FBI Allegedly Warned UK Authorities About Manchester Bomber

British security services allegedly received a warning about Manchester suicide bomber Salman Abedi in January, a security source told The Daily Mail on Sunday.

The FBI reportedly shared information with MI5 about Abedi’s links to terrorist groups in Libya, and that he belonged to an Islamic State cell in Manchester. He was put on a terror watch list by U.S. security services in 2016, according to The Mail.

“In early 2017 the FBI told MI5 that Abedi belonged to a North African terror gang based in Manchester, which was looking for a political target in this country,” the unnamed source told The Mail. “The information came from the interception of his communications by U.S. federal agents, who had been investigating Abedi since the middle of 2016, and from information unearthed in Libya, where his family was linked to terrorist groups.”

The tabloid claims British authorities looked into the terror cell but closed their investigation shortly after.

It's increasingly looking as though negligence from MI5 has played a major part in all this. Even counting in the above ... it seems MI5 were aware of Abedi for a substantial time. BBC News are currently making this their most major story on their BBC News TV broadcasts.

MI5 is to hold an inquiry into the way it dealt with warnings from the public that the Manchester suicide bomber, Salman Abedi, was a potential threat.

The security service, which was alerted to Abedi's extremist views three times prior to last Monday's attack, will examine how it dealt with the warnings.

Home Secretary Amber Rudd said it was right for MI5 to review its processes.
Because of the sensitivity of the material involved, we're told that MI5 will be investigating ITSELF to see what errors were made (.. make of that what you will ..).

It's not just the UK and MI5. This is an issue worldwide, folks walking on eggshells around the muslims for fear of backlash. And I have no doubt in my mind that people have died as a result.

Agreed. In fact, the 'eggshells' factor is central to the progress that Muslim terrorism can, and does, make. The more accepting societies are, the more they adopt a deference culture (or a 'denial' culture, in terms of denying the truth of what Islam is all about, and what it can lead its practitioners to do) .. the greater the success they have in establishing their ability to operate. And more, to radicalise ..

The leader of the group of '7/7' bombers, for example, was well respected in his community .. a teacher. He used his position, thus:

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/ukne...-to-Islam.html

The leader of the July 7 bombers tried to convert a schoolboy under his care to Islam and talked to him about the September 11 attacks, the inquest into the bombings has heard.

Mohammed Sidique Khan was working as a learning mentor in a primary school in Beeston, Leeds, when he took the pupil under his wing.

The inquest was told about the background of the bombers and how they became radicalised for the first time, starting with Sidique Khan. He was said to be well liked at Hillside Primary School by parents, staff and pupils and was described as “almost like a father” to those from broken homes.

“One pupil became quite close to him and Khan would take him around to his associates and try to interest him in the Muslim faith,” Hugo Keith QC, counsel for the inquest said.

Acting Det Insp Peter Sparks explained how the boy was taken to the Iqra bookshop in Beeston, which Sidique Khan and others used as somewhere to sell Islamic literature, use computers and talk about Islam.

“Khan had tried to persuade [the pupil] on numerous occasions to convert to Islam,” Mr Sparks said.

The child was as young as 11 or 12 when Sidique Khan told him “people will pay for what has been done to Pakistan” along with comments about September 11.

Gareth Paterson, representing some of the bereaved families, said Sidique Khan was mentoring children with behavioural problems.

“Children described as disaffected children — in a sense, vulnerable children,” he added. He was said to have no formal qualifications for the job but had been working with young people from July 1997.

On another occasion, Sidique Khan was asked if he could arrange a speaker for the school to talk about the Koran, but the man talked with such “fervour” that staff became concerned. His fellow bomber, Shehzad Tanweer, was also involved in taking the pupil to the bookshop, the inquest heard.

The other bombers – Jermaine Lindsay and Hasib Hussain, who both met Sidique Khan when still in their teens – showed signs of radicalism while still at school.

Lindsay was “trying to convert pupils with great enthusiasm and vigour” at school in Huddersfield and got into trouble for distributing leaflets supporting al-Qaeda and Osama bin Laden.
