POTUS Trump Makes Decision on John Kelly’s Replacement as DHS Secretary
According to reports, President Trump is set to announce Kirstjen Nielsen as the next Department of Homeland Security Head. Nielsen has worked closely with White House chief of state John Kelly while the General lead DHS. Nielsen is presently principal deputy chief of staff to Kelly.
POLITICO reports:
Nielsen served as White House chief of staff John Kelly’s top aide during his time as DHS secretary and moved with him to the West Wing as his principal deputy chief of staff when he was appointed in July, leaving the Cabinet post vacant.
The White House didn’t immediately comment. Nielsen did not respond to a request for comment.
People familiar with the search cautioned that, as with everything in the Trump White House, nothing is final until it’s publicly announced.
Nielsen, 45, is a cybersecurity expert and an attorney with an extensive background in homeland security, including stints at the Transportation Security Administration and on the White House Homeland Security Council under President George W. Bush.
