When investigating a crime, the elements of crime are considered.
Among them is "motive".

Putin has been backing Assad in Syria.
So the rebels in Syria have motive that could be suspect; worth looking into.

I'm skeptical about the Ukraine angle, but wouldn't rule it out in a thorough investigation.

But something tells me the Chechens may also be worth a look. It's not an accusation. It's just the methodology of doing a thorough investigation, let the chips fall where they may.

You appear to be making the standard mistake (yes, a typically Left wing one) of relegating this terrorist atrocity to 'crime'. Labelling it as merely that. But it's more. Terrorist acts such as this are the actions of a 'person' lacking all humanity. Human beings commit crimes. Subhumans commit atrocities every bit as barbarous as the seventh century, non-evolved creed, which spawns them.

Yes, investigations must be conducted. But don't be surprised if, as a product of them, a 'reasoning' comes to light which is wholly alien to civilised, human thought. Investigators need to take that on board when working on this, to fully grasp what it is they're dealing with.
