Yeah, don't go cheap on the router... just upgraded mine a few months ago and there was a big difference in link strength and speed.

Cox cable is moving us to GigaBlast soon. I can't even imagine. I have 150Mbps download speeds now.
That's crazy fast.
Also, something almost every router has these days is dual-band for your wifi, 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz. If your router is close enough to where you're using it, you'll want to use the 5 GHz for much faster speeds.
The higher the frequency, the faster it is but the shorter the range so that might not always be an option - but it vastly increases your speed if you're able to use it. Most people just connect to their 2.4 and don't mess with it.

I started having trouble with Netflix and put in a new router. My old router was dual band but this one is much faster and better connection. Super easy to set up. Left my router name and pw the same and everything was back on line in minutes.
Use 2.4 for my home controls for the reach, 5.0 for gaming and movies.
Adding a Ringg doorbell/video cam this weekend.
“You know the world is going crazy when the best rapper is a white guy, the best golfer is a black guy, the tallest guy in the NBA is Chinese, the Swiss hold the America's Cup, France is accusing the U.S. of arrogance, Germany doesn't want to go to war, and the three most powerful men in America are named "Bush", "Dick", and "Colin."
