    Great ship!

I have to wonder, though, why Ford was chosen as the namesake... it wasn't his fault for the Nixon scandal, but he was no great shakes that I can think of?

I would have definitely voted for the Teddy Roosevelt.

It's my understanding they named it after Pres. Ford who served in WWII on the USS Monterey

The Monterery was a light aircraft carrier, and looked like this:

What would have been great to watch (in my opinion) would have been the POTUS arriving via Marine One and landing on her deck!

FOX carried the whole ceremony, it was fascinating. I must give credit, Trump gave a very good key note, explaining why it was named after Gerald Ford. Susan Ford gave a nice 'bringing her to life order,' which really was enough to bring a tear to the eye, though I know little to nothing about Navy traditions, it was that moving.

NightTrain. Wonder no more. The reason Ford was picked for this one is, because he was at the commissioning of the FIRST NIMITZ Class carrier, and gave the order to commission the ship.
As for the Teddy Roosevelt. CVN 71 is already a Nimitz Class Carrier, in service.
