Religion is entirely faith. There are no real "facts" about the time of Jesus. There are no photos, written documents or other items of historical value.
Christians accept what is known to be the Word of God. Muslims accept the Word of Allah. Buddhists accept the teaching of the Buddha. Agnostics believe none of the above.
I am a Christian because I accept the word of God to be divine. There is no correct or incorrect way to worship God.

I like your post, Gabby, although I would argue that we have lots of written documents from the time of Jesus - basically all four Gospels and the rest of the New Testament. All written by people that were there, and with better authenticity & provenance than other historical documents that no one argues about.

I also might say that some ways of worshiping God are better than other ways, but I will leave it at that.

I think this is an excellent summation. Religion is not meant to be a cold recitation of established fact. That is science. Religion is placing your faith and trust in the hands of a higher spiritual power. You don't pray to God hoping he will hear you. You pray because you know God will hear you.
It is like the faith and trust that a child has in his or her parents. Just because your life has never been put in danger doesn't mean you have to worry about whether your parents will protect you. It's something you count on.

Most of today's scientific 'marvels' would appear to be magic to more primitive peoples. Rejection of a God on 'supernatural' terms seems to me to be akin to this in nature, it seems to me. Fact is, our labelling comes out of a lack of comprehension and acceptance of truth.

I've waxed lyrical in the past, on this forum, about the Universe's existence. I regard the Universe's very existence as absolute proof of God. The Universe exists according to physical laws, without which it couldn't continue as it does. I ask: what determined what those laws were, and are ? Time, for example, is a law of our Universe. Set apart from it ... what, if anything, replaces it ?

I have only one answer. Whatever created our Universe must, just as an inventor of a machine is outside of his / her machine, must be outside of the limits it operates by (did the inventor of modern-day washing machines need to be periodically washed and spin-dried at high speed in order to even exist, and rely on being plugged into mains electricity, ditto ??). Therefore, what created our Universe has to be a God, or some sort of equivalent we have no concept of.

So, Gnostic. If you're tempted to deny the existence of God, you might as well also deny the existence of reality itself .. your own existence, and ours, and everything else !
