I Once Held Moon And Sky Hostage For You

Far better a lost love than none at all,
with epic pains serving well to remind-
Love and sweetness before sorrowful fall,
into deep, dark pits, broken and stone blind.
Curse so bad; unbreakable chains that bind...
    love's reprieve in a dim-lit shattered mind.

While your love and morning glow spellbound me,
I once held moon and sky hostage for you-
Carved our hearts and our names in that old tree,
lost in rivers of love, once were we two.
You once kissed me and swore to say I do,
swearing to not ever say, we are through.

Now that many decades have flown on by,
I still hold out hope we can reunite-
For you, I still hold up both moon and sky,
defeat nightmare's dark warriors each night.
Dawn's bright brings our loneliness back in sight...
with sorrows deep woven in our sad plight.
Do not weep for my agonizing pain...
Unto death, this faithful heart shall remain.

Do Not Sad Weep, For Long Lost Ships

    I know you too
    Your heart fast beats.
    Once we were new
    fate, life oft eats.

    Hold my hand now
    chase love with me.
    Yes, I know how
    to live, be free.

    Let nights gift more,
    let dawn's sun shine.
    Both hearts, one shore,
    on love we dine.

    Come dance with me,
    swirl the dance floor.
    Love is a sea,
    who wants much more?

    Touch my soul deep,
    kiss these soft lips.
    Do not sad weep,
    for long lost ships.

    See morn's bright dew,
    wake to my touch.
    Love holds we two,
    need you so much!

    Send love's deep kiss,
    wait day's great call.
    You I do miss,
    why did we fall?

    Bird needs its tree,
    sky needs its sun.
    When love was we,
    we had great fun!

I Saw Hurt Speak So Loud

I saw hurt speak so loud,
as you stood weak but proud.
Your sad eyes told me more,
red stains on your front door.

I sought to touch your soul,
stop the loss and its toll.
Win your heart, join to mine,
on sweet love we would dine.

Hope in each heart and breast,
we spoke, love did the rest.
From loss, look of ash gray,
we held hands, knelt to pray.

Spring came, we wed as two,
as love's gift was our due.
Day brought light and much more,
nights spent on safe new shore.

Life then gave joy to live,
we each sought true to give.
Now with our hearts in line,
love's depths, each day will shine.

Poet's Words, Inspired From Picture In A Book

There in ancient times, a high rocky ridge
    surrounded by enchanted forest green.
To cross over to it, a rock arch bridge
much as a great painted artistic scene.

From Nature had this true beauty been made
with only immense power it oft wields.
Time and erosion, its red color oft shades
far below, sunlit flowers in meadow fields.

Poet's words, inspired from picture in a book
and all the history stored in his head.
There he lay sleeping in a rocky nook
as if resting upon a feathered bed.

What more could one want to ink flying words
about sailing ships on restful blue seas?
Or the beauty of colorful, flying birds,
sweet as the golden honey of honey bees.

In his mind's eye the nook is left behind
he treks in the forest to scenes anew.
Dawn's morning showers gifted treasures to find
matters not if it will be only a few.

Finding the meadow, its flowers in full bloom
he sat with pen and paper in ready hand.
He fills page as if decorating a room
hearing Nature's music from its own band.

Task done, the book he slowly laid aside
reviewed his words as true, found all is well.
Content, away on sailing ship he rides
resting his poet's hand for a brief spell.

    End Of The Road
Why Did Wine And Music Thus Lose

Wine and music soothed our joined souls
    when ebb tides washed away.
We set fame and wealth as our goals
    found none in Frisco bay!

When quick passions our lost souls ate
    clear waters could not stay.
Nothing stopped darkest Hands of Fate
should we have thought to pray?

Where loving-sight lost its clear views
    good no longer danced.
We both fell, forgetting our dues
    gone was life we romanced!

Why did wine and music thus lose
to Fate we did not choose?

We Found Paradise, Its Valleys Wide And Soft Green

When your heart sang to this downtrodden and lost man
    singing birds stopped singing to hear that melody;
I was broken, walking through life without a plan
if sorrows were a joke, I was their parody.
Your kiss, healed aching pains, misery's deepest pits
before, living was raging hell, a sad lost cause,
blows falling, longer they came, harder their swift hits
life had been torment, day and night without a pause.

My darling, your gentle touch cast darkness away
dawn's sweet songs began to enter this renewed heart
each singing note, romantic blessing sent my way
we had love and life, beauty of each magic day.
Each moment a dance, a waltz that was heaven sent
    I joyous prisoner of my Amazon queen;
all of my mistakes, my soul did gladly repent
we found paradise, its valleys wide and soft green.

No bars needed, love cast its beloved spell
each night this appreciative heart sang anew,
you are the rarest pearl, I your protective shell
with you by my side, gifting bliss long overdue.
In dreams, we see our future, its wondrous treasures
dance floors of solid gold, you the belle of the ball
my fantasy queen giving love's joyous pleasures
of my life before you, I now have no recall.

