This means anyone coming in from abroad will be asked about their political and religious preferences. Plus they will have to provide their phones and laptops for information scanning. Including their confidential and personal sites.

Let's assume that other countries respond in kind. If you want to travel to Europe, would you be willing to disclose your religious and political views. Would you be willing to allow government agents to read your facebook and business files and scan through your personal photos?

No representative of a foreign business is going to allow the U.S. government to access their trade secrets. Nor are they going to answer personal questions. They will take their trade elsewhere.

I haven't read the legal text of the change g #1.

But it is a near universal certitude that ANY change results in winners, and losers.

And reports are already filtering in that the U.S. has already begun to pay a steep price for reversing its long-standing policy of being welcoming to immigrants.

Our colleges & universities earned useful tuition from these international sources.

Our businesses (just ask Bill Gates) gained educated employees.

And the influx furthered our diversity, a strength.

Now:
due to Trump administration policy, that powerful cultural and economic infusion we used to get, right up until the Trump era
will now be going to Canada, Australia, and more welcoming points elsewhere; reaping the rewards Trump has surrendered.

It's to early to know whether this bell can be unrung. If not, it is a toll the U.S. will be paying for, potentially for perpetuity.
