrifice the entire population. When the Emperor decided to surrender, there was even a plot to assassinate him.
Another book details the plans and preparations to defend the Japanese homeland. Some of it is frightening -- arming small children with bombs and sending them to the beaches, elderly people with knives and spears, young girls with homemade weapons. Along with thousands of mines on the beaches and people hiding in hidden outlets.
There is a book called "X-Day" that contains the declassified invasion plans for the main islands. American commanders had no idea of what they were about to face.
When you look at the conditions the Japanese people faced in the last two years of the war, they should be blaming their own leaders more than the Americans.

    (snipped for brevity)

According to many things I have read, you are quite correct. They were training, arming and convincing them to fight
    to the last person.

They would never have won, but the carnage would have been un-godly.

Those two A-bombs literally saved millions of lives, awful as the things were.
Hopefully..and praying...never again have to resort to them.

    Default A sad note

Pearl Harbor Survivor & USS Arizona Memorial Greeter Dies At 99

An Army veteran and survivor of the Pearl Harbor attacks on December 7, 1941 died on Monday, just days after the 75th observance of the attack.

Herb Weathermax, 99, was at the ceremony last week commemorating 75 years since the attack, but on Monday he passed away, National Park Service spokeswoman Rebecca Schwab told the Associated Press.