    No Longer Sleepwalking Through Life

Sun rising, sent its ever enlightening rays
soft as a child's sweet kiss, sharp as a razor knife,
waking from decades of blinded and useless days
message of Light cried, "Stop your sleepwalking through life"
With newfound revelation, new spirit thus born
felt was earth shattering, as waves of power came
echoes then felled, mountains of saddest forelorn
replacing emptiness and sorrow with His name.

Sunset, sent were reddish gold rays of heart's content
along with blessings, greater joys in newfound peace
gone were dark, evil hours once so happily spent
replaced by the gift of imprisoned heart's release
As clear eyes saw, deep horrors once gladly embraced
new spirit danced into halls of Hope's reprieve
heart found sanctuary and old darkness replaced
by life, love and a new world that no longer grieved.

Midnight-moon, sent bright songs within radiant beams
delivering Light that spoke of love glowing hours
Nature spoke with splashes in crystal bubbling streams
and cool winds soft swaying its high reaching towers
Dreams arrive, repeating promise of life renewed
casting images that soothe, while offering truest grace
where once was blindness by evil so misconstrued
now in sleep's rest, was seen, her smiling peaceful face.

    What to Submit?

1 original, poem on the theme of .your login captcha.....and use the figures in order for the beginning of each line. If there is a number or three use the letter ---7=s, 8=e etc. The only exception is the letter x, which i'm making a wild card figure, in other words any letter, you choose. But the title must contain the x, as an example all title must be haiku abc or haiku wxx, haiku 123 which would become, ott, so what ever the captcha is must follow the title haiku, you need only put the date at the bottom of the poem,,,Oh and by the way, i'm relying on your honesty, to use the first captcha of your log in , Try and stay as original as possible to the true concept of the haiku, but i am flexible somewhat on borderline..This is my first contest for 5 years, I won't go in to reason why...Harry

Love is radiant flickering flames of a new lit candle
Offered from one sincere seeking heart to its treasured other
Very hard to hold, if its powers are too hard to handle

Epitaph Of My Old Friend, An Honorable Man

He wore not great riches nor riding cloak,
Yet stood tall and regal as mighty oak,
No haste of greedy sweat fell from his brow,
worldly wealth was to him no sacred cow:
His enemies found he knew not retreat
Yet he was a pleasant fellow to meet
He had an inner force, massive power
Stood against world, like a castle tower.

As mighty oak he withstood stormy winds
Found joy with his neighbors and dearest friends
His home a castle without guarding moat
Man of letters, he and inner soul wrote:
Poetry and songs devised to bring cheer
Whether home or at taverns drinking beer
His oath, vowing to treat one and all fair
A gentle man, yet cross him none would dare.

Had you known him and his honor so true,
Fairly he would take the measure of you,
If found worthy, happily shake your hand,
Let you hunt on his grandfather's wild lands:
Be a trusty friend, should you ask for more
From his table, his wines so freely pour
Full of vigor, to the needy he gave
One others shed tears visiting his grave.

    Nightshades, Moonshadows And Howling Wolf

Thirsty for the moon, its sacred beams and eternal pull
howling to speak to this dark world, without fear
Your echoes enter, soulful bones of the insightful red-man
birthing strong growing urges to return and run truly free,
Falling upon ancient trails, foraging for red meat
and in red-heart's deepest and widest abyss,
embrace mother earth, unified into one body.

    ~ ~ ~

Standing atop a high and lonesome mountain crag
winds caressing one of Nature's beautiful creatures.
Notes from calls that give night and moon a pause
in that silent and golden moment, man trembles.
For then knowledge comes, here sings true freedom
having no need for the dreams of man or worldly lusts
speaking to wolf pack below, in its sad but deep felt tones.

Robert ... I absolutely love these. The challenges are such a cool way of learning new forms of poetry.

How many 1st place have you received?

Hard to give an accurate count, since about a year back, in a rage , I deleted about 120 of my poems at my poetry site. Many of those were first and second place contest winners- thus they vanished from my stored contest page. I just checked those showing there and counted 34 first place, 31 second place and I did not bother with counting any of the third, fourth and fifth place winning numbers.
Truth is many contest sponsors there have their favorites they always award first place to, regardless of reading far better contest entries.
For my having never been in one of the strong-well established cliques there I seem to do amazingly well. (knock on wood)
Better to judge with there is the numbers, quality and depth of positive replies ones poems receive there--as well as the high standard of poetic work of the poets making those comments.
And by that measure I do fantastically well, IMHO..
I was hesitant to answer only because I did not want to seem to be bragging on myself my good friend-- but since it was you asking(A fine fellow poet) and friend, I felt compelled to give as best figures as I could find on my home poetry site. -Tyr

I totally understand the favorites aspect of that site. In my opinion, stating a fact is not bragging.

    Thank you friend..
I have always held that principle myself. Truth is not to be denied.
Yet oft truth may be so incredible that people think its a lie being told. I've down played so many things in my life
, simply to avoid being mistakenly called a liar.
And I do that because , once I am called a liar, I have no choice but respond to that insult, by showing the person making that mistake the grievous error of their way.--Tyr
