Bouy's are Friends, Not Targets
A crew recently found a buoy that been shot and sunk near Block Island. They say the six-ton buoy had 20 bullet holes.
It was marking a location of a large rock just under the surface, where ferries along with other vessels transit.

I saw and heard of lots of damage to Aids to Navigation over the years.
Buoys, lanterns, daymarkers shot...
Lanterns and fog signals vandalized and destroyed. Daymarkers chopped up.
Solar panels and batteries stolen. (Those batteries are no good for domestic
application).
There are hefty fines for all of these acts, but it is hard to catch anyone.
I have lost my mind. If found, please give it a snack and return it?

I just have to shake my head at some of the stuff idiots do. And I've done some dumbass sh*t in my life. But nothing that endangered others (deployment doesn't count here). These morons don't realize they can run a boat full of people aground like that? Once that boat hits ground, as you know, it's keeling starboard or port and everyone on deck better have their Peter Pan pixie dust or the landing is going to be REAL hard. Then you got to worry about which direction the boat's going to spin and hope that concussion from the landing left you enough sense to get away from the props.
